  1. dylan, thats a neat trailer you've built, please dont think im picking holes but the flat plate you have tri-angulated the top boom will add very little extra strength, some round tube would be stronger. im looking at building something similar as my swing lift is so limited in reach!!
  2. i welded an outrigger directly to the chassis on mine an just cut through the floor, ill add some pics. are thinking 1 tonne pick-up (hilux etc) ?? it wouldnt be strong enough just bolted to the floor i dont think
  3. it is indeed beautiful work, ive searched previous threads but cant find the answers... an oil that is best suited to these kind've things,,,,,, available from health food shops... somebody must be able to help... save me endless time searching !!!
  4. 'the dark ages' .......... i think that describes the current climate fairly well!! i read recently that france had dropped there version of 'vat' within the construction industry... to eventually increase consumer spending... i can see the sense in that, i look forward to other peoples views!!!
  5. should be strong enough i would think, ideally you need to be unload to the rear & also the near-side, make sure you have enough clearance as the bag comes down.... 900x900x900 bags go all sorts of funny shapes when full of logs!!!!!!!!
  6. near-side back corner i think is best, you will need hi-tensile bolts, look on the head of the bolt, you need a minimum of 8.8, go as near to a chassis rail or out-rigger as you can, you will also need to use large washers under the body floor- dont be shy... as wide as you can go!!!!!!
  7. it sounds cheap,, take into account, delivery, re-handling & delivering again; especially if your in an area that is selling m3 of firewood for £60-£70.... not worth doing if only everyone could follow gas/electric price increases!!!!!!!!!!
  8. power tools are a must.. dremel type kits, flap wheels on a drill, 'air file' type sanders... depends alot on personal preferance... lots of choice out there!!!!
  9. what sort of height/reach do you need?
  10. so oak at £45 per hoppus foot is fairly valuable then, im guessing at that price it is in lovely straight lengths, no shake/knots etc?? is that priced at road side??
  11. glad im not the only one who doesnt 'quite' understand it!!!!!
  12. first one has very little power... 2nd one is a 20 tonne hydraulic bottle jack which is operated by air,, the handle by the side of it operates directly to the hydraulics ( useful whilst you wait for the compressor to build up pressure again!!!!!!)
  13. nice bit of kit still doesnt alter physics thou, compressed air isnt as efficient as a hydraulic system!!!!!!!!!!
  14. those heavy air compressors weigh less than 40 kg.... not much to worry about in comparison to any vehicles gvw. a brake actuator uses air pressure of up to 150 psi pushing on a 5-9 inch diagragm..i may be wrong but id love to see how a small electronic motor will match that sort of pressure
  15. hydravane compressor produces enough cfm to make it possible.... i see no advantage thou.. an air run system would have to use an 'open' type system, noisy, uneconomical, moisture in air etc etc, hydraulic systems are most common because.... they work!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. take the lot out in one go......... two trolley jacks, some small ratchet straps & some patience...!!!!
  17. i would be sending an invoice...... i saw a documentry on the rspca some years ago, id love to be a few quid behind some of their 'directors'
  18. good to see you back on here tommy..... great to see some more of your work............. the first post stated..... mushrooms... however you like..!!!! but we need to see pics of work in progress so we can be sure that its your own work !!!!!!!!!!!
  19. i will agree with that!!!!!!!!!!
  20. lol!! is firewood your main income or are you busy with other stuff??
  21. well done mate, i like the 'curly' stem!! i dont know if you noticed but if you want to put in another one after your first then that is fine,, the more the merrier!, you then choose which one you would like to enter into the vote for the best 'shroom'!!!!!!!
  22. welcome to both arbtalk & the carving contest!! we will look forward to seeing some pics
  23. looks like a plating certificate in the pics, (n/s seat base) that would mean higher GVW than 3500kg!! lovely truck but i dont see it making that money!!!!
  24. use clear pipe, hand pump type thing is about £5 if you dont like the thought of syphoning, takes minutes!!!!!!!!!!
