  1. Taylors embroidery Andover Hants Between £5-£8 for a polo plus stitch at £3 if you have 6 done. Will stitch your stuff if you supply. Good people to deal with and do mail order.
  2. I have just reserved the last four Bfg Mt in the country.
  3. You could try being the man wot does kindling and logs, brikettes, firelighters, etc
  4. I made the mistake of using stihl bar oil standard stuff and then putting oregon bio in. What an incredible sticky jellified pita that was to get out of the saws and processor.
  5. Thanks for the replies I am of to holland and barret when I feel better. I think value natural yogut contains as much friendly bacterior as the yuppie pots but could be wrong. I had shingles a couple of years back and doc gave me a lecture on being 40 and not being able to work 14hrs a day 6 days a week. There always seems a reason, starting a business, bigger mortgage, new birth, recession and so it goes on. I know what I need to do its just getting the time to do it.
  6. Been rough for nine days now been on anti biotics for throat for 3. feel like **** stacks of work to do and doc signed me of not much good when you are self employed.
  7. Bit of snow you should do that in a week. Turnover vanity profit sanity
  8. Someone may have taken the card to ring it. I try to leave 8 cards pinned to a board they are £57 for 5000 . Do you get alot of calls that fail to turn into sales or is it just a bit quiet.
  9. I was offered a service contract for 500 generators with the local water board. what they were prepared to pay was absolutely appaulling just goes to show there is no fair trade policy in the uk. They had not increased rates of pay for contractors for over 8 years
  10. For local advertising you cant beat a polo shirt and fleece with you logo and business name. It may be worth getting a tipping transit or trailer and offering cu metre loads for £80-£95 . The barrow bags are a good idea but different to what people are used to. Just my thoughts down here every area is different. I am always dead during november as I dont advertise. I was delivering 8 double loads through aug and sep just on saturdays. I will do the same in January when everyone else has run out.
  11. You should find you only need to advertise for the first year or so unless you want to expand faster. I have not advertised last year or this as we cant keep up with regular customers and new ones created by word or mouth. Ihave always used free listings on the net and still get 2 or 3 new customers a week. Local free paper called oracle from newbury worked well at £27 for 3-4 week issue. Local news paper at £45 a week complete waste of time. Parish mags waste of time. Pin some cards up in village notice board and schools.
  12. If you do decide to get a new saw I would go a bit bigger than the 261. That wont be alot better than you have now. An ms 380 in good order may suit better.
  13. We have a sheppach ox 3 german built about 13 tonne auto return two speed. Adapted it to run on a 11hp honda. I find it fast
  14. I dont think message got through Under no circumstance whatsoever take paypal on a high value item. If i sell a large item on ebay I say cash on collection please. I cant refuse paypal as its against the ebay rules but I can refund it if they are not happy with collecting and paying cash I relist it. Dont take paypal in or out of fleabay unless its for £50 and you dont care if you loose it a huge proportion of people paying on ebay with paypal for large items are crooks.
  15. But if he is not the same as you a chipper is a big piece of equipment to loose to a complete stranger. Although I have never met you I have seen posts over a long enough period to be able to trust you. The person with the paypal acct you will never meet or be able to trace.
  16. Question is did he ask your customer what the quote was. Customer says £225 so he undercuts it by £25. Its a bit like old joe does a transit load of logs for £50so phone him and get him to drop of three loads if its such a bargain why ring us ?
  17. sorry about the spelling got a throat virus and my head is screwed.
  18. A rule I live by is never sell anything for more than a tenner unless you can afford to loose it on paypal. If he buys it with paypal he has 2 months to decide the clours wrong and claim a refund. He may even send you an empty envilope to sighn for. It will cost 5% of your sale and paypal will probably hang onto the money for 2-3 weeks anyway. Always get them to view and pay cash and take away no exceptions. Then they are sold as seen
  19. Finally managed to get in front of the orders and have 240 bags if anyone needs some. £1.45 a bag + vat
  20. This man has been there and done it and is absolutely right. The figures put out by machine makers and hire companies is laughable.
  21. Thats where I get my bags top quality and excellent people to deal with
  22. we tried that double handling kills the job. If you can get 80% through a processor then chain and split. I found making billetts really time consuming but chaining into 10" discs only slows the job by a third.
  23. I would say bricks are not a threat to the firewood trade. They dont compete with real logs . They complement and form a valuable side line like kindling. I would say give them a try then you will see for yourself what the demand is. If there is alot of arb talk members close together up north maybe join forces and get an arctic load in. Talk to verdo and Hot max both have factories nr Andover Hants. But I am sure they have factories up north. Both companies will deal direct to a trade outlet.
  24. A few pics First one I was thinking infeed conveyors the second is a stromab cross cut saw and third is the timber for kindling.
  25. I have got a couple of radial arm saws which are ideal I will try and get some pics. The efficency I am looking for I think will come from a 3metre powered conveyor because at the moment you have to lift a full 80 litre dustbin of off cuts above your head 30 times in an hour. I need to buy a cheap powered conveyor such as a miniveyor.
