  2. Yeah we have a calico tabby....she is totally unfazed by dogs- I have only known her run from 3 dogs in 11 years. If we wnat to worm her or anything you need welding gauntlets on:laugh1:

The pulleys are pretty bombproof, but failures do happen for a number of reasons including (RARE) manufacturing defects, in which case buying from a proper dealer would be most advisable......if catastrophic failure occurred leading to damage to property or worse, leading to an HSE involvment/ insurance claim then I think your question would be more than answered. This isnt about getting refunds, its about the fact that you are buying equipment that in the case of failure can be very very dangerous.
  6. I have to say that I am finding this thread somewhat confusing. Many moons ago when I only had 30/31 tickets I was given the job of felling a huge oak for my brother in law. I had an 088 but it was predominately for use with an alaskan, as most of my work back then (this was about 1998) was site clearance, firewood and a bit of milling. I fely way out of my depth (the largest tree I had felled up until then had been about 3' DBH, done with a 039 stihl!!!!!). So i rang my instrustor (LANTRA and NPTC assessor too) for advice and he just said get the 088 out with a big bar- why not? I said about only having 30/ 31 and he said that (in this particular case) it was pretty much the same rules, but on a bigger scale than what i was taught in 30/31. He certainly didnt mention any legal rquirement of having any other tickets. TBH although i have heaps of tickets now (30,31,32,33,38,39,40,41,chipper) I agree with Huck in general. Paper doesnt mean ability/ safeness.

The Sarge says, 'Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized lobsters and a swag of nice crabs attached to her, so we've brought you your share.' He hands the bloke a bag with a couple of nice lobsters and four or five crabs in it. 'Geez thanks. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind and all that... So what's the other possible good news? 'Well', the Sarge says, 'if you fancy a quick trip, me and young Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again!
  8. Here is the response i got ftom the relevant govt department when i inquired about stretching my 110 to a 130. Thank you for your email of 13 October regarding changes to your vehicle. The first thing you would need to do would be to contact the vehicle manufacturer to confirm if any changes are feasible. The garage would have to be a reputable one and as mentioned your insurance company would need to know. DVLA would need to know for any change on the registration document. I hope this helps.   10. I have enquired extensively about the heavy duty thing, and am assured that the wall thickness is a myth to all intents and purposes on 110. There are slight differences to some of the gussets where the parts of the chassis join, but other than that the main issue is the suspension and brakes, which if you have the Hi-cap will be the same as the 130 anyway. (all this info from my landrover dealers who have been working on them for 50 odd years, and have cut and welded pretty much every conceivable chassis variant there is.

  15. Takeuchi or Schaeff all the way IMO. Lots of tear out power for the size of the machines, better build quality and more than one hydraulic pump. If you are looking at 3 tonne machines IME you can get 2 arm lengths. Get the shorter armed machine, as the longer arm just serves to overbalance the machine. TBH a 1.5 tonne Takeuchi will outdig a 3 tonne JCB any day. Aftersales on CAT is superb from what i have been told.
  16. That was flippin unreal hearing that!!!!! What the contractor doesnt seem to grasp is that your client is no moron....He could see straight away that an attempt to pull the wool over his eyes was being made; he didnt need any input from yourself/ us. I have to say I am somewhat flabbergasted that this particular contractor, who advertises as a stump grinding company after all, could leave that job the way he did.
  17. I am glad you have (evidently) had good experiences with these stoves. I have to stick to my original point here and disagree with you though. Every Villager stove I have had/ used has been distinctly lacking in build quality, efficiency and longevity when compared to the likes of Woodwarm, Jotul, Esse, Coalbrookdale (always made by Aga-rayburn, but now sold as Aga) to name a few. Villager are great until you use something better and realise that actually they are very budget.
  18. Dave- what you havent mentioned here is what your customer was told by said contractor.....when he was saying about it today he said that the contractor had told him it would be about 11" below soil.......herein lies the issue IMO. If he has stated a depth he must grind to that depth.

As far as i can tell, although you wont need THAT many repairs if you just use it as a general tow motor and dont abuse it off road all the time, when you do need to repair it, it will be phenomenally costly. They have a fantastic reputation for towing though. Didnt Dean Loftouse have one? Or was that the amazon?
  20. I do know of a stumpgrinding contractor in Cornwall who drives said rig, yes....
  21. Galvafroid is what i would have suggested. Looks like old galvanising.
  22. Tub grinder (there is one in gloucestershire i Believe) or just pay lorries to take them away.
