  1. it does make it an expensive day out for a family
  2. hope the fella make a good recovery, will agree with others, ratchet straps are not for lifting.. you need strops, chains & shackles for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even with the right tool for the right job its still a great danger.
  3. 'stretching' planning regulations is the only way forwards... especially on green belt!!! agricultural to industrial wont happen easily & will cost lots. as others have said, get those cabins up before your time runs out, in the meantime look for somewhere without neibours!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. im surrey/sussex/ kent borders mate, im fairly be-wilderered by it!!! 2 years ago £25 per ton roadside was about the norm, last year rose to £30-35, could cope with that!!!!!!!!! i think greed has a fair part to play,, like gen steve said earlier, forests around hampshire are full of cord, same as here really!! i dont see how anyone can claim to make much out of buying in green cord at silly prices then sell it at £80-100 per m3 ........... or maybe im too honest with what i sell as 1m3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. i was charging £120 m3 last season, what im trying to put across is that i cant justify an increase of 30% in one hit, which is what the cord suppliers seem to trying!!!!!!!!
  6. i like that, .... the eyes??? are they stick on????????
  7. my market is pre-dominatly customers with good insulation & economical central-heating, open fire/ wood burner/ multi-fuel burner is time-consuming in comparison with central-heating, if the price increase of wood fuel exceeds that of gas & electric then all we will see is customers who want a fire at christmas & weekend's....if they have time!! im all for price increases in the industry but it needs to kept realistic, an increase of 30-35% of cordwood at road side is far from realistic!!!!!
  8. i think the biggest winners will be supermarkets suppyling extra thick jumpers!!!!!!!!!! ill agree with what phil says about the increase of wood burners......... ive delivered to 5 new customers this week that have had burners fitted in their conservatry's ????? hmmm, cant think of nothing more attractive than sitting in a glass room whilst the wind & rain is hammering down!!!!!!!!!! i can see firewood pricing itself out of the economic market
  9. has anybody any idea how coal prices are compared with this time last year?? its fine to suggest that you 'just up your log price'......... still need to remain competative thou:001_tt2:
  10. if we have a cold snap like last year there were guys begging for timber on here! ......... a big if, a mild winter would put things back into perspective, its not like we have reached another ice-age......yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. stupid prices considering the time of year!! gas with a 20% price hike is looking the more economic alternative
  12. how would you value a trunk like this Rob D? ive just looked at same size thing, i know how i see it for firewood but it's very straight with no shake, too good for burning!!!!!!!!!
  13. firewood grade oak..still green at £50 per tonne roadside...... ouch!!!!!!!!!!
  14. !!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. steve & treebloke are thinking on the right kind of lines!!!!!!!
  16. lol, im going to be brave an challenge wiki's info:blink: various models were available with either a diesel engine or petrol/tvo/gas wiki lists allis-chalmers as running a semi-diesel, i cant find any other info. if anyone knows anymore please let us know....
  17. not fitted any yet but looking into it atm!! what truck are you running?
  18. use a signwriter to cut you out the lettering, use as a template on some locally milled timber.... get the jigsaw out with some extra reach blades!!!!!!
  19. tvo grey fergie tractor was the most common for this set-up, wouldnt work for a diesel.. 1 uses spark ignition the other compression ignition
  20. a very well written post adam, one of the best ive read for a long time!! cheers
  21. lots of air moving around exposed grain to dry the timber, bar up stops the rain soaking into the wood..... i think!!
  22. the mast/tower would be for air intake, exhaust & im guessing radio receiver.... they must be r/controlled... what an awesome job!!!!!!
  23. i want one!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. ive glued 3/4" ply to the 'vunerable parts' on mine.. works well enough!!
  25. re the first pic.... how long does the stack go on for??
