  1. They did look big trees. They're certainly big limes now. Looking at the shots I wasn't sure they were the same trees but if they weren't then that would date the present trees as 100ish years old. These old shots are fascinating.
  2. Found these. Two limes locally. First pic is a tinted photo from 1905.
  3. I'd say the bands were placed to prevent the stem splitting. Which may, or may not, have been necessary. Seems to have been done on a regular basis at one time.
  4. Lovely shots. The oak looks as though it has bands around it. Could that lime possibly be a wych elm?
  5. Been to the Red Marley a couple of times. Nice to see those old machines thundering up the hill. It's the last bit that catches them:001_smile:
  6. Yes. It's a good one to master. I started gas welding and it's similar. Excellent if you want to start welding ali but the equipment is expensive for that. To the op: if you're buying mig make sure the amps will drop to about 30 or you'll struggle with car body panels.
  7. Fantastic thread. Any more?
  8. I love a challenge at a hill on a dirt bike but this is mental:001_smile: Poor guy's bike @ 10m [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PvJBC42DuY&list=FL3mP0ME6oHx6Ew6wSJoCxxg&feature=mh_lolz]Hill Climb Andler 2010 - Die besten Abgänge - YouTube[/ame]
  9. Spent the first ten years of cutting with saws that didn't have chain brakes so I tend not to use them much. What does annoy me are all these NPTC trained guys clunking chain brakes on all the time. It's there in the event of kickback not each time you move two yards.
  10. I love the sound of flatpicking along with a good fiddle player. Bluegrass stuff. Union City Station are awesome. Not sure I'm happy with the sound of the Mariner. Also having problems finding a good right hand position to damp the strings. Time will tell.
  11. Blackthorn will end up twenty feet wide if you let it.

I had that one and from older coppers it was Geoff Duke:001_smile:

I was refering more to its popularity amongst the general public as a spectacle. The rider most people would name apart from Rossi has to be Sheene who popularised the sport in his day.

To whoever penned that Her time in office was the last time any of us should have been proud to be British.

I think Rossi has been the best thing for gp for a long time. If you look at Lorenzo and Stoner: brilliant riders but no charisma or personality. Compare it to snooker and Steve Davies compared to White and Higgins. Davies was a brilliant player but lacking charisma compared to the other two. Rossi is what the people want and the next one coming through to fill that gap is Marquez now that Simoncelli's gone.
  17. Don't apologise. I meant mine weren't in the same class:001_smile: Perversely the guitars that are held in high esteem by players who want to capture that original blues sound are the original Stellas. Made in their thousands and sold cheaply. No truss rod and twisted necks. Now sold for a fortune.
  18. No flatpicker but a fingerpicker. Blues and rag stuff. Was going to put pics of mine amongst all this electric stuff but not in the same class. Very old Fender acoustic and my latest parlour size Mariner amongst a motley collection.
  19. Wow:thumbup1:

Margaret Thatcher can be classed in the same rank as Churchill and Atlee. I doubt we'll ever see their likes again.

If Rossi hadn't made that mistake at the start then I reckon he'd have been giving Lorenzo a run..assuming there's no team orders.
  22. Respect. She made good decisions as well as less good decisions. It's a pity some of our namby-pamby, limp-wristed liberal lot we have now haven't got the balls she had.
  23. Hit my thumb on cut and chuck reduction once with no real damage luckily and once dropped 200T across my thigh on a takedown in an awkward position. Trousers saved the day. Could have been avoided by better positioning etc.
