  1. The discovery are also half the price second hand and twice the value. You get something that was reasonably well designed in 1980 rather than something badly designed in 1950. But if you need something to carry 2 tonne across rough terrain and you are prepared to give up your weekends defender all the way
  2. I am sure its better on a defender but a pick up with part time 4x4 ? . 8 tonne may work for you but what happens when someone cuts you up and cross the road and wipe out an inocent family. I have driven many landrovers approaching the legal limit and none felt great. A landcruiser will handle heavy towing much better than all those flimsey donuts they stick under the defender.
  3. The 7 series with a bucket on a trailer and full tank of fuelwill be pushing 4000kg too much for a defender let alone a little pick up
  4. You will also need a bunded fuel tank just to save a penny or two per litre.
  5. I thought fuelwood did a 3 phase machine that does 9 in I think 9 in is standard on the continent.
  6. Why should he not put his price up. When he buys cord wood tommorrow he will pay more and not see it back for nine months thats an extra operating cost. If he waits till June to put the price up will the public be falling over themselves to buy. No they will wait till they have 4 logs left on christmas eve then haggle.
  7. A transit load would be good 17 tonnes at a time good cant get an arctic in. You are nice and close will send Pm see if we can work something out.
  8. 6 metre of timber will make 360 bags
  9. If you fancy another in the mean time I think before 54 plate the road tax is just over £200 . Make sure the aircon pipes have been done as it cost £1400 to change and they are all going.
  10. Thanks I think with a fast tractor it would be do able
  11. I will be looking for hardwood for firewood and some softwood for kindlet through the summer. I have a timber crane on trailer with tractor but only 20mph so not to far from Andover. If the right job came along I would buy a mog or fastrac with 15 tonne trailer.
  12. Its a 1999 4.2 auto had it years cant see it being sold soon. Done about 70k miles I only do about 6k a year in it. The only vehicle I own not covered in wood chip and inch of mud in foot wells. Does about 24-26 on a run solo. In six years its cost me £500 in repairs.
  13. Had some good stuff from flowfit not keen on engines unless honda.
  14. The bell housing on that lombo should be a standard sae and will fit other engines ( may even fit my yanmars ) The engine should not be miles oversize
  15. Make sure the exhaust is not to long or heavy or it will snap the exhaust studs. I use battery spray grease on most automotive terminals as it gets in there better and does not catch fire like grease.
  16. The idea of a partner joining you is he brings in the money to equal the effort u have already put in.
  17. My Landcruiser does just uner 20mpg towing 3 tonne but get on hilly lanes less than 10 and I dread to think how much less. Its cheaper to go at right angles across the country sometimes.
  18. What hard wood is it ? could be Balsa you would get alot of wood for your money:biggrin:
  19. Businesses need profit If cord wood goes up 25% you need to add 7% to your price. Fuel has gone up Saws have gone up european machinery has gone through the roof thanks to the exchange rate. There are plenty of lemmings cutting up firewood for nothing Lets not follow them over that cliff. I have people around me selling firewood for less than I can buy cord.
  20. Not many you cant afford to go far at 14 mpg:biggrin:
  21. Sorry I am more of a frame work person rather than detail. Do you have something profitable you can draw the money from . Firewood is a bit tight on profit even worse if you have to repay finance especially in these times.
  22. You could buy the charcoal at tesco rebag it into hessian bags and call it fair trade ( you did pay yourself at least minimum wage ) completely unethical and you would have to put on a posh voice all day
  23. If I were a pesimist I would say its gone up 5% because it was not long ago when the country was apparently in better shape it was 15%. But lets face it labour conservative or liberal all skid marks.
