  1. There has not been alot of cord about we struggled to get any in the summer. Could there be a bit of stockpiling going on ?
  2. We have had ours for about a year cost about £450 if it breaks tommorrow will buy another no brainer. When I looked at the dbs I noticed how close it is but which would anoy you more an electric hedge trimmer or a barking chain saw. In real life the electric saw sounds half the noise. I know someone who has the same saw works it hard until it cuts out on overheat then bangs the dust out and carries on. Fairly bullet proof but you do need the big stihl. The weight seems high as well but better balanced than the ms 260. To give you an idea of the power of the mse 220 they put the full size 3/8 chain with 20" bar as standard which I think is a bit long and would make it nose heavy. Had ours new with 16" bar. The best part of using it in the evenings is you can shut the door on the barn ( no fumes )
  3. We use the largest stihl electric for cutting cord for our processor especially at weekends to keep the noise down. With a 16" bar it makes mince meat of 10" stuff. I would say over powered for what you need makes our ms180 look like a toy more on par with our ms260 or larger. I would go for something with the little 3/8 picco chain cheap to buy and easy to sharpen.
  4. We have a 1997 bobcat 751. The man who serviced it said to use engine lube which we have done. we have never changed it but done the hyd filter every 200 hrs when a hose blows on a tool generally changes the oil for us. We have had problems with poor running on the engine when cold I think there is a brass pick up weight in the tank with gauze and it ices up when it touches any water in the tank.
  5. I have tried all week to achieve that nice stacked result seen in the pic which is truely a work of art. But no matter how I tip them out of my bobcat bucket they just dont fall like that. I have decided my customers are probably buying volume and btu's rather than my skills as an artist and stacker. I think stacking 500 cu a year could get time consuming and tediuos and yes customers are confused enough as it is. Whats wrong with a measured space full of loose logs ?
  6. I have seen them but you need the frame which is £200. They dont look like they can be stacked or the bags reused. I am interested in the stripped 1.4 cu bags coming in January with tipping loops on the bottom
  7. In some thermostats is a little giggle valve which lets the air through check this. On some engines there is a small hose about 6-8mm which allows air out if this is blocked with rust and chalk could be the problem. I am not familiar with the L200 but work on large diesels. If you have had a matrix replaced someone could have been topping up for some time and could have introduced alot of minerals I would get a 1 ltre pot of coolant cleaner from wurth ( excellent and the only one on the market that works like u would not believe )
  8. I have a large upright splitter which I think is great reliable and little maintenance overall only a third slower than most processors . at least 33% of a cord wood delivery wont go through a processor so u need a splitter. Our processor I have a love hate relationship with its now 9 years old and breaks down on at least a weekly basis. I guess what I am saying is get a good splitter first.
  9. Not sure on the patrol it could just be just a high idle switch operating a solinoid on the inj pump. On our Landcruiser it has a power heater which operates two halves of a grapefruit which heats the water. The speed increases so does the fuel consumption but the heat does not seem to increase I tend not to use it. You could get some one to push your switch while you look for a pump cutting in and out. I fit hot start heaters to big gensets so have a trade acct with hotstart. Good kit but works better if you have room for a bottle heater especially if you live in a chalky area.
  10. Sam I see your post looking for cordwood did you find any ?
  11. I have not seen another on ebay since but not been looking. You can buy one new for 2.5k but by the time u put it up and concrete floor your in for 5k. Large poly tunnels do come up on ebay
  12. Drop in if you are in the area. My wife is the kindling expert. I tried using her machine once but caught my fingers in the lid would not of hurt but she was sat on it shaking her head. Wives seem to work these machines better than us:thumbup: Not sure if we are closer than fuelwood
  13. I think you need to keep looking for a single phase kindlett much more versatile and does round as well as blocks of wood. Saves tying up a tractor especially when you only need a kw or so. And much less noise
  14. £20 - £30 sounds fair. I often have tree surgeons drop by with a transit trying to get £70 for a pile of twigs. Even a good heaped load on a transit without to much air will turn into a level load when cut up. £40 a tonne delivered in nice straight cord wood Knotty twisted arb arisings
  15. I bought this off ebay have mesh sides holds about 100 cu when piled 2m high. The pic was taken about 3 years ago before it was concreted and mesh sides put inside so it could be banked up to 9ft. With a bit more time will get some recent pics
  16. My preference is for the hilux yours for the ranger. I fell out with ford over a new transit many years ago and vowed never to return and I wont. My mate two doors down has a ranger double cab 55 plate and wont be buying another. I think he was unlucky and got a friday afternoon job like I did. Glad your happy with yours.
  17. Our remote is tyraped inside the front chassis since new.
  18. I was going to build a simple deck with a slope and a few of those rollers they use on boat trailers. I am hoping with a couple of long hookeroons we wont need too much in the way of hydraulics.
  19. They get the extra load by fitting a very flimsy tipper. The ranger does seem to suffer alot of faults especially gear selection when hot.

    4x4?

The td5 engine was in production longer than the 200 or 300 . Ours has now done 140k with no real problems just air mass meter. The 200 hundreds we had were noisey and gutless. The 300 used to blow head gaskets between 3&4 and eat water pumps for a past time. Td5 engines from 52 plate onwards very good as long as you dont let a beardy freak run it on veg oil chip fat or snot. Get someone who knows what they are doing repair it ( not a week end mechanic )
  21. sorry dave must have confused you with someone else. How much do u have left to sell.
  22. You did " dip your toe in the water " as you put it last winter
  23. I drove a mk 6 double cab hilux and was not impressed I thought maybe it was because I was trying to replace the landcruiser with it. I have a mk4 tipper and its great only has 700kg load cap but does our job a treat. There is a mk 6 tipper conversion on Boulter Tippers - for new build, frames, repair and servicing of all types of tipper body . Maybe try a mk 5 and get it converted that way you should keep some build quality and get the d4d engine with 40mpg rather than the 23 we get out of ours.
  24. Dave whats the quality like
  25. very busy aug -oct . dead in November I think people shop round. Just about run out but have some dry ash in cord . Difficult to know how much to do for next winter if there is lots about and get a mild winter will be harder to shift at the right money. I plan to use 1.4 cu metre vent bags with tipping loop on the bottom. Had a quote for 200 at £4.40 ea inc del a bit dear but could get a few seasons out of them. If anyone is interested in getting an order up for a 1000 see if we can get the price down.
