  1. i find having my legs locked out whilst in a fixed position helps a lot, then when you are moving keep them slightly bent so you can react quicker if you gaff out or lose stability, i myself climb on a wirecore with a distel and pulley, and a main line chokered off on the stem via a running bowline, with a prussik loop to bug out on if anything goes wrong up on the pole that way you can just undo your flipline and whizz down, the prussik might not work well for bigger guys i would go with a blakes on a split tail.
  2. right now my boss is paying me £6.85 an hour for groundwork and gives me a 20 pound a day bonus before tax for climbing, im fully qualified nptc cs 30 31 38 39, pa1/6 and a nvq lvl 2 in arb. thats above minimum wage, but still what i would consider a low wage, now ive only got 1 and a half years experience, but i would consider that low pay for my skill level. i can climb pretty damn well, and my boss has used me as a charge hand/climber in the past, and also has me as the stand in climber if anyone takes sick days etc, ive done dismantles and big chogging, and fine tip reductions, am i not worth the extra money? or is this all a matter of the experience you possess? obviously with only 1 and a half years experience im not going to spot some of the things you older guys would pick up on straightaway, but i still get whatever work is given to me done by the end of the day. do i deserve a payrise?
  3. i did the 38 before the pole rescue became compulsory, but i have to say i love being on spikes at work, bit iffy when you gaff out, but doesnt happen too often.
  4. i dont know if a rope grab would cinch properly? doesnt it need the fabric layer to grip? thats a puzzle that one, i was thinking maybe webbing slings on a klemheist, but any broken strands on the wire would mess that up too.
  5. you can get stretch airs in red, also i think francital do some red type c's. other than that its hi viz or the SIP freedoms, but they arent type c they only have calf protection.
  6. over the next 1 to 2 years i want to get to be a properly up to speed climber, recently done my first dismantle, and done lots of climbing, in the next 5 years, move to a bigger better company, gain more experience and more qualifications, just want to climb right now.
  7. heres some pics ive taken at work this week, thought i might aswell share it, please dont be too harsh lol, the 2 trees im posting pictures of were in a conservation area, so i tried my hardest to make em look nice, hope i did them justice. before pic of a crown thin and ivy strip on this ash. After pic. Before and after pics of a reduction on a norway maple, spec was 30% but i think i went a little bit too hard on it. Before. After. hope you enjoy constructive criticism welcomed.
  8. i know a few people working at gristwood out of croydon, and they say its pretty good, id avoid city suburban i know a climber that works there and he works a LOT and the trees are priced baddd, although they do have a good bonus scheme, but you have to wreck yourself for it to be worth it.
  9. WOOP WOOP Passed it well chuffed, assessor was andy mead, really nice guy, and the assessment went well i thought, there were a few pointers but i definately took what andy said onboard. payrise here i come lol!
  10. yeah doing it at capel jay, we are doing it up at the farm, dont know if you went felling there or not? the trees are easy peasy though. im sure it will go fine, like you said mozza just gotta listen to the assessor and take my time! it aint work. its not part of the apprenticeship i was on at capel though, but my boss is paying for all of it result.
  11. im really looking forward to it hopefully yet another ticket under my belt, the training was a doddle so i hope the assessment should be pretty straight forward, ive had my head deep in the assessment schedule. any last minute tips? i know the main focus of the assessor is on your work positioning, and i find that pretty easy, its just i have to keep an eye on my bad habits from work.
  12. i encountered some rabbits with mixmatosis while doing conservation work on lundy island , was pretty grim, laboured breathing wide eyes they were just skin and bone too.
  13. super cute. how did you get so close?
  14. i know there is a breeding program for ospreys in england, may well be related to that with the natural history museum tag, nice work mate, it was that birds lucky day, no doubt it wouldnt of made it if you hadnt of come along.
  15. but really? i think a suit is a must for an interview for tree officers surveyors etc, but brush draggers and groundsmen? your counting out some dedicated people.
  16. i just came in in everyday jeans n trainers for my interview, i thinks its more about what you say and your confidence and attitude.
  17. ive done an apprentice and cant rate enough, ive been in arb a year and a half and im a pretty up to speed climber, getting regular climbs at work, the apprenticeship was 1 year and during that i gained 3 NPTCs 30 31 38 and an NVQ level 2 in trees and timber, im also doing my cs39 next week, all payed for by my boss, havent had to spend a penny on courses. i think if you want a more theory based course with that deeper knowledge, then go for the NC or ND, but the apprenticeship will give you hands on experience with both the college and work side of things.
  18. "I really enjoyed last years FR jones show, the climbing comp was great fun, and ill definately be coming back for more." Angus.

  22. definately worth £250 of anyones money, i laughed so hard, i love the way he tries to style it out.
  23. i seen some frogs spawning in a 1 foot square pond in a customers garden on friday, amazing, its the second time ive seen them in the same customers garden, he gets his bay hedge cut same time every year which coincides with the spawning season, the pond was rammed with spawn. does anyone know if frogs are protected? can you move them from your pond if you consider them a nuisance? (not that i do, just wondering)
  24. wonder if they added high heeled boots as a risk in the RA LOL! HOTTT stuff though
