  1. Stu AC complained about the driving position in his. I think we have a 5 or 6t downrated as its way bigger in the cab than a crap star
  2. Best 3.5t truck I've had and I've had a few(execpt a 130). They drink deisel but are solid and will carry much more than the legal payload
  3. NFU are a funny bunch. Wouldn't give me a quote as I don't already have a policy with them?
  4. I'm motivated by the fact that I regulary go to work and think "wow I can't believe someones paying me to do this" After more than 10 years I still enjoy my job, especially the big trees. I'm also finding it more and more rewarding when guys I have trained from scratch are stepping up and doing well with the less straight forward stuff. It might be hard work buts its never boring.
  5. There you go! Glad it worked out for you. Better than the muddy feild.
  6. We could do with another set of hands from January, at least 3 days a week or to suit. Paye or self employed. Could do with someone next Tuesday 08/12 too PM me
  7. Its not the spines that are the problem its the creepy feel to them. We called them cucomber trees cos if was just like spiking a cucomber. Rigging off them was even worse as the tall ones bend like a fishing rod. Ours were also in a city centre and over razor wire, lovely job.
  8. Wrong farmer. I asked a friendly farmer if I could burn brash on his farm for free 5 years ago. Now I've an acre of land and a 2 story secure unit to use free of charge, Hes sold his cows works with us regularly and makes in excess of £20K from our fire wood. Its just about finding a mutually benificial arrangement
  9. Ed got there first. Do as the man says its the only way. We bought in £300 of scalpings to lay over crushed brick rubble. Worth every penny
  10. We did the woodcrete ones years back and had to them with 2 ropes around a union and tied off on the stem at ladder height so that they could be lowered to the ground to be checked.
  11. You must have better cobblers than me Phenom. I tried with Klimas too>
  12. I wouldn't bother. I tried to get a pair re soled twice by 2 different cobblers. Didn't last a week climbing
  13. I've had the pleasure to climb a few like that
  14. I think I've got some usefull info Stu. I will try to extract it from my melting laptop and email it across
  15. Every things staying on site on this one. Is Exeter too far for you? I've got plenty of other biguns this winter.
  16. I've got a few days work rigging down some big trees in Dorset in the new year and I'm already stretched with work at the moment. I'd rather send up a 2 man crew to work with a decent local contractor if possible Is there anyone who fancys 3 days work? I could use one rf 2 extra ground workers or a climber and a grounds man as there is some other pruning/felling on site too.
  17. Do the rollers turn if you keep the button pushed in? I had one that did that and we just put a small twig behind it to stop it returning all the way. You'll most likely need to put the battery on charge over night every 9 months or so
  18. Could be. It was a few years back and I know the timber went to Cornwall
  19. Tree of Hell (if you've taken down a big one)
  20. So long as you've got a yard beside a bus or train station right?
  21. Went back to fell the big dead tree but I couldn't be bothered to treck up that steep hill. Chopper said they came in good though.
