  1. Stick with the rope- you wont be able to get the necessary purchase from pin to pin with chain. If you have used them you will see what i mean.
  2. One that shrugs off the amount of meat we eat. A major part of deforestation is due to the production of soya and the grazing of animals (cattle mostly) for meat....soya is one of the biggest ingredients in animal feeds. It also requires huge amounts of nutrients to grow in otherwise impoverished (former) rainforest soil, which has its own negative implications too.
  3. Dont get me wrong- she ought to face the consequences of her actions- but to advocate/ encourage neighbourly dispute (for want of a better phrase) seems to me to be what she is already doing, therefore as bad as her. She needs teling, and IMO the best form of retribution would be to ensure that the tree never comes down at all!! I think that would be justice for her attempted dishonesty/ underhandedness.
  4. I had to do a morning long course- i was caught by a camera very late at night towing the chipper at 56 in a 50 zone , so maybe they didnt think it warranted the length of course some of you lot have mentioned, but we did watch this video taken from a car driving throught the centre of Preston i think. You had to identify hazards, much the same asin the current driving test theory i believe. I picked out something like 36 potential hazards, ranging from junctions with streets, roadworks to even saying bushes in the central reservation could pose a hazard in case anyone was in them......there were about 32 of us on the course, including these four mums (incidentally they are the highest 'subscribers' to these courses as they nearly all get caught on the school run doing about 38 in 30 zones), one of whom had struggled to identify more than 4 hazards!!!!!! (most people had said about 20-30, the optimum target for the driving test would have been 19). I wonder how some of these people pass their tests!
  5. I was sent on a speed awareness course, and went with alot of misgivings. By the end of the course I came away a better, slwoer and more careful driver and with the belief that EVERYONE should go on the course. Maybe i got a good one, but TBH i thought it was excellent.
  6. Syc reduction today and within seconds there was the same Dave. we have had daffs flowering, in bud since november, and snowdrops in flower aswell as a campion looking flower at Mum's in north cornwall!!!
  7. Wow- never thought of that. I assumed chestnut was all cleft for some reason (it hardly grows down here so we rarely see it ourside of chestnut palings or whatever that stuff with wire twisted through it is called) I have sent my mate a link to this thread now, but could you PM me with a price on chestnut rounds? Ta.
  8. Telegraph poles are the prefered option, but unfortunately have been ruled out on this job....
  9. Thanks for all the replioes so far guys- this is realy really helpful. I have just rung him with some of what you have posted so far, and it sounds like it would have to be full rounds, which possibly rules out the chestnut anyway. The jacksons website looked promising.- TBH it didnt seem that dear when factored into the metreage price. Over 3km its alot of stakes and stariners etc etc, so with a big enough order there could be a bit of a discount and transport may not be such a blow. he isnt a memebr, but i will probably email him a link to this thread. Keep it coming, and thanks for your help:)
  10. MAybe- but he is possibly looking national. Sweet chestnut would be almost certainly out of the (budget) question, but the haulage MIGHT not be out of the way.......all suggestions welcome thanks:thumbup1:
  11. Haha thanks for that Stu....i did mention it but natural england dont quite see a justification of stretching their budget that far:001_rolleyes: BTW its in the south west, and WH Bond and Truro Sawmills have been advised to him already.
  12. Can anybody help out there? A fencing contractor friend of mine requires 1000 4-5" TD 5'6" long fencing stakes for a coast path job. The problem he has is now that the powers that be (in their infinite wisdom:sneaky2:) decreed that the active ingredient in tanalised timber (arsenic) could no longer be used, stakes are barely lasting 3-5 years before rotting off, this is not acceptable at the best of times, but especially not on this particular project. Are there any suppliers (in the UK preferably) who can supply a product that will give at least ten years, as used to be the case? Ta.

Good post. Sorry for all adversely affected.
  14. You dont have weaver harnesses in the list. I use a treemotion now, but used to use a weaver. Good but heavy.
  15. Barrington- that is REALLY bad. 2 wrongs DO NOT make a right.
  16. Not sure about the smoke, but its worth a fortune.
  17. Well done Anthony. Got a couple of days work for you the following week if you want it- need a third pair of hands for a couple of days on a takedown. Ill be in touch.
  18. Frank- good to see you back mate!! You were moving pretty quickly there mate.....
  19. To work out volume of soft wood sawlogs you just use your sawlog top diameter tables....never mind volumes of cylinders, that dont work. volume of a cylinder is pi x r2 x height. (or in a logs case length) but it still isnt relevant here.
  20. Its so cute isnt it. This piracy bill has much further reaching aims than just stopping illegal downloads I reckon.
  21. what is the file extension Huck? As in .doc at the end or what?
