  1. The fingerprint boys came round today, nice lads, & realists too, they gave me an insight into the amount of chainsaw theft going on, very much elevated in the last year in this area sums it up.
  2. I feel we are duty bound to report serious crime, & being stripped of your work tools falls into this. If we dont report it, the police cant get a picture of what is going on, or how to try & stem it. There are many other reasons, but if we are to fight crime one of the tools to use is making the law aware.
  3. I'm interested is the details of any theft vehicles, or suspect kit for sale.
  4. I reported my tool theft, mainly so some picture might be realized by the police, as there have been a few in area.
  5. Blimey, just got in from a hectic day, I can only say thank you to everyone, to try & answer all in one post, they got all my good saws, they left the a couple not worth having, & did not take a backpack blower or hand held one. I will go through the posts on here again & answer any poignant points in the next day or so, but to my utter shame have been whisked away by an apparition in flowing frocks to an indescribable demise at a local house of disrepute, or to cut it short I got a lift up the pub from my sister & we had a few drinks after a busy day!
  6. Fine post sir! To many threads get closed by one numpty, I would urge the removal of posts or temp banning of the perp rather than thread closure in situations like this.
  7. It's ok Nepia, I'm cool about it, it won't stop me from paying the bills, I just want them to come back so I can give them tea & biscuits, I'm a loving sort of bloke, & hate the thought of one of them 'putting their back out'. ( Felix & Spike will know what I mean by that)! Thanks for all the posts lads, I'm not going to get strung out by these thieves, that's twice I have been done in fifteen years, the first time it hurt, this time I have a very different way of thinking, I have other projects that demand my attention, & will use this to bounce myself in their direction. Take a positive from a negative.
  8. Maldon area mate, my next confession, no tool insurance! Who's a silly boy then......ME!
  9. Just don't drop your guard, I did:blushing:. I just welcome a return visit with open arms now they have prodded me with a thief stick! Thing is, I was awoken last night, but I think they were on the way out, & I had a listen but didn't use my eyes, I genuinely put it down to something unrelated, which it may well have been.
  10. Fair comment Chris, you work hard for what you have, & make your own choices, your not intruding on anyone...= nice bloke.
  11. 'My turn,it's my turn'! Used to say that a lot as a kid, well, I get to say it now, so a big thanks, & come again soon, 'I restocked the larder' for you! ( In case the perp is snooping in as they do). Basically they cleaned me out of my petrol driven kit, & as anyone who knows me can tell, that's a fair haul, they left a few bits of no interest to them, fussy lads. I let my guard down a bit, things going on in life blunted my resolve, ( My father is at the sunset of his life, I have a busted shoulder & await an operation, can't work till it's fixed & I get to pay for the opp, as NHS will take forever), so I have myself to throw into the blame equation. I'm not the first in Essex to get thumped recently, & they would have used google earth or the like to plot me out, & done plenty of eyes on prep work, that much I can say for certain. Don't bother feeling sorry for me lads, just step up your gadgets to alarm you of intrusion, & lock it all up. My security levels are normally quite good, but I have to admit I did slip recently. This was a theft from my lockup at home.
  12. Get one of those green full width window stickers with 'Bill & ben' on it...
  13. Good advice, as is the rest!
  14. Lovely collection Rich, the enfield is a diesel? I love the Norman trials, cracking machine!
  15. Lovely & fascinating work TWMarriott, thanks for showing those!
  16. You want it as dry as you can, otherwise they can loosen & creak in hot weather when the mc% drops, do you remember the famous painting, 'the haywain' by Constable, they would stop in shallow water to expand a creaking wheel, (& water the nag). In very sunny conditions I used to hang my bedding over the wheels facing south, to air the bedding & protect the wheels from prolonged exposure.
  17. Aspen is very nearly benzine free, that was the decision maker for me, I use aspen 2 & 4 in my machinery.
  18. Very fine video there August, I enjoyed that.
  19. Nooo! ......
  20. If this happens, dont stand there looking up for it's return with an open mouth in awe, the speed they come down at it could punch a hole in your calvin cliens on the way out!
  21. Good level headed post, I like your thought process.
  22. You might find it awkward to get to the main stem from a lift, but they are perfect for trimming the sides, (assuming you are conny bashing & no nests). Climbing is more efficient for the height reduction, but you need to know what your doing when knocking wood over which by nature is above you, this applies to any method, be it climbing or from a lift. It can go wrong very quickly, even with experience of cutting, but without the experience, & no rescue plan / climber in place, you would be chancing it.
  23. Likely to be leylandi or the like, in which case reducing them in height would be fine, but the sides should also be trimmed, pics will tell all.
  24. Here is the waggon.
  25. I built a Vardo some years ago, the wheels I had made for it used Iroco, & never gave me any problems, & that waggon got used every day for years, still going now, it weighed about a ton empty. Heres a nice watch on wheelright work. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNniwfbiXzc]Making a Wooden Carriage Wheel pt 1 - YouTube[/ame]
