    Hiya Mark , not sure if its of any use but im fairly sure that you can get a decent kit form Shed on tinterwed for a really reasonable cost , i was looking into building my own large shed 18 months ago , i realised once i had quotes for the timber thqt it was in fact cheeper to buy a kit form shed and put it up my self and it also lowers the time it takes and means you can be out on the tools earning money .

    I run a 28 inch bar on my 395xp and to be honest if i need anything bigger i will use one of the ms880's

    i know of a firm that bought several and they have had problems with them not starting , not ticking over and cuttin out while under load .

    Hmmmm maybe its a cricket pitch and they feel its causing to much shade/dammage to the grass ?

    not sure if it is of much use but having used Tomers 390 i decided to buy a 395 and can not rate it highly enough , i would not give a Stihl ms 660 a second thought now . I must be honset i do think that Husky have got their act together in recent years

    the Insulated MEWP's are a great bit of kit and if you use them for their intended purpose - live line tree cutting then they are well worth the £,s but as much as they are well services and no expense spared when it comes to parts i can assure you that they do have a hard life and are do spend most of their lives loaded to their legal limit and driven off road most of the time , i personally would look for a non insulated mog - they are lighter and im most cases they have not been thrashed off road .

    pwrsonally i would be using a grinder , i think the exclusion zone for a forrest multcher is about 50 meters , i would think that a big stump grinder would be better for that job and probably cause less mess to clear up on the road

    nope they simply would take on some agency staff to cover the extra L/A work . the best thing would be to petition against it and see how much support can be achieved nationalally , lets face it this is going to effect small firms , not only tree surgery firms but any small/medium business that provides a service .

    Huck i can assure you with the kit that you have got you would win hands down , but this is why they are not keen to get quotes in any more , too many questions would be asked as to why there is such a difference betwene the la nad local contractors , also i think you would find a big difference betwene q quote from the la when they know they are not quoting against any one and a quote when they know they have competition !!!

    however the LTD companies that L/A's are setting up are to be run as a proffit making business .

    Put it this way - How competetive would you be if you had a budget from the council for doing their work that would more than cover the running costs each year but leave you plenty of time to carry out other works and you also knew that because you were connected to the L/A you would not be stopped by highways or the local HSE officer if you were not complying with the rules ?? and to to it off you knew that no one could even so much as quote against you for any council work !!!

    Yes this is true , cornwall council has set up its own company , all equiment has been funded by the tax payer and it has been made clear to me that Cornwall council intends to not only use its compant for all council works without it going out to tender but they will be competing for works outside of the council . Makes me think that i should ask David Chameron for a new mog and chipper at the tax payers expense !!!!

    Hey no worries Hamma , after readin my post i realised that it may have sounded a little rude , i totally understand that yuor passionate about trees and i would agree that more of us in the arb sector need to get envolved , i personally feel that there is still a ways to go in breaking down the barriers that still exist betwene arborists and the consultancy sides of the industry . I certainly would like to go to more of the seminars but living and running a company down in cornwall does not really permit me to get away for seminars Any way i will look forward to feedback from all of you after the seminar

    Personall if i was looking to do the job i would be certainly be usind particulate protection masks for all persons on site , secondly i would only considder chipping to be an option if there were no alternatives and would specify that all brash to be chipped was soaked with water to ensure as little dust as possible is created . Have you considdered that you may well need to chip into a sealed ski for specialest disposall ? i can assure you it is not cheap . Hope all goes well with the job if you do it Cheers Dave

    Hamma have a word with your self , Not everyone is at the level that you are , Yes im sure it is a rather important seminar for many but to state that no one is forcing anyone but it will be their loss etc is hardly a sure fire way of inspiring young Arbs to get envolved .
