ahh small world.what was ya mates name in treescape?Minings good money everywhere i think especially in OZ but you wouldnt catch me underground,maybe driving trucks but stuff that I thinkg just about everyone in nz knows the finns in one way or another!

I thinkg it was good to see a tree assosiated program on but found alot it was crap and alot of those guys were friggen idiots.You can see why so many of them die.example.One guys talking about a mate whole died after slipping on to a stump which had a bit of a barber chair on it.CUT THE SPIKES OFF AFTER FELLING!. Also,why did they leave such high stumps? the skyline got caught up on them all the time and everyone bitched about it.CUT THE STUMPS DOWN!.Or at least fell it a bit lower and youll get a bit more timber on the log.Dont get me wrong ya dont have to cut into the dirt but a bit lower would have helped all round. Or is there some reason why they cut so high?

haha thats fuuny about xmas in summer,im the other way i wana be in my shorts having a barbie and beers and the cold at christmas dosen't seem right to me.true about the'' 4 seasons in one day.''crowded house. John yes its not bad my wifes christmas present which im pretty happy about.hopefully get out to day for a wave,have to see what happens

Well where theres trees theres firewood.Dosent matter if its softwood or hard,pine or poplar it all burns in nz.

I think the hairdresser is ignorant,and if she went to nz wouldnt she be doin the same and stealing a kiwis job?hmm Fire wood im not sure about all i know thats its sells really well.i used to climb or a guy who did firewood and he just couldnt get enough.Its different here people only want wood if its cut stacked and put on there fire,at home when your cutting a tree ppl are there waiting to pay cash for the wood and chips,using the resorces i suppose!

i use a 372 xp and ya just cant beat them.the 375 for that price is a steal especially for a new one.good buy and happy cutting

The main traing providers are a couple of uni's or collages ,thing is their certs are not reconized out side nz or aus.I was on a 3year NZQA/lantra national certificate which is part time with block coarses.The company i worked for had accredited trainers so alot of certs/tickets were done in house.If you were unfortunate to not have in house trainers then it would be quite difficult.I found the whole thing very disorganized as certified arboriculture is still quite new in nz.We don't have NPTC or really anything like it,and to be honest i dont think you need it.I have found the whole NPTC thing money making scheme,as i thought it would be alot harder to get the tickets when in reality it was a breeze. If you work for a big company like my old one Treescape or Asplundh then the consultancy work is there,and there plenty for the local authorities. Any tickets or certs you have from here should swap right over to our system with no problems,which is more then can be said for coming over this way.(yes im sour about having to fork out £ to resit stuff i already new). Hope thats gives you a bit of insite. Mr mike hill as far as im aware workers in the big smoke or JAFA town as ppl call it do get paid alot more then anywhere else in nz.I think working for a massive company with a huge turnover helps with the wage aswell.With a bit of overtime each week i was earning over a grand,And i wasnt on top dollar either.The consultants or liason above us were acutally geting paid less but obivously were getting a decent package out of it.I think.because i was doing alot of utility work on a big new contract they could afford to pay more. Yes house prices are crazy in nz and thats the reason why we are here as we couldn't get a morgage there,but we pretty much came into the same situation over here and its very hard to save pounds with the cost of living here.Dam i dont even do much ,i work and i surf.IF i have enough petrol in my car to get to the waves then thats my out goings.Cheap lifestyle i suppose it has to be living here. I think if the oprtunity comes up to go i say go,cause ya just never know whats around the corner and you don't wana spend ya life thinking ''what if?''# Thats my speil

I think the money is better in nz.Heres a rough example for you.Say i got payed 800 a week nz after tax and had to get a tank of petrol for my olfd nissan patrol i would be left with 720 which is 80 bucks a tank.when over here say a basic wage is 400quid.the mondeo takes one fifth of that in petrol and i am left with much less and the living isnt cheap but obivously it isnt dirt cheap in nz either.I found at home my wage went alot further.IS quite a broad example but its what i could think of at the time.Also ya cant look at exchanges rates and the like as its all relevant when your earning in which ever country. As for the creepy crawlies and the like,We get red backs,black widows and a coastal spider i cant remember the name of but nothing that can really kill you like OZ. I have a slight form of aracnaphobia(excuse the spelling) which is good in the uk as you guys have nothing here.The weta on the other hand is in just about every nook and crany of most trees where im from and although they dont harm as such,having one crawl down the neck in your shirt is not the nicest,ive seen many a hard man running around the site trying to swat the things off(quite funny i can assure you)google them and you will see. What made me come here? Well me and the family got quite stagnant in nz and just fancied a change,the wife got offered a job on a estate as a groom for a lord and lady and here we are nearly 2 years down the track.don't know how long we will be here for just have to see how it goes. We had quite a few older british friends that took the plunge with their familys,and i tell ya what none are coming back. anyway thats about that for now.im sure plenty of ppl will have different takes on what ive said but thats all good. cheers

Well im a bit late commenting on this topic but will put my 2 cents worth in. Im a kiwi born and bred westy from auckland. I think some ppl are exagerating a few things about nz.Its not all big takedowns with 088's and deadwooding with 66's.YEs we do have some decent sized trees. I worked for a company called treescape which is the biggest in nz and there was alot of crane,heli and land clearing work,but like anywhere theres the normal arb side,pruning thinnning fromative work etc.. I personally think the money is much better,although me living in scotland the wages a possibly lower then england but from the rates i see that is not so. All your nptc's will swap straight over to our national cert credits,i wish it could be the same way,as when i came over had to start from the bottom again which is very frustrating.standard week is long its around 40-50 hrs with over time on top,it aint long its just hows its done there. We have alot more creepy crawlies and native things called Wetas which im not a fan off but its all good. anyways thats about that. cheers

ok so the kleimhiest is acting as friction?if its a strop does it grab the line line a normal friction knot?why could you not come down on that? cheers

Hey everyone, new to the site.Have a few questions regarding footlocking. Have been climbing for about 5 years and consider my self a competent working climber but have never really got into the whole foot locking thing.Anyone have some pointers? What type of hitch,knot or device would be used starting off? I can do the acutal footlocking part just not sure on the setup i should be using in regards to my harness etc.. Can you use any harness for this?Does the knot just attach on to sliding D like normal?i have a tree motion and is that any good for it? Cheers any help or advice would be great. nz paul:001_smile:
