  1. You wouldn't win any work down here with those rates. I'd love to charge that
  2. You would probably need a waste transfer licence. Dunno what that would involve but a doubt it would be straight forward
  3. We contact in for large estates with ground crews. We will normally get big trees down in big chunks for the estate crews to deal with, minimising our time on site. Pics can be mileading but you've got a big drop zone there. I'd be supprised ir there was much standing at the end of the day
  4. Fairly straigh forward. I've seen add on sides they've done for 2 other firms and is OK, does the job and looks smart. He quoted £2500plus for the same as Autolift(includes tipping gear) but I would have had to wait 6 weeks and I didn't have a website to check out finished design. I reccon he's the man I would have gone with except the landy dealer sorted autolift with less hassel
  5. CBS you should try Bovey Tracey van bodies, they priced cheaper than autolift but had a longer order book. I know a few guys that that have been there and have had OK work
  6. I'm getting a 130 converted by those guys right now. I should get it next week. Its £3150 plus vat for chassis cap to tipper with tool box, removeable highsides and barn doors. I'll post a pic next week.
  7. day for 2 guys to fell and chip
  8. Cloning expensive stolen cars and selling them abroad. You swap plates at the ferry port and only run the risk of prosectution for joy riding during 95% of crime time. Either that or lining up dopey drug mules. I haven't given either crime much thought though for at least a few days.
  9. Forget the UK that can wait, go see the world before you get heavy commitments
  10. Sorry these are the ones I meant, not sure if they are made by stretch or not
  11. At it 11 years, since I was 19 except 1 year when I was surfing.
  12. I'm wearing Klima air, last pair gave me 3 years during which time I was freelance and worked 5-6 days a week. Just got the new stetch air boots though and they look the muts nuts
  13. What those guys said. If removing it would leave a big hole in the crown then I would probably just reduce it enough to get some weight of the end
  14. Only if you can spike up spiny poles like this. It was a Poro tree, we called it cucomber tree though as it felt just like one. Very scary to rigg off cos they bend like fishing rods
  15. Thats about what the contract when for. I charge more than that for 2 men but would expect to supply 3 men as FC work will be lots or roadside work. Interestingly I spoke to the guy had the contract for 4 years, he said although he priced each job seperatley eventhough the contract was awarded to him on a fixed man day rate
  16. As a guide I price the same for commercial as domestic if I need to look at the work 1st. If you get good info on what kit you need before hand and you just turn up and do it I charge a bit less as it saves hassel of site visits, quotes and all that
  17. I tenderd for a contract with FC. Price fixed for 4 years. The contract was awarded on price and the winning tender was very cheap. I could PM you more details
  18. We've added overseas work to a Lycetts policy before for short contracts in Romania and Argentina. No real hassel
  19. If its that tricky you could try getting a price for an all terain crane. You might be very suprised with the building industry as it is. I paid £140 for 1/2 a day hire on a 35t on monday.
  20. I used a ground anchor techinque once that was very usefull. We drove 3 large stakes into the ground at 45 degrees (leaning away from the tree). Each stake behind the next. Anchor your wich to the base of the one closest to the tree. You use a ratchet strap to secure the top of the stake to the base of the one behind to stop it getting pulled over. Secure the last stake to your truck. We felled 7 large Scots pine like this and some had hefty leans.
  21. I did a 13K clearence job earlier this year. Was warned about the company during the works and ended up in a battle to get paid. The consultant behind the job called me today to say he's going to county court to get paid by the same firm now. From my experience I would break the job down into sections, say fell 1 large tree and ask for payment before moving onto the next stage. Just make this clear in your revised quote. No one wants to turn down a £2.5k job, just limit your damage if they are crooks.
