  1. Silky was such a treat for hazel coppice after years of doing battle with the bow saw frame. Don't suppose it matters much if you are taking down the whole lot but for selective cutting it made life so much easier.
  2. Trailer with hiab which can take 6 bulk bags at a push. Nose weight could be an issue but Landcruiser hides it well.
  3. I bought two sets from Lidl first time around. Still using first set without any problems at all despite the abuse they get. The battery door is taped on as it fell off of easily if knocked but that is it. Bargain!

Chieftan Main Battle Tank looks good with only 1500 miles. Should pull the chipper nicely
  6. If the papers are to be believed, the UK was down to its last 8 hours of gas this year and London had less than 3 days food stocks when the roads were blocked with snow. I wonder how the theoretical values of urbanisation will hold up when we have 25m cold and hungry people demanding to know why it all went wrong.

  9. Personally speaking, I would not float them right justified. The distance from the main body could be limited or move them eslewhere (header or footer would suit). I would be concerned about adding duplicate external links so I wouldn't put them on the right and the bottom. Device dependent style sheets will be advocated by many but unless you have very good reason (and very deep pockets) it is far easier to do a 'one size fits all' with only very minor sacrifices.
  10. I really like the background. Great (and appropriate) visual setting for the theme and the colour scheme chosen. Like the logo but it could be bigger on the header Like the layout; easy to read. If you can, I would put the social media links in the footer rather than floating to the right. OK on a phone but they are drifting off too far on a widescreen. There are a couple of potential html 5 conformance issues but I wouldn't worry about it at this stage. Just remember to validate it when you get to your final version.
  11. I grew up in a corporate environment and thought it was the dogs wotnots but it was only when I first got inside some SME's that I realised just how hard it is for the small businessman. No HR Dept, no legal advice on tap, no commercial dept, no finance dept... just 'the boss' taking decisions that could hit him in the pocket daily. That takes some doing and deserves a lot more respect than is often given. I am happy now with a small farm, a small woodland, a small log business and just sorting the odd web job to keep my hand in as things move forward. My company car is a lot older than it used to be but it is still a Merc.... an MB Trac.
  12. No problem. Just my twopenneth. You have it covered but others with less know how may benefit. Head of IT for a FTSE100 before leaving to set up on my own in 2001 so a little bit of experience.... but I wouldn't know where to begin dismantling a tree! Horses for courses.
  13. Here is an example for all to ponder.... Local business trundling along with 6 month old website getting a consistent 25 hits per day most of which were new customers. Bloke down the pub told him all about SEO. See if you can guess when google decided there was a nasty smell. FYI the website was reinstated to the original code to no avail. Judge, Jury and Executioner. Be careful out there!
  14. Doing it for the benefit of your customers is a worthy cause which, in turn, will benefit your business in the best possible way. I personally feel that such thinly veiled coding of websites for SEO at the expense of both the above sends the wrong message to customers. If you think such a cunning plan will outsmart google in the long run then you will be disappointed and it can cause harm if the algorithms decide you are cheating - a website which has got a black spot from google is more or less scrap. For a variety of reasons another thing disliked by google is spelling mistakes. Better to wait and get it right rather than rush it, get a low ranking and then try and recover. By all means try and dabble in the black arts but my advice would be that well written focused text specifically about your services will always prevail in the end - benefiting your business for the long term!
  15. A generic problem with putting 'News' on a website is that it quickly isn't news so unless you are prepared to maintain two news boxes with interesting, topical and timely info I would think again. To be honest they appear to be more to serve SEO than your customers - 'Why it’s best to use professionals when cutting back trees in Essex' a tad blatant don't you think?
  16. Around here you would be lucky to find a runner for less than £900 and half decent (relatively speaking) will be £1200
  17. How to fill up a ton bag with a bearcat chipper
  18. Just moved from BT a month ago. Taking into account each 'introductory offer' on the table and concentrating on how much it would cost for 12 months for line rental, unlimited broadband and inclusive calls ... Talk Talk were the cheapest (approx £160 If I remember) Plusnet were next at around £230 The best BT could offer even as I left was over £400 Reading up it seemed that the Talk Talk contract allowed them to restrict bandwidth at peak times (is that a problem?) but the biggie was customer service. I read it that if it worked it was a good service but if you had a problem then it was a nightmare. Too much of a risk for me so I went with Plus.net. Transition was fine and everything very straightforward with no problems at all. Found out after that BT owns plus.net but is running it at arms length (at present).
  19. A few manufacturers and their locations are listed here Mobile Field Shelters and Mobile Stables for sale; Field shelter manufacturers and Suppliers
  20. Don't know if it is relevant to you but it may be important to go back to the planning stage and make a conscious choice between planting woodland or planting coppice. Woodland is exempt from SPS where as Coppice is included as an acceptable energy crop. Land use code PC2 (which now includes the old EC1 code). If you want to keep the SPS on the land then it would be wise to restrict your choice of trees to those which DEFRA have deemed acceptable coppice energy crops. SPS 2013 Land Use codes FAQ "8. If I’m growing Short Rotation Coppice, what species can I use to claim? The list of eligible species in England is: Alder (Alnus) Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) Birch (Betula) Hazel (Corylus avellana) Hornbeam Lime (Tilia cordata) Poplar Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) Willow The maximum harvest cycle (the period between harvests) is 20 years." Just a thought.
  21. Ore. timber country ponders future with fewer logs
  22. Despite how heavy they are I can see why they bolt them down. They were much easier to manouver than I thought they would be. 3 lengths of 1" steel pipe and a crowbar and you can get them into (and presumably out of!!!) the tightest spaces.
  23. Not at this location. But every time I come on Arbtalk someone else seems to have lost their kit. These came along at handy money so it seemed daft to miss the opportunity.
