  1. Second rope gets wet, same boat,im hearing the mech devices, but ropes still frozen and very kinky! Place im in in Sweden it pretty much rains most days so dry ropes dont exist, then the cold! Plus karabiners freeze solid so dont think the devices would help much/
  2. I know that dundee council do approx 10ton bogey loads for around the £200 mark,Little bit extra for travel, mostly 4m lengths, all hardwood,if you rang the forestry office they could probably help out.
  3. Funnily enough i was just going to post the same thread, although my vt is running fine my rope is almost frozen through, climbing in the rain one day then ice-snow the next is not a good mix, found out today that the lowering rope wont grab limbs very well and had one slide out just missing a fence. I think in regards to the vt,try different variations of the hitch,less/more wraps etc...more wraps less twists. In for a fun winter!
  4. Think you'll find a lot of them are gardeners with saw tickets.I worked for a council in Scotland in a arb squad of about 8 guys.Pretty small area to look after but it's amazing how under staffed we were at times, plus half the guys couldn't climb very well.We did a lot of private work, although was through word of mouth not advertised.Sure there were plenty of jobs where we had to many guys, but it just gets passed up the chain.
  5. I think there's tons of forestry work. Checkhttp://www.trademe.co.nz/jobs/agriculture-fishing-forestry.Sure there's plenty of other sites.Good luck.
  6. Does anyone know what pay rates Davey tree in Vancouver pay?. Or for experienced arborists in general in Canada? Cheers.

    Spikes

There's a guy making them and selling on eBay, actually look half decent for a budget of about 70quid if you barely use them would do the job!
  8. Heavy transport
  9. I'm sure someone could lend you one while your there, are you consulting there? If not the boys you work with should be able to help out on ident, always easier i find to learn the tree by working on it.
  10. FRANCITAL PRO CHAINSAW Clothing - Chainsaw - Clothing Buy UK Have a look at these, meant to be good for the price range you want to pay.
  11. Sweet nice pic,how come you guys travel so far for work?or just do it for bigger jobs?
  12. It's over priced and over rated, the wee chippy is just as good with 1/10 the crowds!
  13. I think a harness comes down to what type of work you do most, ive had two tree motions and liked them, but wouldn't rave about them just a good general harness,i now have a sequoia which is good for the price and working but like someone said not for sitting around in. Wouldn't mind giving the new Austria a shot.
  14. Thats pretty much the box cut, been around for a long time, all the guys i work with do it,can't say ive ever needed to but can see it's usefulness!
  15. :001_smile:yes there are plenty!
  16. NPTC Chainsaw Training for Tree Surgery and Forestry LANTRA | About Us | treevolution-scotland Chris is a good guy very helpfull and plenty of knowledge!

  19. Frontier forestry in Edinburgh are looking for guys, arbjobs!
  20. I hate it when people slam it on going full revs, does my tits in.Just let in slow down then put it on!.
  21. You taken a boat out of a tree?
  22. I've not done the 40,41 and was told by NPTC trainers that they were just a money maker, have worked for a few company's in the UK and now Sweden and have never needed them insurance wise.I think if your employer-contractor is happy with your work, ability etc.. then there is no problem.
  23. SRWP? i guess if it's all similar price then should get the better gear!
  24. Just moved to a place called aplared, middle of no where, inland from gotenborg, wrench is probably a bit expensive for me to start with.
  25. DO you think buying something like the wrench to start with is a good idea or something a bit more old school.example..i learnt to climb on a prussic not a cam,and have worked my way up as ive been learning.Or just go straight to the latest gadget?.
