  1. Hi all, I have been involved in running a SHAD event with the HSE in Exeter this week and wondered if anybody on here had attended either an Arb or a Forestry day? I saw from another thread that Monkeyd had been to the Arb day in London but has anybody else? If so, what did you think? What were the good and bad points? What did you enjoy, what could you do without? Was it pitched too high, too low or just at the right level? What did you learn? Feedback after the event greatly appreciated... Thanks!
  2. Just wondering what you all think about the Husq 357xp chain speed and PPE issues, if indeed you've heard anything at all? All thoughts / comments welcome
  3. Might be worth considering Dothistroma septosporum although I've never heard of it on Austrian Pine... doesn't mean its not the culprit though!
  4. I think you're referring to this but not sure its what you're after... http://www.forestry.gov.uk/PDF/fcin12.pdf/$FILE/fcin12.pdf You might wish to try the CAVAT handbook ( London Tree Officer's Association - Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT) )or the Helliwell system handbook - both contain estimated life expectancy for tree species.
  5. I've recently changed jobs and spent an hour rooting round in the new places store today. Guess what... I stumbled across a tree bicycle tucked away at the back of some shelving, the very set that is in the pictures below it seems! I'll dust them off and have a play...
  6. Is anyone going to the rigging research document launch / demo event Treevolution are running in Beddgelet on the 16th of March?
  7. It came down pretty well in Gloucester, nearly lost my van in a car park! I'm glad I didn't try to drive up Birdlip Hill - I heard it was carnage up there!
  8. Not exactly answering your question but this may be of use... http://www.oca-arb.co.uk/pub/june2005.pdf
  9. Love it... like the other guys say, pic 3 is a winner mate!
  10. Is this any use? NEXT CS38 Course - Blake Training
  11. I'm technically going to be unemployed for 15 days over the Christmas period and am looking forward to it immensely!

    Acenders

Do you mean back to back with the handles together or handles apposed? I think I'd prefer to have somewhere comfortable to put each hand but haven't played about with setup yet.
  13. I'd be more worried about the size of the bottom Krab'. Treewizard, can the wooden toggle fit through the lower Krab? If it can then it could get stuck open! Apologies if you already know about this... Page 28: http://www.climb-art.com/english/download/lockjack/BED_LJ_A5_english.pdf

  15. You know what they say... even a broken clock tells the righ... just kidding! It's nice to see some honest recognition of potential as well as some willingness to participate for the good of those to follow us rather than jumping on the 'students are rubbish' bandwagon. Well done Andy. I always think it's such a shame that a few poor students give the rest of them a bad name - a negative attitude from those in a position to help out can really stifle what could be fantastic careers. Sure, you will always get some wasters but the better guys find it so difficult to get a foot in the door and gain the all important experience. It just goes to show that you never know what a bloke's like without giving him the chance to impress you.
  16. Going for a footlock record there?! Looks like an amazing location. Maybe this link will cut out the facebook detour... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2bWngrpr4Y]YouTube - 03D Mt Wellington Final DAY 6[/ame]

    forks

We used to call them 'Beet Forks', as in sugarbeet... great for moving chip about. Is this the thing? 6 Prong Ball End Beet Fork - Ash Barrel Crutch T Handle
  18. Its today! Be there or be....
  19. There have been instances where P. cactorum and P. citricola have caused bleeding cankers on HC but, following increased study, it is now thought that most bleeding canker on HC is caused by the bactreria Pseudomonas syringae pv. aesculi. Pseudomonas bacteria affect a wide range of hosts and cause a wide range of symptoms - as do Phytophthora species (the irish potato famine was caused by P. infestans). Maybe these pages will help... Forest Research - Bleeding Canker of Horse Chestnut - Diseases with similar symptoms
  20. The number of infected sites and species is increasing... Forestry Commission - News - tree disease outbreaks confirmed in devon, cornwall and somerset
  21. What a shame.
  22. No, sorry... just the stalls.
  23. Yes, Laserace Hypsometer as well. Its what we used when measuring trees for the Tree Register (TROBI) and then compared laser heights against climbed heights - it was usually with 0.5 to 1m, even on a 200' tree - you have to calibrate and set it up properly though and get best results from a tripod. Have never really used the other features - must have a proper play sometime.
  24. On Tuesday the 24th of November, from 9am to 4pm, we'll be playing host to our annual trade fair. All are welcome to come along and grab a bargain and the best thing is... its free entry! Retailers will be: # Winchester Garden Machinery # Honey Brothers # Treeworker # Sorbus International # Richmond Ground Care Head for SO21 2NF and park in the student carpark - see Sparsholt College Hampshire - Home for location / parking details.
