  1. I agree. I knew it looked familiar; I recently had one identified as such by a Dip Hort Kew friend.

Bloody hell Mark... I don't know what to say. As for 'central government' policy - I doubt it; sounds like a nifty bit of buck passing. After all it would mean that an MP who got his garage done over and the Rolls damaged wouldn't get a visit. Right. ?
  3. Beat me to it. I've found warm pigeon eggs n October. As long as it's warm enough they'll shit eggs.
  4. I wonder if Nissan will buy it back cos of the cracked chassis?
  5. Not half bad eh? I'm assuming that was from the lump I supplied, hence my asking? Thanks for the pics.
  6. Hi Steve. Any chance of a pic of the Pagoda? Ta, Jon
  7. The submerged stumps of Stone Age walkway pilings in the Fens have also been identified as alder.
  8. I was going to make a couple of inane observations of my own but won't now embarrass myself after that post - that's brilliant.
  9. I like that, especially the bit about landfill: I mean wtf in this day and age?! The whole of waste management in this country is being done just so badly; it's turned into a moneymaking exercise for those that want it and has nothing to do with reusing/recycling, reducing waste etc. It gets harder to lose domestically produced waste because of it and bureaucracy (more than half an old wardrobe = trade waste!) rather than being made an easier and more eco friendly (horrible expression!) experience. Without condoning it I do understand why some flytipping occurs.
  10. Leaving aside what the thing looks like I'd say there was actually good intent on the part of the operator; less large cuts have been made just above unions rather than huge cuts being made below them and hence leaving long stubs. I can visualise a decent operator working with gritted teeth attempting damage limitation within a dictated spec. Probably not though ?
  11. We live and learn. Never had anything to do with Alder!
  12. I'll go for the genus Cercis and let an expert go for the species - or correct genus!
  13. Could just be the client's insisted spec.

    Look out!

Yikes. What tune does the security arch play for you at the airport?!
  15. Hmmm... possibly; the H & L screws are so darned small you need a 10-year old's eyes to see. But at just 2mm it may be the right answer. A flat blade is certainly OK for the T screw but probably 4mm is best for that. Thanks.
  16. Fair point; I know the real thing from Echo is silly money. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks but the tuning screw heads for the 2511 and the 620 are different! The 2511 has a single D head but we think the 620's are tiny hex heads! Yes I can buy the whole set of tuning thingies and only use two of them but was hoping to be a bit more specific. If not then your suggestion will fit the bill so to speak ? Cheers.
  18. ..They've been sharpening my Jo Beau blades excellently for years. Actually called Winsor saw Ltd as I'm told you're not allowed to use the name Windsor in Windsor without Her Maj's say-so. ?
  19. Can anyone tell me exactly what tuning tool I need for a 620SX? The plastic bag that comes with the saw contains a small slot screwdriver that may just fit the T screw but the H & L screws are so small and so far down the tunnels that I can't see what their tops are ? Cheers, Jon
  20. ...and dries surprisingly fast for such a dense wood; good stuff.

    Jokes???

Never heard of the man but he does tell a joke very well.
  22. Not any different up here in Caterham but the good man did say it's not worth arguing ?
  23. Your best bet is probably to find a stately home or similar near you that has a walled garden and speak to the gardeners there. There are still a lot about thankfully. I was at one local to me only last Saturday that had espalier'd pears, plums and others on walls. Books/internet will help but there's nothing like speaking to practitioners is there!
  24. ...which is why late summer is the recommended time to prune Prunus; it gives the best chance of allowing the sap to flush away spores. If you're going to cut the tree I'd do it asap.
