  1. I totally agree Ian. It's more of an issue now than it's ever been.
  2. I've looked at that mate. Certainly doable, but a right fanny-on, and would increase the length of the shaft more than I'd want to. Ratman, I need something that locks the machine onto the truck. Locking the coupling on it's own is pointless, one ratchet strap and it's away. The response from @Timberwolf Official on this has been about as good as the response from Husqvarna as to the availability of the 550 mk2 XPG.
  3. Unfortunately not mate. I have a clash with a mates 50th. Thames riverboat trip. It’s been nice knowing you....
  4. Nicely squeezed in there mate. How’s the back?
  5. This is a bloody nightmare. No one can offer a single lock that will lock this p.o.s. coupling onto a 50mm ball. Basically I’ve got a £13k+ investment protected by a titchy little brass barrel lock that costs under a fiver. Any self respecting pikey could have it away in about 5 seconds with a claw hammer. It’s safe in the workshop, but it’s out and about I’m worried about. The wheel clamps tend to impede things a bit. No one seems to offer a Bradley double block style coupling that will fit a beefy 67.5mm dia shaft with fixing holes at 92.5mm centres. @Timberwolf Official what can you suggest? I fully appreciate the Alko coupling is fitted with cost/weight in mind rather than performance. Chains are a pita out and about, although I have them in the workshop, amongst other things.
  6. The Yanks loved it as well.
  7. Aye, fair play to both clubs. Gritty stuff.
  8. Also that would have been before Josh was born!
  9. Brexit.
  10. It does look good fun.
  11. Trees just aren’t growing due to ‘uncertainty over Brexit’.
  12. I think a lot of it is due to experience on the species and time of pruning. After doing it for years, I can look back at different trees I've reduced and see how they have responded. Some look bad, some look really bad, and some are dead. You just can't get experience like that overnight.
  13. Thanks fellas, really appreciated. Literally the hardest decision I've ever had to make, albeit the right one. Took her for a last walk in the woods yesterday. Nice steady bongle around in the sunshine and bluebells, then cooked her bacon and eggs. I was cuddling her as she went to sleep, so was Ruth. I couldn't have wished for a better friend.
  14. RIP Dutchie. 21/05/07-02/05/19
  15. What happens if the replacement tree isn't 75mm dia or greater though? Would the conditions for the replant simply include that it would have to be?
  16. There is that Steve. I’ll be calling them today for a chat about how we proceed when I get a new machine. Apart from the crossed wires on the value of the chipper the service from Arborisk has been excellent.
  17. As above. Fatty.
  18. They haven't taken enough off, obviously. I would have given it a damn good crowning, and limbed it up a bit.
  19. Say what?
  20. Thanks Gareth. I'm due in on Wednesday to pick the machine up, hopefully they'll be in by then!
  21. Bartlett’s (Arborisk) are underwritten by Aviva, and they paid out quickly when my chipper was nicked recently. The problem was they paid out £7.5k, which is what I paid for it, rather than £13k, which is the cost of a new one, even though I was paying for a reinstatement (new for old) policy. Check the small print! Also good advice from monkeybusiness above re underinsurance.
  22. This is a non-issue mostly, and I tend to agree with Forestboy. We do loads of conny hedges with ash, elder and bramble sticking out - the whole lot gets levelled. There’s a really simple trick here - you talk about it when you’re quoting.
  23. Glad you got sorted mate. I went payment due on receipt of invoice years ago, and I make a point of mentioning that at quote stage. If they get funny then it’s always a sign. Giving domestic customers 14 days just gives them 14 days before they start messing. Most people are dead straight, they’ll tell me if they can’t afford the job because of holidays, new car or whatever, and we’ll arrange to do it when they can.
  24. Well I’ve beaten him to it anyway. To be fair Vesp, I would probably have left it as well....
  25. Aye Vesp, get some pics up. It’s the only way we can put this one to bed. Who knows, 99% of us might agree with you.
