  1. well had to dig out an old prussik and climb up the tree to get my stuck ropeguide and throwline. i thought i would try and lower the ropeguide as well just incase it got snagged. but that was a right pita and got tangled and stuck:mad1:. so duked up old school quicker than it took me to put the throwbag in originally. deadwooded the next oak with just a prussik, and wished i had the hc/vt. it was full of big limbwalks and re routing. it is like anything, experience and deciding when to use different techniques.
  2. hard work and honesty is the best advert you could ever get. if you aim for a few quid that is all you will get, aim high and you will get there. call nfu, get insurance, get a pick up/van/trailer sign write it and start spreading the word you are looking for business. work weekends, work nights. speak to the bank and open an account, they will give you 1 years free banking and a cheque book. dont make up some fancy arby catchy name, use your own name and be proud of it, just seeing your name on the vehicle will give you motivation and inspiration to work hard. if you have been a groundy for 10 years you should know the job inside out by now. go for it. you are only 28.
  3. costco:ohmy:nice one, i need a new set. best price i was given last year was 2.5k plus vat. i better get a costco card:001_smile:

  9. chicks dig braces and there is plenty of money to be made in tree surgery aaron oh and unimogs are cool:001_cool:
  10. i have read loads of posts about the vt on diferent threads and i could never work out how some things worked for some and not others. now i get it. i have some new cord from jus to try out, i have 2 oaks to deadwood tomorrow so i will try it out. there is a burn under them so i will put on my waterwings
  11. just as the hedgehog breeding program is picking up, some idiot blows up a 3 turrit bouncy castle. bill oddie wil be round soon. but i bet he reverts back to his goodie days and has a wee play. is has been re stitched on the starboard side i see
  12. i always have a lean back and a bit of a bounce to get it gripping, it was the first time using a ropeguide, and i just thought coming down quicker must have created a lot more friction and worn the cord. i just took my eye off the ball me thinks
  13. it sure is, peter follows him arround for the corks for his spikes. dean is around somewhere playing in the mog:001_cool:
  14. chains mate, the sausages are on his other thread, behind the carnival wheel:001_smile:
  15. i have never seen a bouncy castle with 3 turrits before, it is definately in cornwall then. i think i can see france in the distance:001_cool:
  16. thanks, i tried that mate, i like to be able to adjust the length, i found the sling a bit of a pain when it wasnt in use. i like the way i have things set up just now, it was just a bit scary today. once i mucked abnout for 5 mins i was away again. it was just the ' what if' factor that i havent had in my head for years. it probably isnt a bad thing, a wee wake up call to be double carefull:001_smile:
  17. i was looking in the wrong part of the screen. i would class that as pretty darn massive mate, i like the bouncy castle mate. is it yours?
  18. its hard to tell from that photo, but those feet in the sandles are huuuuuuuuuuge:scared1:
  19. footlocking is fine on a straight up nothing in the way ascent, doing it while bouncing off the trunk is a pain imo. dumbell it is:001_cool:
  20. if you have good books then youshould get a loan. when i went for my first loan 9 years ago, i needed a meeting with the bank manager and my books, it was only because he knew how hard i worked that he ok'd it. 2 years ago there was no question, they just threw money at us, dangled the carrot so to speak. look where that got the world. hope you get what you need blackthorn, get a business plan made up to back you up, make yourself look more inviting:001_smile:
  21. i dont own any mr muscle, maybe you could lend me one:001_tongue:
  22. i reckon if i attach a small pulley to a 5 kg dumbell and feed my rope through it and back onto my harness the rope will self tend, as i go up the rope will go down, and when i need to re route i can pull it up and lower it back down. simples:001_cool:
  23. Knute, that is what i was using, worked better than the other variations i had tried. moral is just check check check. dont let it put you off mesterh, it is just wierd when you have climbed one way for about 12 years to try a new method. it is like starting again. i worked for another hour after that dead wooding an oak and the ropeguide/hc combo was excellent. the only reason i came down out the tree in the first place is because i knew how easy it would be going back up:ohmy:
  24. i cant get the rope to self tend unless there is at least 40 feet below me, i dont like the arm over arm, hold on take up the slack idea. is it possible to get it too self tend from the ground?
