  1. Christ, call those gardens?! Great examples of 'the customer's always right'. You're right - they look shit! 😂
  2. I'd claim long-serving bonus! Been here since 2008 I think. I've met probably 30 members and 'know' 10 or so at approximate guesses. I've earned jobs through the site, I've done work for others thanks to it, I've gained many tons of free firewood through it, I've been able to point others in the right direction because of it. I'm hugely grateful and feel morally guilty that it's all free. If Steve Bullman was valued by means of the financial benefits to the site's members he'd be the next Mark Zuckerberg. Life's tough Steve 😧
  3. Couldn't find the pickup keys at the end of the day. Greedy boards stacked high and I'd hidden the spare key at home so safely I couldn't find that either! Next day had laden pickup recovered to mercifully nearby main dealer for them to provide new code and cut two new keys. Luckily I had keys insurance so ended up only £36 out of pocket (the cost of the second key). Days later I found the spare at home - inevitably. Three months later I lent my chainsaw gloves to my mate for his CS31 refresher and he found a lump in one of them... exactly where I'd hidden the original key while we worked behind the house. So I had four keys for the truck, two of which worked (the new ones) and two which didn't because the truck's code had been changed.
  4. Well the book's just gone on my Christmas list!
  5. You may have read this too https://www.organicresearchcentre.com/news-events/ramial-woodchip-production-and-use-on-farm/
  6. Now that's a new one on me. Wouldn't happen on my soil I think (Weald clay)! But I am wary of mulching heavily with fresh chip in the growing season. I may be right, I may be wrong to be so but it's no biggie to play safe and store the stuff for a while so I can either mulch in the growing season with composted chip or in winter with fresh. Cheers
  7. I've never heard any discussion before dependent on depth apart from surface vs incorporated. My understanding is that nitrogen robbery is comparatively short-term as nitrogen is used up assisting the decay process: in the long term. nitrogen is returned to the soil in surplus within the breakdown products of that decaying
  8. Out of the growing season I don't care what age is the chip I use as mulch - I was putting chip round small shrubs yesterday that was chipped on Friday. I'm not aware of ever having suffered problems as a result. Remember this is surface mulch, not incorporated matter. I have though stunted plants' growth by planting into ground recently victimised by a stumpgrinder. So I don't think it matter what chip you use

  12. Nowt to do with this thread but I think you're talking about the tank-driving prat in Croydon who also stuck a shark through his house roof as a finger to the LA...?

    Jokes???

One of the best comedy series ever; the oneliners from Hawkeye and MacIntyre were simply non-stop and hilarious
  14. A common garden tree in the south, I doubt so much in the north. So common in fact that we had one at the old house and are growing a baby one here!

  16. Will go to the Acer thread when I get a mo; I'll alert you 👍
  17. I've been holding off a couple until now; hedged I definitely intend to cut soon. The thinking is that they need every bit of greenery to help with recovery from the summer but in November (when they'll be cut) the leaves will have become redundant. I can't see why the rest of the hedge would drop its leaves; crack on I say Btw I've acquired a couple of nice Acers over the summer; I must update that Acer thread sometime!
  18. Bought one about 9 months ago from the US via Amazon. £118 all in but with no rope as I already have it
  19. They are (mostly) docile aren't they. We've had a couple of dozen in the house over the summer not surprisingly and they've been easy to catch and put back out of a window
  20. Just the one? Pah! - We have this above our bedroom window VID-20220909-WA0007.mp4
