  3. i could sell you a 300 quid pair of boots that you will need to fit them onto, dont scrimp and scrape on the things that keep you alive. i will sell you a pair of hard leg bashlins for 100quid if you want nugs
  4. i was thinking about this today, its a bit unfair to presume so much about the boss, we might be hearing a one sided story. you might even be totally useless mate and the guy is doing you a favour and just hasnt the heart to lay you off. personally if i have a grievance i take it up with the person involved, that is what you have to do. even if it makes you nervous or even a bit scared you have to for your own sake. whats the worse that can happen?. if you have bills to pay and loans from the bank, that is your problem, no one elses. i went self employed when i was 23. if you find excuses not to move on or man up, its your problem so live with it. forget he is the boss, i dont care if someone is a boss,a mate, a millionaire or a tramp. i treat every one with respect and i expect it back.

  14. they invoice me, i send a cheque. the quicker the invoice the quicker the cheque
  15. if there is nothing else going and you need the money, then you just need to tough it out or walk mate. it is easy to see the boss is the big bad ogre, but if he hasnt much work and cant afford to pay you much then its better than nothing. i dont see any point of going to citizen advice unless you are going to chuck your job and try and sue him, i cant see him keeping you on if he gets a phone call from your free lawyer. and if you want the hassle of court and tribunals then on you go. personally if you are working for less than 6k a year i think you are nuts, just call him up have it out with him , then tell him to shove it. if you dont you will let people walk over you all your life. whats to say your next employer wont see your weaknesses and take advantage of you as well
  16. nice one angus, get it off your chest, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh:scared1:now if it had been about a tree surgeon, that would of been a totally different story:001_tt1:
  17. the woodturners will be queing up mate, good size. i have come across some big ones myself. usually fighting for light with younger trees around them, i have done some around the 40feet mark, max about 2 feet across the base. heavy as hell. beautiful wood. shame you lost it

  19. tommy tommy he is the man, if he cant do it no one can:001_tt1:
  20. i struggled to find work when i first wanted to get into tree surgery, i had done felling in the woods and hacked away at plenty trees around the edge of fields for farmers. i owned my own climbing kit and used to play in the woods every night until it was dark practising. i applied for a job and said i was experienced. first day i go dropped off with a jcb to fell 50 pops in a car park. job done, second day got left to section out 20 more pops at the side of a college. bricked myself all day, had to go to the bog a few times but got it done. with in 3 months i was in charge of the squad as lead climber. i didnt drag nowt, i was the tree killing machine that got sent infront of the kit to get it on its arse. lasted another 3 months chucked it and started myself and never looked back. if you are scared up a tree you will hang on pretty tight. if you have what it takes, ask the boss for the job sheet and go, work your nuts off and just get on with it. adrenaline and nerves is great. no point going to college to drag branches and make tea mate if you ask me.
  21. it all depends how hard you want to work and what amount of risk you are willing to take in business and how good you really are. folk will talk down mogs saying they cost a fortune and how can they be justified, some folk wont buy a 2k transit tipper thinking its a bit risky. there are different levels of any industry. i took the jump 7 years ago and borrowed 25k when i was 26 years old, i didnt own a house and lived in a tin shack. i thought i had talked about it long enough and just went for it. i paid that back under a year, yes i had breakdowns and bills, and grief i didnt expect, you go from being a climber to gaffer/mechanic/labourer/secretaty/accountant/dogs body etc. but it can be done, but you have to put the hrs in. so i sold that kit and borrowed another 50k(880 quid a month) it hasnt been easy but now it is all bought and paid. now i have a wife and 2 kids, i am glad i put the graft in when i was younger/fitter and a lot keener. if you want something go for it, i never had any work for my mogs when i bought them, i just bought them. this isnt a dress rehearsal, we get one chance of life(as far as i know) so make the most of it. i still get a kick out of driving into the yard and seeing the mog and valmet there. and that buzz drives you on to work hard and keeps me motivated.
  22. if its off road then you can do what you want i reckon:001_smile:
