  1. Significant decay on that large pruning wound on the main stem. There is a new office complex just to the right of the photos. The tree is laying down new wood, but the phased reduction is in the hope that we can get some weight out reduce stress. Its a very important tree in the local landscape
  2. This is my current challenge. The spec is a 2 phased reduction. The finished reduction reduction in winter 2011/2012 will be 3m from height and reduction of lateral limbs by 3-4m. Each limb is to be pruned only once. The 1st phase was to reduce half of the tree in segments but retain the overall shape and form/ I havent measured it yet, but despite how it looks in the photos it is at the very least 100ft.My 45m rope only took me 2/3 of the way down, I think we took out 2-2.5 tons of material today. Before and after day 1. Its just the side branches on the far side left to prune this year prune
  3. I used a chain saw. I've been wandering for some time about partial ring barking to stress a branch to stimulate newer shoots within a crown to help with phased reductions. Just an idea which I haven'tbeen brave enough to try.
  4. This is one I sometimes use to make notes for individual trees. If its just one tree I would use the info to inform the report rather than include it Tree inspection pro-forma.doc
  5. Check out his guns! I reccon he would just carry Brian's tree home on his shoulders and cut it into coasters
  6. I've ordered the skylotec now so wouldn'tlook at this thread again or I will start to have regrets

My klima air were the 1st boot ever to last me more than 12 months. I got 3 years out of my 1st pair!
  8. I reccon someone messed up pricing that low.We all make mistakes quoting from time to time. I seriously underpriced a reduction on a 100foot plus Oak which I'm now suffering.
  9. I have been long thinking the same thing. In fact I ring barked and semi ring barked some Oak limbs and tops earlier this year on a frature/reduction. I'm back to update the survey in November and I am intersted to see how its looking.
  10. Good Rigging Control System or just you tube it. Takes a bit of getting used to so don't expect to make limbs dance the first time you use it.
  11. I have a 32 inch waist so would I need a size 1 or 2 sequioa?
  12. Sell that chery picker and get one then. I think it was one of the best purchases we made in the last few years
  13. I don't like the look of the main attachment piont on the sequioa. I've always had a sliding d
  14. Every take down is perfect for a grcs. Best thing since sliced bread I recon. My capstans got rust on it these days
  15. Nut comfort is my main concern

  17. Found some large meripilus fb's beside a sweet chestnut today. I think its the 1st time ive seen it on SC. Will get the photos off my phone as soon as it behaves.

  20. I'll be cutting it down for free. The chaps a council tennant and has wanted it down for a long time but can't afford to pay for it. Regardless though I'm still cutting down a healthy tree just for the sake of an ocean view. I feel OK about this as its just a crappy tree, but I wonder how I would feel if it was a nice tree it that spot. Would I offer to fell a nice tree which enhances the look of the whole road just to get my view? I'm not sure.
  21. There is a Leyland Cypress at the end of my road which didn't bother me until the Velux's for my loft conversion went on Monday. I can see all down the estruary and accross town but not out to sea. Needless to say the trees days are numbered. Where do I fit in to this?
  22. Had it about 18 months. One of my guys noticed a small split in the strap on the weekly check Skyhuck
  23. Where can I get a replacement strap for a GRCS? Ours is showing wear and I would like to replace it
  24. get a job, then study further when you can apply theory to experience
