  1. @Stubby it's in Boche; can't understand a word 🤭
  2. My thought too. Where did the idea of oak come from?!
  3. The place we moved to near Bexhill in 1968 had 4 acres with over 700 trees planted by the previous owner, including 50-odd Cricket Bat Willows. They were 80'+ trees by then and Gray Nicolls used to pop along from Robertsbridge every year and harvest two trees: the spec was a minimum of 16' of straight knot-free stem with a minimum girth of 48". The rest of the tree my dad processed into firewood for my mum to try and burn in the house when it was only half seasoned 😟
  4. As a user of Aspen, both 2 and 4, for several years in multiple machines, new and old, I doubt very much the fuel has caused the problem; especially so with a new machine. I think you need to look into the hardware so to speak. I sincerely hope I'm right.
  5. He knows a thing or two about logs
  6. With such a limited sighting perhaps a Greater Spotted Woodpecker? Take a look at Images and see if it's even close. Agreed not larger than a thrush but it was a brief sighting...
  7. And care even less as long as the logs they get burn OK. And who can blame them?
  8. Can't see a problem with that .Clearing arisings from site is part of the job; the lumps aren't firewood for sale ARE THEY!
  9. If you met the buyer at the garage - your car garage or a petrol station? - how does he know where your gear is?
  10. If the tree has to go and there's room for a fell then do that. If it needs dismantling how about leaving a good monolith? That's a big tree; the stem would make great habitat
  11. Ashes to ashes Radioactive poss Heart of Darkness

  13. But they're not all going to waste: this lot has just gone to a very good woodturner

    Jokes???

What does anyone make of the three individuals standing on the sand, the middle one being carried by the others it appears?
  15. They are the ultimate opportunists aren't they. I was rolling some large imperfect elm rings off my pickup yesterday morning and by the time I'd got to moving the next ring a robin was exploring the mush in the previous one.
  16. I didn't even see the stump! And I assumed the logs came from another of the pictured trees but now I don't think so. The logs are definitely Prunus but one reason I said 'cerasifera or similar' is that the form of the tree isn't right for cerasifera; the branches are too straight. Well spotted @Stere The logs are Prunus, the trees in the last pic probably Hornbeam.
  17. Very handy. I have three sizes of rack for this system - it's brilliant
  18. Plum - Cherry Plum probably; Prunus cerasifera (or similar)

  20. The first (small) stumps I ever ground was with a 9hp Dosko: they're good machines but even 9hp was too small for anything but the diddiest job. As said 13hp is a world away from that; sufficient for most stumps and will get into virtually any garden. Hire one for a day and see for yourself. The Rayco RG13 is the industry standard for want of a better term. I was very impressed with the Carlton machine but don't know if that's available for hire; I got one from Orange Plant when they served the South
  21. Every few years to have a longlasting effect; soil rapidly reverts to type. Forget it; work with what you have.
  22. I think mob grazing is part of what's termed regenerative agriculture, at least in the States where it seems to be taking off slowly: YouTube has many vids on the subject. It does make sense, especially the part where you don't destroy the soil structure every year with heavy fossil fuel-burning machines. Matty and Beau; it looks like you're ahead of the game by returning to ancient practice - talk about reinventing the wheel 😂 Sorry about that - you get a big thumb up from me for doing it
