  1. I've done it. Pretty dull but worth doing

    Lol!

At the end have a look at the clip called scrotum
  3. Not sure the height, most likely 25m or a little more judgeing by the length of my rope. Yeah Stu it was Killerton, I took a hanger out of the Cypress exactly a year before this and again in the snow. Its just down the path from all those huge hemlocks we climbed and right beside a Cryptomeria you took snow damage out of. It was a bit of a shame but the tree was full of included unions and formosana isn't a great tree in the UK as the autumn colour never really gets going.
  4. Piont taken David, although following what was a major weight reduction the likely hood of limb failure must have been reduced. This was an LA job. I suspect it was took 3 months from the time it was inspected to issuing the work order to me doing the job. These park trees are likely to be inspected every 6 or 12 months so by the time the Ivy dies off it will be inspection time again. Sometimes away from the road we have severed a percentage of the larger Ivy stems but generally all ivy is severed on roadside trees. In this case there is dense Ivy on other trees in the park so there is still habitat there. I've not paid too much attention to timing of Ivy severing but I guess it could be important particulary for nesting birds as they would be less mobile than bats.
  5. All coronet cuts as I didn't have the time to set up a winch to rip any off. Its a bigger tree than it looks in the photos and some of the limbs at the back are right over the road and lv. We only had half a day shut down. I would have liked to have had more time on these cuts buth this job really didn't allow it As for cuts I tend to bore through to create a hazard beam type cut then release it if it is a lateral large limb. Just a normal slash up on smaller stuff and large uprights. We were asked to sever the Ivy for inspection. We always clear it from ground level to 1.5m so the stem can be examined before the rest dies off.
  6. This is an LA tree and our spec was to reduce it by 5m. I really didn't want to go for a traditional prune as I felt it would end up looking rather topped. We went for a coronet/destructive prune. I've been doing alot of this type for the last 5 or 6 years on Estates but I've havent been brave enough to do it to high profile council owned trees. We had some fairly positive feedback from the public who seemed to get the idea and said they liked the "natural look". What do you guys think?
  7. If you get a traffic management co to do the work it will be trible doing it yourself. You need to fill in a part n form and send it off to dcc. Its not on there web site either ask them for it direct or I can email you one. Takes about 3-4 weeks to go through and its free. I get my lights from Amberon for about 200 a week
  8. I'd say its more likely £100 per tree is what he wants to pay rather than what hes been quoted. Have you seen the 1st quote?
  9. Blowing like mad down here. Call outs every day since saturday so far
  10. I'll give you a shout in the new year then
  11. Is Devon to far? I could have a couple of days for that
  12. I think I did a days work with that guy. He showed us photos he took on his mobile while waiting for the chopper. If its the same guy my mate still has his 020.
  13. I spent day 3 of clearing storm damage taking down the UK's largest Liquidambar formosana. Bad included union split out and one stem was caught up in a 30m+ Cypress, not sure which. I didn't think to take a photos till I got up it. Shot 1 and 2 is before and after I stipped all the free branches. 3 and 4 is looking up and down. I tied off the stem on the left and lowered the right. Lastly carefull lowering to avoid stipping the Cypress bark. The other half of the tree felt a little sketchy climb. We left the pulley up the Cypress and drift lined all the brask as there was another Champion tree beneath that side
  14. Eucy split accross 2 gardens-customers settled in cash but short changed me by £20 and as Ash on a house. Monday will be the day, seen a few La trees roped off not to mention NT

    fly agaric

Or horses. The animals absorb much of the toxins and just leave the good bits in thier pee. Is that not where the story of santa claus and his flying reindeer comes from?
  16. Looking at their clothes I'd say they were pretty recent pictures from North Devon. I doubt there were cameras up there in the 70s either

    Arbphone

They tried to sell me insurance at £6 when I changed my phone. I said no thanks and he offered it for £1. Just ask for it

    Arbphone

Or just get any phone you want and get insurance. Orange just sold e insurance for £1 a month as I like to trash phones
  19. I think I may have considered reducing the left fork harder with the view that the right hand leader may assume dominancy in the long term, rather than a continuation to 2 competing stems. This is assuming there is little risk of the right stem failing. Hard to say without looking at the real thing.
