  1. Let us know your beloved's reaction when you present them with a log on Wednesday
  2. There's been a revamp??? That shows just how long I've been away from here when I can't even remember what it was like previously...
  3. My Little Willie is hanging on in there and still gets the occasional stroke... Oh the double en tendre potential that duo have
  4. That you've managed to not only keep yourself alive but to have found a passion strong enough to replace your former lifestyle is amazing. Not many people in the same situation can manage to do that.
  5. Thank G..., errrrr, technology for iPlayer. I missed it in real time (thanks to having to spend the coming week in London ) and just caught up with your couple of minutes. What was your turning point that made you decide you wanted to change?
  6. Awww, what a cutie They've got a full size Gruff at Wendover Woods that we said hello to a while back.
  7. What happens if you're an atheist?
  8. It just so happens that I have annual leave and about a million hours of flexi time to use up, so what a wonderfully geeky way to use some of it. I'll have a proper look through the itenerary and see what I can get away with booking. Top man for posting (Yes, I do realise they're evening lectures. But they're still a good excuse for a day off).
  9. It's always a pleasure to see your crack first thing in the morning If you hadn't captioned it, my guess would've been some sort of tilt/shift pic of the Grand Canyon.
  10. That's a good point. I've now worked with two people with Foundation Degrees in Arb that have been kin useless. They've come straight into the job with zero experience and haven't been able to do what was required of them. One appreciated this and was eager to learn. Tother one was an arrogant twat who wouldn't listen to anyone and made twice as much work for the rest of the team. I've also worked/work with some incredibly good people who have had very few academic quals but have been exceptionally good at what they do as they've had many years of experience. However, in these days of arse covering, I do think that having the PTI and a L3 demonstrate that you have the technical ability to recognise and quantify defects, should there ever be a serious failure that results in injury or death.
  11. Why are you asking @bumble B? Are you thinking of putting a claim in? As already said, the job description and essential requirements will dictate the qualifications and experience needed for the position. This will usually be a joint decision between management and insurance. The most asked for quals now are the LANTRA PTI and a role specific Level 3, although this is at the LAs discretion. Where someone's managed to stay in one position for more than a couple of years without getting bored or getting sacked, a level of CPD and an up to date training matrix is part of working for LA these days, as they are all very litigation conscious.
  12. Despite several decades of trying to avoid Songs Of Praise on a Sunday, I'll try and watch this. For various reasons, I'm really interested in your story and how you've done so well in changing the direction of your life. Ta for posting.
  13. Oowww, your eczema flare up looks nasty. Is that a pic you took yourself or a cheeky screensnip? The clarity and resolution is amazing.... but I still haven't got the foggiest what it is. Sighhhh, the pleasure of grappling you in adult nappies will not be mine this time around.
  14. Where's the forehead-slapping emoji when you want it?
  15. Gottit . Although it took me a while, much to my annoyance. It's surprising how it's something I see all the time but I never really, properly, look at it.
  16. Araucaria is pretty bombproof and can even come back from being coppiced, but one thing they are particularly prone to is honey fungus. If that is the cause of the advanced decline in yours, then sadly the only thing to do is remove it and replant with something more resistant.
  17. Janey would be quite happy to let you have HER one in its entirety. I'm not sure that my landlord would be quite so happy about it mind you. +1 for @Ian Clarke and his Barcham suggestion.
  18. +1. The people @ TEP are incredibly knowledgeable and forward thinking. It's a great company to work for and they really value their staff.
  19. As per usual, I'm late joining this party . Here are a few reasons why I'm sooooo happy to have moved out of Laahndaahn and joined the country set. What a beeeeutiful way to start and end a working day.
  20. I - literally - can't recognise the majority of my family, but obscure trees? Oh, no problem there. It does help that I've got a dirt big example at the side of our driveway that I have to avoid every day. Glad you've managed to impress your customer.
  21. Platycladus orientalis. I'm not sure what the English name is... It used to be a Thuja until it was moved into a different genus a few years ago.
  22. Have you considered an apprenticeship? Tbh, it's not something that I know an awful lot about, but there's a bit more info on the AA and RFS sites. https://www.trees.org.uk/Careers/Apprenticeships http://www.rfs.org.uk/study/apprenticeship-providers/
  23. My monies on Sweetgum, Liquidambar styraciflua. Darn nice trees with reliably good autumn colouring.
  24. If you're going to close the footway and redirect pedestrians across the road and/or you're gonna be longer than 20 minutes then, technically, yes... I couldn't possibly say as a TO that common sense should come into play and putting notice in for an hour's hedge trimming would be ott. And don't moan at me - I don't make up these laws!
