  1. Couple of jobs in arbjobs in Sweden at the moment if you have the experience.
  2. IF i had a mate do that to me i would put him out of action for a while. That's how i would sort it.Sometimes just a good thrashing gets the message through!
  3. Im a Immigrant so unfortunately you wouldn't get my vote, most of your policies do sound quite good!
  4. Im not part of the ''doing it for years brigade''Im a safe and competent saw user,I don't wanna get hurt so work safe.I would put money on passing my assessments first time, not cocky just confident.I Was a boat builder before i came into tree work so had a pretty good knowledge of tools, machinery so picked up saw work fairly easy, within 6 months of starting i was running my own truck and guys within a large company. You may be one of the better assessors and that's a good thing, but from what ive seen there are a lot that let very easy passes.
  5. This whole thing is ticking boxes. You are going to get hurt if you cut yourself regardless of refresher courses.I came over from NZ 5 yrs ago to the UK and found the nptc thing farcical, not that it's any better at home. You pretty much can't fail these courses unless your a idiot.Majority of the people that ive been on with my courses with should have never passed!.I just can't respect a system that provides passes for these people. Sorry it's not a attack at you just annoys me.
  6. Hope this doesn't mean i have to re-sit anything that i already have?
  7. Looks interesting.Another gadget that could be good if it lasts the distance!
  8. I've done both mine playing rugby, had numerous cortisone injections etc..strength training, sometimes not even been able to lift a saw.I think time helps, but told by my physio who was physio for Scotland rugby for 10 yrs that unless you get them operated on they never heal, obviously depending on what exactly has happened.Have had any probs lately but they do flair up when i surf to much,i've learnt to live with them along with every other injury!
  9. Try dundee forestry department, they do hardwood bogey loads in lengths of around 4m.
  10. Dry euc is amazing firewood!
  11. I think if your around the stem and it has a decent collar for your rope to sit on then no problem, but would only use it for decent,as soon as you work off it,it would be to dangerous, generally there's always a better, safer option.
  12. Ok got it cheers,a lot to learn.
  13. Ok so better to be a freelancer then a subbie, what about if i was to take on my own jobs aswell?.
  14. I find mud tires dig holes in snow rather then grip, similar to sand.
  15. Hey mate do you work in edinburgh?if so who for? or is it for yourself,am coming back to Scotland on the 18th and am looking for some work/contacts from then on. Cheers Paul
  16. Is it needed as a sub contrator,or would you be covered under the main contractors? Is it just advisable to get it? Where to look? Any advice please? Thanks.
  17. I have had a VT fail in the rain,3 twists,3 wraps,on a cocoon rope saver, slipped about 10ft,but got my hand on it quick enough, hasn't failed in the ice,i don't think its just the cold that's the problem,i work in Boras, which is apparently the wettest place in Sweden,so ropes are pretty wet most of the time then you get them freeze up, there's fark all you can do but solider on,maybe you had no problems, but other people obviously do,karabiners not opening or closing a big problem at the moment.
  18. TO true, digs were getting paid but is all changing on this contract, not good.
  19. Haha hope your joking,I swear im in the arse end of Sweden,Dont know how the mech devices would go when there's frozen lumps in the rope, one of the boys here has a sj and i haven't really seen it out in the cold yet!.
  20. I've seen tons of reds with grey tinge in Sweden, all over the show. Not sure if they are native here.Saw plenty of reds in Scotland but no where near as many as here. Amazing to watch them in trees!
  21. Maybe post this in the employment section aswell.
  22. Arbjobs, been quite a few jobs up for over here,i think once your here its easier to find work.
  23. I live in Anstruther and have been there quite a bit and its about as good as any other town, lots of neds, which is typical of most towns, but no more trouble then any where else i dont think.
  24. Hey mate, alot south of you place called boras,on a rail contract to goteborg with a little private here and there.Ive been here 4months but live in scotland its no where near as cold there as here.frozen ropes is a new thing for me and frozen fingers/toes!
