  1. no, I only used rads there because I was wearing spikes not the pantin. I prefer to limb walk using the 1 to 1 method most of the time. Are you using srt?
  2. It clipped my rope but no big deal. Redirect is simple. A just take a sling and clip, hand ascender with roller attached with a tether. That's all I need to frog walk, 3 to 1 rads or re direct.
  3. You can redirect easy with this system because its just one line. The ascender gave me.a.3 to 1 advantage and tended my hitch so I could pull myself back easily
  4. Your a pair of heathens, the original is still the best. Scotty, pulling that oak back in saved a lot of work. I often end up with ropes running close by one another
  5. They are good. Especially when you need to send the line straight up. Best used with tomatoes.
  6. Ha! The ash split was accidental but the oak needed to cleave to clear the wires. It was a standard rigging job that I wouldn't have bothered filming other than using the wrench. I love the wrench, not sure how much of that is down to novelty. The go pro is much better quality but takes.ages to edit. The battery life is terrible too. Good tool though.
  7. Ash take down using my rope wrench. Ive been using the wrench for a month, but this is the 1st rigging job using it. Its also the first time I have tried to edit using my gopro. Not my favourite video but please feel free to comment anyway. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDWjNqxLybU&context=C3876847ADOEgsToPDskLZoC62cQ2I5LfAPo7g0Y9h]ASH - YouTube[/ame] Its shot in HD. Not sure how to enable it to play on phones either.
  8. I would be there in a flash, couldn't care less what the moneys like. My wife has said no way and she would be more dangerous too piss off than any militia.
  9. I climbed srt on the rope.wrench but it didn't damage the bark climbing normally. It's tough enough to stand up to the hot sun so I doubt a rope would do much harm. I did lighty grill then sand some seeds a few years back. just trying a few now by dropping them in a glass of water until they crack. Not sure what to.do.
  10. Soft and leathery. I got a load of seeds I'm going to try to bonsai
  11. Some more cool things Ive seen recently. 1, 2 and 3 = Boababs 4 = Sacred Silk Cotton tree 5 = Hard wood timber stack. 6 and 7 = Gallery forest climbing and sunset seen from jungle canopy
  12. Gambia, I have some ongoing work down there and looking to start another project next year. The wrench was very usefully to travel with as I could take a shorter rope and have the climbing flexibility of srt without having.to pack too much kit.
  13. I have some footage of using the wrench too climb big trees in Africa I want to edit.
  14. I'm using 11mm blaze and like it. Reduced some 35m beech today. When descending my cord was heating up. I clipped a bight though my d ring and spare crab. Descended on that and the wrench and hardly used the knot. It also stopped.all that slime from the rope pooring down my sleaves in the rain.
  15. Maybe Tony but the bark is harvested to make rope so it could be scaring instead. I'm only just learning about these trees
  16. Some cool faces I saw painted on Baobabs last week
  17. Ian. I don't have a lj so use a hitch. I got mine running very smoothly. Very pleased with it
  18. I can retreive the rope with a top or bottom tie off easily, if its a straight pull. The trouble I have is that because its srt I am not always coming down straight. Kind of defeats the object of using all these re directs when the rope gets stuck at the very end. I guess picking the routes that work well and allow easy return of the rope is all part of the learning curve.
  19. Both Peter. I was wandering how it would perform with 2 guys hanging on it.
  20. Well I've been climbing on the wrench for a month now. A lot of the problems I first encountered I'm begining to iron out. Using a free running hitch works really well. I was working with another climber today who pointed out that I climb the tree rather than the rope. I think if your new to climbing or use your rope a lot you might struggle to adjust. With a free running hitch I don't find any trouble leaving the wrench attached and climbing drt. Moving around the tree is much easier. Returning from limb walking is no problem, infact I find it easier as there is less slack to tend as the system is 1 to 1. The one element I am struggling with a bit is line retrival. After dropping through forks all funny ways it can be hard to pull your rope out. All in I get the feeling that I will be sticking with this system for a while. Very glad a bought one What I am interested in knowing is the industry/insurance stance on srt as reg points out. Also I would like to find out more about implications of and techniques for rescue using the wrench.
  21. If you just climb up a tree drt, with just short hops between branches you can leave the wrench on. Feels similar to when we used to put pulleys under a blakes. hitch in the olden days
  22. Were those the closest books to hand at the time?
  23. Did you just copy that from a book called one hundred and one useless facts?
  24. But what are the real ethics of modernity? Greed, gain, consume. The modern world I see is driven by money and power. When enslaving people through physical power became rather politically incorrect we choose to do it in a more subtle way. “Here third world country, borrow this money to improve your infrastructure and pay us back with interest. Oh your economy has not grown as much as we forecast and you cant pay the money back let alone the interest. Never mind, let our companies mine your minerals and extract your oil. We will be able to do it very cheaply because your population are poor and will work for nothing. Now we can still plunder your resources and utilise near slave labour.” Where’s the ethics there? I do not mean to imply I'm right and your wrong here, but my experiences have lead me to have a differing opinion. And as it happens I will be in Africa next week and I'm hoping to visit a Marabou (Witch Doctor). When I do I will chew a frog for you and ask him his opinions on the real ethics of modernity. Rant over, Ive got work to do
