Agreed. Families still at war over a simple thing like having a vote. I think the country would have supported the miners much more if the strike had been democratic rather than autocratic. Dreadful times nevertheless.
  5. and in the round rather than machined?
  6. My blackcurrant is so full of muck that the keyboard is playing up. Tough Builders Mobile Phones - Waterproof and Dustproof phones from JCB, Samsung and SonimYour thoughts on the Galaxy or C3350 appreciated
  7. I take your point about the image it portrays but it suits me fine as, whilst they are weighing in metal, it saves me waking up to find a tipper load of "prunings" in a gatehole:

I've heard another day of venom being spat across the airwaves. What I don't understand was that if MT really did pull the rug from under the working class why is it that in the 10 years Mr Anthony Charles Lynton Blair was in charge did all this 'oppressive' anti union legislation not get unpicked? Perhaps it is an inconvenient truth that all parties accepted that it had to be done but no one else had the balls.
  9. We split a bag of seed spuds (£17.50!) between 3 of us: Mine still haven't sprit yet, one other have sprit and they are now in the ground and the other has them in the ground and showing (and is having to protect them from the frosts). Just shows how it is not an exact science. I had three of four giant tomato plants damp off as well (overwatering - my fault) so this year is looking good already.

Me too. How about an Arbtalk tour!
  12. So if ash was the best and sycamore 2nd best, what would be the third best species to plant for firewood coppice?
  13. Jon, Is this what you mean? We call ours a bomb trolley. Available but in Lancashire so probably no good to you.
  14. Not there anymore and warnings posted out by ebay to all bidders
  15. How about an arbtalk only biggest pumpkin out of a growbag competition? I need to declare an interest straight away but thought it might be fun. Giant Pumpkin Seed - Try and grow a record breaking heaviest pumpkin with our top pedigree giant pumpkin seeds
  16. Just to be clear it isn't necessarily the physical plumbing that is anything other than simple, it is the setting up.... and that can have you demented very quickly. Conventional central heating rules need to be forgotten if you want your thermal store to be anything other than 1500 ltrs of luke warm water whizzing around the system. I am sure any plumber who perseveres will get there in the end but do you really want to pay an hourly rate for his/her learning. If they have a few installs similar to what you are planning under their belt it will save a lot of expensive head scratching!

    Willow

oh I forgot.... mulching willow did not work for me. It promoted mass rooting near the surface (presumably at the expense of the established deeper roots) and the whips became unstable and fell over. Everything was cut up and replanted so nothing wasted but (for me) mulching was a disaster.

    Willow

I spray off a 2ft strip prior to the intitial planting and do nothing more. Alder is doing best, silver birch second best and the willow is OK but not yet producing the diameter of logs that were hoped for. The ash is obviously doomed but I am just hoping I can get a first cut before die back strikes. The trial continues!
  19. Yes you can but it must appear on the books of both 'businesses' ie the business based in the yard AND the property rental business you have created. Being a sole trader is not a problem. Owning both is not a problem. Your accountant will advise as to whether it is advantageous to your personal circumstances.
  20. A quick read of Sustainable heating using wood fuel at Coed Cae B&B, North Wales might be worthwhile. Nothing is ever as straightforward as the theory might suggest and if your plumber thinks it is easy, then ask how many he has done before and/or ensure you are fixed price.
  21. If the Renewable Heat Incentive is important to your installation please be aware that DECC / DEFRA have announced their intention to impose severe emissions limits on all RHI boiler installations (before March 2013?). Boilers that currently comply with the Clean Air Act, or that already have Smokeless Zone exemption certificates, will not necessarily comply. The real problem is that the manufacturers don't yet know what the new standards will be or how they will be measured so take any sales pitch with a big pinch of salt. So, if you want to get a new RHI compliant boiler.... take your time browsing all the indoor and outdoor wood boiler manufacturers (a good list is here Wood gasifying boilers, Wood fired boilers, Log Boilers, Wood Pellet Boilers and Biomass Boilers: UK Stockists and Installers) and then apply for the RHI BEFORE parting with any cash for the boiler.
  22. Without Jeremy Kyle and an inability to process winning scratchcards I'm surprised he thinks half the population could last a week.
  23. We had a go but left it full of water for a month. When we emptied it ready to cut it still reeked of gas so we filled it up with water again and cut it with the water in. More likely to be electrocuted than blown up but at least it wouldn't damage the shed.
  24. Repeatedly spending hundreds without any tangible return is just crazy unless you feel that seeding some form of brand recognition is worth the cost. I would ask... What do YOU do with any leaflets that come through your door? Why would you think your leaflet would be treated any differently? How do you find a local service provider? If you were new to the area, how would you get a couple of quotes from tradesmen? As you already have a website you can easily assess the impact of any campaign by assessing the changes in traffic, the sources of the traffic and of course the one that matters, the change in volume of business done. In my book business comes from 1) Repeat business 2) word of mouth 3) Internet search (geo based) 4) Local publications (Parish magazines, Village websites etc) 1 & 2 are self explanatory and 3 is easily addressed. It is such a specific trade there is no good reason at all why a search for "tree stump removal Warwickshire" should not have you on the front page of google. No need for adwords just a bit of fine tuning.
