  1. Beautiful floor Bob. Odd one Harvey!
  2. You're fine up to about a metre with a decent bow wave in a standard defender.
  3. Heres an episode.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NmFWxFbdMQ&feature=related]Bleak Expectations - (SE1 - E3) - A Youth Utterly Crocked - YouTube[/ame]
  4. Yeah should be good. You ever listened to Bleak Expectations on radio4?
  5. I would say that if you are going to get into tree care as a career then the 029 wouldnt be the best choice. A well looked after second hand 346 husky, 026 stihl etc would be a better bet if budget is a concern.
  6. Wow what a spectacular tree. Why did it have to come down?
  7. I am smiling as I write my posts- perfectly relaxed LOL. I have just been checking in all my books too- the biggest giveaway is the lack of clear delineation between the dark and light bands, and the grain just doesnt look like walnut at all. Anyway I am off to the beach now to walk the dogs in a storm and watch some awesome waves. Letas agree to disagree. you're still wrong though:lol:
  8. YOu are welcome to strongly disagree, it doesant alter the fact that you are wrong.
  9. what do you mean ash isnt like this???? Olive ash is IDENTICAL to that piece of wood- grain coarseness, 3 colour bands from dark to light, the heartwood in walnut us more defined compared to the sapwood, you dont tend to get that third colour, and the chopping board's grain even has the characteristic stripes of dark and light too.
  10. Cracking timber, and great firewood. Coppice the lot.
  11. You taught me well Oh chief high llama!
  12. I am not sure who my sympathies are with more........Stevie's hand, or Mark James' misery:sneaky2:..... That is nasty Steve- bad luck for being kept in mate. That sucks. Mark- grow up.
  13. IMO vauxhall=good motor. We have (abused) had a few and they have all gone on for ever and evre whatever the abuse they get given!
  14. Seriously- if you have no clonking or banging whe you take up drive, and you are just leaking oil from the front then at worst you need to remove the prop from the axle (four 9/16th nut/bolts), then not only replace the seal, but also the flange . These jobs can be done with the axle on the car, and the parts should come to under £50. Quite often the flange gets a groove worn in it where the seal has been rubbing, so a new seal wont seal it. Like Mike says- mental!
  15. It was a cool place to go to school.......
  16. Is gaunts house still some hippy healing retreat sort of establishment?
  17. Where was that pic taken MAtt? The portman hunt used to leave from my prep school when it was at Gaunts House...you must know where that was MAtt?
  18. YOu should be able to get it repaired for about £500. If you buy a second hand rear axle for less than this, off a breaker, then I am sorry to say but you would be MAD. You will still have to sort the brakes, the bushes , suspension etc etc, its an easy job, but not a simple job, and I dont think you would save any money. At least if you have yours sorted then its a case of 'the devil you know' sort of thing. Are you on discs or drums? LAst time i looked disc rear salisburied were fetching about £500 anyway second hand.
  19. Matt have you ever seen the tool/ process of getting the salisbury diff out? It is stoneage mechanics.....if you look at the rear diff pan you can see two holes about 1/2" deep, one each side of the diff. These are for the special tool to spread, yes spread, the CAST axle casing a tiny amount to get the diff out!!!! Its like a jack with two pins that locate in these holes.
  20. Play in the diff of a salisbury is easily sorted out by a mechaninc who knows what he is doing. TBH play in the diff CANNOT be responsible directly for oil leaks on a salisbury, full stop. Your drive flange oil seal is gone if you are leaking oil from the front where the propshaft joins the axle, and if a new seal doesnt cure the problem (assuming that your breather is NOT blocked) then the drive flange may be (probably is) worn. Both of the above are VERY cheap and easy fixes. What may have caused the wear to these parts will be the input shaft bearing, which in turn MIGHT have become worn from a sloppy diff, but VERY unlikely. Andy Richards in Carharrick will have one (well loads in fact)..........but he is nicknamed Hedger because he used to keep all his spares in a hedge all the time..... TBH though I would be more inclined to have your axle repaired, as it is not expensive to get the diff re-shimmed (salisburies dont get rebuilt they have new shims put in which removes the slackness) and the input flange etc replaced. If you are leaking oil from the ends of the axle by the drive flanges then you just need to replace the gasket in the drive flange, and again, a worn diff will not cause this part to leak. HOpe this helps.
