  1. Thanks for comments. How do I set it so it can be viewed on iPhones?
  2. Yeah its the tree I chicken out of climbing all the way up. I would have had to climb into those tops I felled and rigged out and I just could not get up there. It was soft and brittle like I knew it would be, but it was much more wobbly than I feared it would be.
  3. This was a tall (34m/110ft) twin stemmed northofagus. Tightly included main stems with decay within the union and bark missing. Has been getting worse for several years. I was not familiar with the species and not at all comfortable with with the amount of movement in the stems or the quantity of old tear out wounds. Rigging was kept to a minimum just to avoid smashing the path and other specimen trees. Watch it full screen in hd [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhQYPsMLOfk&context=C44f79d5ADvjVQa1PpcFP7zJxzHQiS0QWYBiU8Kiojz3h5po71yv0=]34m Northofagus dismantle.SRT - YouTube[/ame]
  4. Try adjusting the length of your foot strap, that can make a difference if its too.short. I took down a 34m northofagus this week on my wrench. Srt makes more sense in bigger trees. I can't see myself returning to drt climbing on big trees anytime soon.
  5. Good post tony and thanks. Can't believe you bottled hornets though. If they're just feeding on the tree those thing will just land on you and walk about. Wouldn't want to disturb a nest mind
  6. I guess that sort of work would be worth 120 a man day down here if its fences repairs hedges and brush cutting. Walk some of the paths and get a feel for how much work there is on an average km.
  7. Yeah, it was mutilated. It's reqqly knackered and the client has finally decided to stop hugging it.
  8. This tree is coming back to haunt me. We have to take it down on monday and Im almost looking forward to getting back up there to finish it off once and for all. I hope I win.
  9. Ha. Wasn't quite boabab weather today David. I have a row of horse chestnut to savage tomorrow.
  10. Me and my wife wife watched that at Eddie vedders house with his mum
  11. Ive been doing some tear cuts on some big old beech. I'm trying to rip big pieces out and get a good rip. I like to use this cut when I can as saves a lot of work on the chain saw. I bore i and try to make a hazard beam shaped cut, then release it with the top cut. Is that what other people are doing, or any other tricks for a good rip?
  12. The other side of the Atlantic in downtown Buenas Aires
  13. Saw this on facebook. I the whole idea of people power driving government policies is great. Guys like this literally het away with murder as long as they are not sitting on resources we can exploit. People do ask for help everyday, but if they don't have worth we don't help.
  14. What's the purpose of the metal thimble?
  15. Good job. What did you do with the timber?
  16. You did the job at a fair price. I think we all we all feel we deserve 50 or 100 percent more, but there's just so much competition around here its not going to happen.
  17. Hi marc. I had only been using the wrench for about 3 weeks when I climbed that. It wasn't really a struggle using the wrench just not such great technique on my part. The bits that were tricky were moving through the little shoots and climbing past the big branches the rope was resting against, mid air ascents are much easier. I started with a base tie off at 1st then had it untied. At the top I choked the rope with a running bowline and clipped my throwline into that so I could retrieve it. Not really a great video to show climbing technique, I just thought the tree and location made the video worth sharing. I definately think srt made sense for me on that trip. The whole set up light weight and allowed me to take a shorter, lighter rope. There were 2 other guys climbing but we only had 2 ropes because a lot of our bagage allowance was used taking laptops, gps and laser measures for mapping. Using srt 2 of us could share a rope. Yeah I had a pantin on one foot and a foot loop to the ascender on the other.
  18. Thanks for the video comments. If your interested in climbing in Africa we are thinking of leading a non profit and affordable expeditions from next year. Possibly for 1500 odd quid all in, inc flights and accododation at a 5 star lodge. Email me for info

  19. It was mate. It's.was in the high 30s mid afternoon and we had hiked miles that day with all our kit.
  20. This is a clip of the wrench set up I've been using. Took 6 hours to upload to you tube so watch in HD. Boabab - YouTube
