    I know of a gravley going cheap, think its a 5inch, possibly 6inch machine. Looks abit tatty, but works just aswell as any of these newer chippers, about 2.5k i think.

    Takes hardly anything to blunt a saw mate, and its better to put 2/3 strokes every now and again instead of waiting for it to blunt completly, your only talking about 2mins to touch up 18inch guide bar

    Has the timber been skidded or winched out of a woodland area? If it is your chain probably stay sharp so long because of mud and grit on the wood.

    Exactly the same here mate, they used to hate me for it! lol Bet your grandad could teach you a thing or two about sharpening chains

    I just sharpen free hand, no file guide. Once you get used to it its just so much easier than carrying around stump vices and guides. Just check your sharpening to the correct angle and everything

    Ours became slippy becaue of moss and slime ontop, pressure washed it off and hey presto, not only did it come out like new but wasnt slippy anymore.

    Gave up with trying to split elm by hand at work, goes straight on the log splitter pile now. Shreks right though, i always work the edges when splitting, once you get the first piece off it sometimes seems to split easier.

    just stick it out mate and get your hours done, then move onto another firm if your not happy where you are.

    Most work placements through colleges dont pay at all, this is the case at my college anyway. I think 40 is fine if your providing your own saw and travelling a fair distance, at least your covering costs.

    Ive lost the buzz, works quiet just moping around the yard doing firewood most the time, had a few fruit tree pruning jobs but there nothing special. Had some work come in though to a guy a sub to, my first decent sized reduction and a big take down, hopefully that will get me buzzing again.

    Well you can get solid fuel rayburns so i assume you can aga's aswell. My boss has a solid fuel rayburn, its very good!

    It wouldnt, if the tree had that then it would be coming down pretty quickly! (subject to target area ofcourse) Try convincing clients around here to pay for decay dectection when its generally obvious with the aid of a VTA and a tap with the mallet that the tree is nackered and there going to have to pay for it to come down anyway.
