  1. You should of asked for a refund as payment for the time spent doing the stuff for feeding the chipper . that should of all been done before you got to the course so you could concentrate on the chipper.. I must say the cost for these courses are just crazy amounts to find . even worse when they bring in the 3 year refresher rule to keep them valid. Eastwater
  2. Talking of squirrels I was up a tree a couple of days ago and this squirrel started coming up the branches it do not see me to start with as I was a good way up . it kept making its way up then it spotted me on the branch above it nearly fell off in with shock:scared1: eastwater
  3. O man thats quite some picture that will be a heafty insurance clame going in hope every one got away safe. Eastwater
  4. The Pantin is excellent I use them all the time in my SRT ropework on long pitches its a reall cool bit of kit well worth the 37 quid the vidoes are excellent . sometimes the rope can come out of the Pantin but a small price to pay very easy to re place the rope I rate them at 10 out of 10 Eastwater
  5. Hi Thanks for your replies now I see how it works in this industry . Eastwater:001_smile:
  6. Had a go at footlocking today It took a few mins to get usto it but after that found it works a treat It took me a few mins to get the rope up into the tree but got there in the end . I can see this is going to be great fun. the Merrells that I was wearing worked a treat keep the rope inplace nice but no ankle protection . I had a go on a standard prussic . Eastwater:001_smile:
  7. Hi All Out of interest does the Abroriculture industry have such things as Temporary work Agency's as to other industry's that supply Temp staff to company's for short term contracts . ? Thanks Eastwater:001_smile:
  8. Thanks for all your replies thats just great . This Lass!! has defiantly been slicing up Some trees I think I am running out soon . I will have to surch out new territory to get my teeth sunck into . Eastwater:001_smile:
  9. There sure is allot to learn ,some of the sections have 10 or 11 points on them . It took me weeks of going though it again and again I spent some time each morning and 1 hour each night on the schedual I decided to try and learn it like learning play lines for stage . It was a really slow process for me, I some weeks ago I thought I would never get it all in but as time when on I was able to remember more of it each day . boy I am happy its done . Can anyone tell me does the cert only last for 3 years ? Do you have to do another test to keep it valid ? or is it for life Thanks Eastwater:001_smile:
  10. Hi all I had the best day ever yesterday . I did my CS30 test yesterday and passed . I am so pleased I had been working my sox off every single day over the last few weeks to get the whole assessment schedule in to my memory . All the hard work paid off as I went went through the questions The cross cutting went well to . Really pleased now its done . now I have a new assessment schedule to learn . Eastwater:001_smile:
  11. Hi there I am into SRT myself its brilliant all the work is taken out but I have not tried it for tree climbing Not sure where you are based in the country? but if you are near somerset at some point Somerset I will happily show you the kit and how it all works You would need a Petzl Croll (chest Jammer) and chest harness. Petzl hand Jammer with handle and foot loop to go on it and Petzl stop descender. and an oval shape anyway loading mailon (sorry cannot spell ) The Harness I use for SRT is one that is just for SRT it sits low down for SRT the bottom mailion that goes into the chest croll jammer needs to sit quite low on your hips its difficult for me to explain in words . its best to see it in action . I am not sure how the tree motion would work with SRT as the ring you clip into comes out several inches from the base of the harness with a SRT harness it sits really tight and low down on your hips so when you stand up with the jammers on the rope you gain the distance upwards . Hope this helps . :001_smile: Eastwater
  12. HI Jake Go for it dont be put off by others , they will try as your new business is another tree gone for the company /self employed person down the road . Keep another type of work you can do as a back up plan as some weeks it will be quirt so it will keep you afloat, enjoying the job you love doing without the stress of braking the bank . Advertising on your truck is the best free advertising going . Make it distinct so it stands out and cannot be missed . Business cards , maybe a T shirt or sweat shirt with your add on . Everything you look at could be another opportunity for you and your services to get know about . Every day is another day of new oppunites waiting to be picked . If you enjoy what you do it will show in yourself and the jobs that you do for people. All the best Eastwater:001_smile:
  13. As far as I am aware this is correct. If you work as an employee and company deduct your tax and Nat the the company is obligated to give/lend you all the PPE you need to carry out your duties safely .Should you have an accident and not have the correct PPE because they have not given it to you then its the employer that would be found at fault .If however the employer had supplied the correct PPE and the employee chose not to ware it but the employer had taken all the reasonable steps to ensure the employee was in compliance and waring it then the company's would not be found at fault the employee would be held responsible for his / actions . If you are self employed then its your your job to supplie the PPE. but its the company's job to make sure that they are providing a safe work place by putting in the safety measures and drawing up the risk assessments . Should the self employed person be working on site they have to comply with the risk assessment that has been drawn up for the job they are carrying out IE the correct up to standard PPE for the task. This should be read and signed by the person carrying out the job. Should the self employed person not come with the correct kit to do the job then the employee can do 2 things either supple the kit or tell the person home to come back with the correct kit for the task. It may be different to this but this is how I understand it to work in the workplace . Eastwater:001_smile:
  14. Hi I love the heat . The rain I dislike .theres nothing worse then getting sopping wet . Some tips to keep you cool at work A spray bottle filled up with water works a treat A wicking T shirt, The regular cotton ones just stick to your back when they are wet . A good sunscreen for those arms nothing worse then getting all red and sunburned . Put ice packs in your lunch box to keep your goodies cool this works well with hydration packs a cold drink works a treat better a cold drink gone hot in the midday heat . Eastwater. :001_smile:
  15. I do well with very early mornings but cannot burn the candle both ends as I have got older I deffinatly need more sleep . Eastwater:001_smile:

