  1. You could sell them at a farmers market. Think of a huge price ie chicken at tesco £3.30 chicken at farmers market £7.95
  2. Still swanning about in my Landcruiser Amazon. Need to find a way of running it on redundant politicitans and bankers. Being sole trader only picking up 60% of the bill for the time being
  3. I had 8 yanmar 2 TNE engines . I sold a few Not sure whats left. They sold for £650 ea, would they be any good. I think they were 2cy water cooled 11hp at 3000 rpm . They were fitted to gensets so the engine should be able to run at 3600 rpm which should gain your extra hp. Diesel has better torque so you may not need 13hp. I am thinking of fitting one to my splitter but have not had time to find out about bell housings and couplings etc.
  4. For cutting firewood a 16" bar is good but what is the biggest sensible saw you would use. I like the idea of small bar big saw but with small bar it must be a bit unbalanced and you must be carrying the weight of the saw all day ?
  5. Depending on how well seasoned between 2- 300 T but if you buy by weight it will be a better deal. Question is will they get a weight ticket.
  6. I would say roughly a tonne when green and just over half a tonne when seasoned. If you paid £50 for a weighed tonne it would be like getting it half price. The transport would kill it to us but if you could strke a deal and get it cut there is still possibly two months of winter left. When you log it you may find its wet in the middle. I think it will be sold on volume unless the seller is desperate to shift.
  7. 750kg if you are looking for max payload make sure your mazda carries 1085kg and get the body built strong but light . We could gain more payload by fitting to later hilux and fitting lighter ram etc. We have leaf and coils on the back vehicle never looks overloaded. We only deliver logs and kindling, If you need to carry 2 tonnes of chip get a 110 and some warm clothes.
  8. Tip master quoted from £4000 everybody else was too far away. Boulter Tippers - for new build, frames, repair and servicing of all types of tipper body from £2000 the one below cost me £3000 with vat.
  9. If they measured the stack without allowing for air space could only be worth 7k
  10. I have been looking for a single phase 4m conveyor but they seem to start at 2 grand. I cut alot of planed timer to 6" for kindlet so would come in useful for that if you come across a cheap conveyor that does not suit you could you let me know.
  11. I think its got to a point unless you can buy in nice straight beech in 4"- 16" diameter you are on to a hiding to nothing. Profit is slim and now due to cost of cord high investment. With the amount of people getting back into logs if we have a mild winter in 2011 I see some tears coming
  12. Mine is a hakki pilki 2x rated to 12" but we found anything over 10" is easier with the vertical splitter. Major things rarely break its more minor adjustments and sharpening. The machine froze last winter and ripped the idle gear through th middle of the chassis took 14 hrs to repair other wise its belts bearings bushes roll pins all 20 minutes stuff but regular. My wish list for the next machine would be Under 10 k with vat 370mm + capacity 7 tonne splitter is enough if it gets stuck more effort to unjam 10t In feed conveyor and out feed essential Not bothered about belt drive at least cheap to replace Good spares back up log deck max 2 k ,without one you only have half a machine The only machine I can see fits the bill would be hakki 1x37
  13. The ebay may be a scam but not as big as the £150 the government charge for the official wcl . Now that is a scam. And your right if you produce the waste you dont need a licence but try explaining that to the idiot at the side of the road. If I change the oil on a customers genset I have produced the waste and its mine. But if they change the oil and I take the oil away that needs a wcl .
  14. If she was young and drop dead gorgeous I would have offered to rub some nice waxy cream in as well:001_tongue:
  15. Sometimes it takes one person to increase prices and the rest follow. Most of the cheap suppliers must be running out now. You could reduce the size of the load and tweek the price up. I have others business income so can afford to gamble as I dont rely solely on firewood. I try to charge a fair price and stick to it have sold all my logs for the last 4 years.
  16. My splitter is like an old friend the processor is something that sits in the corner broken and get swore at alot. or at least it feels that way. Cord wood is getting so large now u need a forklift and log deck to go with it.
  17. So now you break the news in the middle of a recession the file I have man and boy wants throwing away
  18. The above is what I have found with beech. But split it into logs in Oct and it will struggle to season once the temp drops below 14 deg c
  19. Thats the experience I had thought about cutting head off just to ease the pain. Its just too close to the brain. Normally you have a course of antibiotics to get rid then they do the tooth chippy bit. The first one I had went with antis by the time the dentist came back from holiday it had returned. Takes about three days for the anti to work. Good luck rich I know what you are going through if it gets bad at night a 3 mile walk in the frost used to help.
  20. Sounds like it could be an absese ( if thats how you spell it ) You will need to get it sorted. I have had 2 in my life I can honestly say a broken arm was less painfull. I used to pace the garden at 5 in the morning to raise my blood pressure to relieve the pain. the dentist refused to pull the tooth as it was too close to a nerve 6 months nhs waiting list or go private for £2000 . I nearly paid until I found a back street butcher for £140 . On the other hand it could just be a girly ulcer.
  21. To supply 2 cu metres of loose logs will shortly cost me more than £75 just in timber let alone cherry derv and machine wear. The cost of steel and machines has rocketed in the last two years. Derv must have gone up 30p a litre in 24 months.I tend to be at the top end of price in my area and things are slow in November but always shift most of it by feb. I currently charge £160 for 2cu metres. will need to be £195 next year. Kindling well worth doing.
  22. My plan for this year is to process into vented 1.4 cu metre bags season in the field. The bags have a tipping loop on the bottom about 4 weeks before delivery I hope to tip them into our bunded poly tunnel. The reason it is bunded so we can load 2 cu metres in 4 minutes with a bobcat. The reason for all this is I worked out years ago if you handle the wood more than once all the profit goes out the window.
  23. "sprat to catch a mackerel" Small bait to catch the bigger fish. Off set some of the cost of harvesting the pop by securing a long term deal on the ash. Find out what pop is really selling for then get some verbal reasurance that you can still harvest the ash and oak for years to come. With the cost of cord wood soaring you never know whos looking over your shoulder. Watch you dont struggle with the pop then loose the rest.
