  1. I think I’ve fallen in love with you Conor.
  2. Limited audience here mate. Although I detest ebay as they are the thieves and pikies friend, you’d get a lot more interest there.
  3. @Jamesedwards.jtr I hope you don’t think we’re simply having a pop at you. You asked for an honest opinion and you’re getting one! It’s how genuine, experienced arbs perceive the current state of affairs, and it’s certainly not limited specifically to Glendale.
  4. Seems a waste of a loader when a petrol engine like that costs under a grand.
  5. This is the crux of the matter for all the big companies. Until it changes, the shit show will continue.
  6. Totally get it mate. Keep the £250 boots for days when you need them. I’ve used these for a few years. Comfy, price is on point, and they have a toe cap. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grisport-Contractor-Safety-Boots-Brown/dp/B002IIED8C/ref=asc_df_B002IIED8C/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=208095731238&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10793167850120178983&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006483&hvtargid=pla-336751599340&psc=1
  7. I reckon about 95% of the jobs like this are carried out by people who haven’t priced them, and are just there to endure the misery! They are in my past, thankfully, not my future.
  8. You can’t carry on like that mate. You need to come up with a Plan B.
  9. As above really. I got a really good sports physio to help with mine (nowhere near as bad as yours), and have managed to get on top of it now with specific exercises and avoiding things that aggravated it. Like hedge cutting! Delegate! Good luck with it, sounds brutal.
  10. Tranny is 15 years Mick. Bought second hand from a dealer as an ex-demonstrator. It’s been brilliant, and has needed very little major work. DMF shat itself at 70k, swapped out for a solid and new clutch. 2 alternators. God knows what I’ll replace it with.
  11. Joking aside, how is a 2l lump going to compare with a 3.2 15 years down the line, doing exactly the same work? You’re a switched on bloke, I know it won’t be your problem. But it will be someone’s problem.
  12. Things could get better for me. I’ve just spat a mouthful of lager over the table in front of the outlaws!
  13. There’s f-all decent for £10k second hand, prices are mental. My 06 smiley would fetch that. I’m talking about brand new trucks. Dropping £40k on something that will have horrendous DEF issues that the manufacturer can’t fix. ECU’s, LEZ, AC, ABS, ICBM, TNT etc. Dropping in shitty little 1.9 lumps when they should be 3.0. The future isn’t bright.
  14. If we waited for every tree that had ‘bat potential’ to be surveyed in the summer, though, we would have a pretty lean winter! Most of the big trees we take down have issues. If there are no bats, we take them down. Before bird nesting! Some of the trees have limitless ‘bat potential’, but you can’t wait forever for the little buggers to move in, can you? Nothing would ever get done.
  15. They might well be Mick, but the longevity certainly isn’t.
  16. Just tell work you’ve got long covid and go. You can write a book about it called The Long Covid Way Down.
  17. I think the days of buying a new truck and running it for 10-15 years are gone. They all seem to have issues, same as pickups. Progress, eh?
  18. Doesn’t look like Armillaria either, although I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was present and the roots are shot. Chestnuts are pretty susceptible. Definitely one to rig small and go home, it’s pretty fubar’d.
  19. I wouldn’t negatively rig any of that, just bomb chogs onto a 1/2 full bulk bag of brash.
  20. Had one a few years mate. I was hoping we could wheel it into gardens to split metre sections into billets, but it’s such a pita to move onto the truck I’d probably get another hernia! I’m intending to take off two full weeks, then only pricing for two weeks after that. I’ll join the team again after that but only for driving and tipping duties. Two weeks of that, then ease back into it. Seeing the Consultant again in 8 weeks, so I’ll listen to him very carefully. He is a big advocate of keeping as mobile as I can without overdoing it.
  21. Aye, machine power is definitely the way forward for me. I’ve still got some lumps up the yard that I hand balled onto the truck years ago and I look at them in disbelief. It’s a wonder my guts didn’t fall out of my arse years ago. When I’m fully fit I’ll do my strength training with weights in a more controlled environment, and do more core and body weight gym stuff (my garage gym is pretty well equipped now). Weirdly I was hitting PB’s on the bench AFTER my hernias were diagnosed. 100kg x 4 and 80kg x 15 earlier this week.
  22. Good link Ben, cheers. Re your beech, could you just get a bat guy to climb and scope it and if no evidence is present then you’re good to go?
  23. Thanks Mick. Proper recovery is key, but ultimately I hope to be able to do more physically, not less, certainly in terms of climbing etc. I will definitely ease back on the handballing of heavy timber though, pretty sure that’s what wrecked me. Just about to order these.
  24. I’ve always fancied the bat gig at some point in the future, as MB says it would be another string to my increasingly achy bow.
  25. 😂 Funnily enough, no, but I’m thinking of using some on my shitty beard !