    Scuba anyone

Diving is one of my passions too. I am mainly into fresh water cave diving in the UK. I have not been abroad to dive but one day I hope to very much as would love to dive in warm clear water and see all the colors and fish . The best thing about diving is the feeling of being weightless and the feeling of freedom in the water after humping all your kit to get to the water then it all becomes worth it when you get in . Eastwater:001_smile:
  17. I must say it does look rather sad ,poor tree . Its nice when you have worked on a tree and left it looking like it has been cared for not just hacked at and you can leave the site knowing that who ever looks at it also can see a job has been nicely done . Eastwater
  18. Your dead right If you have to pay for all your own training and equipment you will treat it with respect and look after it well you will work doubly hard with your training as its you that has to pay for it . Eastwater:001_smile:
  19. I totally agree it would be very silly for a person to turn up to do a job and not be able to do it through lack of skills exp and pre planning . Any job that a person or company goes to do requires a pre assessment of work to be carried out as to weather you could carry out the task required or not .it would be very bad for a persons business if they could not perform the task they have been paid to perform and then mess it all up . I bet it goes on all the time . Eastwater
  20. That is fair a chunk but I suppose if you look at it per month its not so bad depending how much work your getting if it was your part time job then it could work out expensive. .From reading the posts it seems that the going rate an employee starts from 7 Ph up to around 10Ph if you work for someone/ company or if you work for yourself then it seems you can get anything from 10 to 25 Ph with all your own kit transport certs and insurance From reading posts on here it seems that employment is hard to come by these days and you have to have loads of exp and certs even to get a low paid position so it makes start to think which route to go down long term . Eastwater:001_smile:
  21. Out of interest whats the arverage cost of the insurance per year that a self employed person with no other employees would have with basic certs for ground and climbing work ? Eastwater
  22. Love the rainbow nice one . we had some heavy big drops to on the A6 going towards Inverness it gave the truck a good wash . Eastwater

  24. Hi Drivelink I love your website . I do have a few questions that you might be able to answer. I will Pm you . Really looking forward to gaining my CS30 as then so many more oppotunitys will be open to me . Many thanks Eastwater.
  25. Hi Drive link I love your website its really helpfull. I am getting close to my assessment now so working really hard . I am finding the chain ID charts very difficult to master . but the rest is comming well. Writing the whole assessment schedual out every day and using visual imagery with it helps . walking over the points in my mind as I write them really helps gradually I am able to remember more from memory each time I write it .
