  1. can you not brace the roller mounts?? make sure the liner through to the gun is clean, these also can wear causing feed problems, are you using 0.8 mm wire or 0.6 ? 0.6mm cannot be precision wound onto a reel, its very hit & miss feed problems are common with most small migs, the grooves in the feed rollers mis-aligned/ wrong way round, bad quality euro torch connectors, worn tips & torches, keeping the torch in a straight as poss line from the welder, the list is endless, ive used one & had no problems
  2. if you can go to spending up to £500 then a 200amp mig/mag on a 30 amp single phase will last you a lifetime, drop roughly to £400 for a 180 amp welder on a 13 amp plug, mig is really easy to learn compared with other methods, make sure the metal is clean & away you go, as a rough guide 180 amp welder will give a good weld on 3mm plate, up to 5mm if you 'v' the edges, arc is a cheaper way but harder to learn!
  3. as far as im aware a 'pole barn' is classed as a temporary structure & doesnt need permission.. any roof is better than no roof!!!!!!
  4. Tyre AUTO ROADSTONE RADIAL-AT NEO - 205/0 R16 110 S 8-PR: sale of tyres AUTO ROADSTONE on Pneus Online i use these through the winter, 8 ply rating so fine for commercials, the wear rate is quicker than hankooks commerial tyre but not by much!! my vito went everywhere in the snow last year, def worth the money! shop around thou, i paid about £60 per tyre inc vat
  5. you cant win them all, no point trying either!!! give it time, if your logs are good & people like the service you provide you will soon pick up some regulars!!
  6. Elevator conveyor | eBay im thinking about something like this for next season, will need some playing with to get right but i think built right a conveyor belt would be cracking!
  7. looking at the price of cord atm i think im going to look into buying in green split logs, if i can buy at £40-45 per m3 then the axe etc will be having a year off!!!!

    Mice!!

loads of fieldmice in our log pile... we have two grumpy feral cats that live in the wood pile which seem's to keep on top of them, althou we also have a sparrowhawk who sits in the tree's above making regular 'swoops' does make me wonder how many mice are in there!!!!!!
  9. couldnt see a 'cordwood' section!!! bending the rules never hurt anyone!!!!!!!
  10. i will bear the guildford wood in mind... still not 100% whether its worth the effort with the overall increased prices we.ve all seen over the last couple of years!!! good to hear it's working out with your new trailer etc
  11. hows it working out with the trailer nick, did you manage to sell all the the oak from guildford?
  12. Well that’s a self-defeating argument if ever there was one. seen any mod ones with standard wiring??... i havent!! 'argument' ??? a mere observation mate, a fair differance to an 'argumement' !!!! although i will ask... do you think standard electrics are good?? !!!
  13. i drove to inverness last week (work-related!) lots of beautiful scenery, & lots of fog!!! apoligies for a de-rail but have any of you guys spent any time at the ski resorts up that way?
  14. for driving through ponds or over ploughed fields all day, every day a defender is the answer, all you green oval fans seem to have tunnel vision!!!!!!! they are uncomfortable, the electrics are awful....as is the build quality.. seen any mod ones with standard wiring??... i havent!! what they gain in off road capability they give away in user-comfort/friendliness!!! i will agree off road they are great but as a road going 4wd.... plenty of better options!!!
  15. what area is it in woody?
  16. not an easy one to answer abbie...! most woods get 'harder' as they age, beech in particular is very hard once seasoned, oak in my opinion is a great timber for resisting rot, easy to work with but very heavy to move!! softwoods in general dont last long in outside carvings, drying time is also very variable, most say oak can take up to 1 year per inch thickness to 'dry' .... long time if you have a 2' diameter log!! try to be a little more direct, it is very hard to answer vague questions!! hope your course is going well
  17. if your just starting out i would look for a decent second hand stihl, 192 as said but the 017- ms170 or 018- ms180 will work fine, all depends what you need to do thou, im only at the beginning stage but i block things out with a bigger saw then use the carving saw for the detail work!
  18. rotators on a 360 are great... when new, very vunerable pipework on most, esp if you have a clumsy employee on it!! id go with the grapple all day long!!
  19. i like that!!!!!! what area are you from dave?
  20. 2 an a half years now since my last smoke, never looked back, giving up is easy.... if you want to give up!! i can stand with people smoking, drive whilst people are smoking, was asked to hold a lit cigarette for one of the girls whilst she ran to the office to answer the fone, 're-formed' smokers annoyed me when i smoked so i was determined to not become one!!!!! i do miss having a big fat cigar on xmas day thou!!!!!!
