  1. This type of thing. Cambium to cambium of the two stems. There would have to be enough flexibility in the scions between the points where they're pinned to the stock.
  2. Keep visualising some bridge grafts across that stem. I wonder if the scions were cut long enough and with some flex to counteract the movement between the stems it would work?
  3. They're going to be back though. Glad you disturbed them.
  4. You going to do the trails on a Fergy then:001_smile:
  5. That bike is never that old. The steering head and forks are much later and the bars aren't right. Good story though. Front tyre appears hard because it's solid rubber.
  6. The dog and I are sitting up tonight. I know it's unlikely they'll be back tonight but I can't relax. Tomorrow I'll be beefing things up.
  7. Cheers guys. Dog deserves a slap up meal and he'll get one:001_smile: Only a springer so not sure he'd have taken a bite out of him but he took chase.
  8. So would the logical evolution of this be a grapple with a saw? Harvester head type. Smaller pieces but no climbing.
  9. Saws etc are in the kitchen now:001_smile:
  10. Got there just in time. Three other saws were still inside so they must have been stacking them up ready. Just seen a white van pull up in the road (4am) but he drove off as I looked out of the window. New locks and an alarm now I reckon.
  11. Fell asleep on the settee tonight and was woken up by the dog barking at 2.30am. I heard something outside and opened the door to see some bloke coming out of my garage and his accomplice at the bottom of the drive. I and the dog took after him with me going flying over three saws on the concrete. I heard him scramble over the fence with the dog jumping at him. Have scoured the area armed with a billhook:001_smile: Probably not the wisest thing to do! No signs or noises of cars etc. Anyway police have been and had a look and now I'm sitting here hyped up and nursing two very bloody knees.
  12. I hope they can sleep at night.
  13. I was shown that by fallers over 30 years ago. It works.
  14. If you find steel wedges want to slip out then dig a bit of soil out with one and get that into the cut.
  15. Just burnt some two year seasoned leylandii and I couldn't get near the stove. Will be keeping all I get.
  16. I used to do some climbing work for some fallers. Occasionally, when I needed a bigger saw, they'd send up one of their 051s. The cutting performance of them was unbelievable. On a half worn chain you had to physically hold them back they were so fast and aggressive. All down to their sharpening technique.
  17. Lovely and the silver sets it off. Think best quality sidelock plates in figured walnut.
  18. Run it in like a new dirt bike....ride it like you stole it. Going steady ends up glazing bores and rings and ending up with lower compression.
  19. All of the oriental plane I know exhibit similar trunks but there again I don't know all orientalis.
  20. Ideal if you have even stacks of cord for firewood. Few quids worth there.
  21. Take a look at some of the better bags designed for carp fishing. Plenty of room.
  22. [QUOTE=Eddy_t;836149]Patience comes with age, much YOU have appeared to have gained since the 1st post... Where as I am youthful and have less of a concept of it As for tree time, nobody has the mentality or conception to fathom this properly, only by looking at what is already done can we get a rough idea of what we aim for Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App Ah but you will. I occasionally take a look at a tree I worked on maybe 25 yrs prior just to see how it's getting on or not:001_smile: Take a look at old pollards. Only by understanding what's in the past may we understand what's in the present. Sorry about that. It's the wine and the woodstove that caused it:001_smile: Good beech reduction.
