  1. Jamie Try simulating a fall with the wirestrop/mainline set up described. It will do wonders for your confidence and will soon have you removing those pegs! Falling onto a peg will hurt much more than the slight rubbing you will get from the main stem.
  2. I am not sure as I have not used that particular device, neither do I use the method shown in the vid. But I would assume it is similar to any other figure eight device with a soft lock. I don't think you would need the fancy one to achieve the same result. Do you intend to "chog" with your mainline above your wire strop? I think you could bail just as quickly with it set up below and there is also less chance of cutting it!
  3. Ditto. But I tend to cinch up the mainline with a prussic/descender.
  4. Looks like a Petzl Pirana to me.
  5. I feel his pain! Was this in your garden? Or is it an internet find?
  6. Good job. I hope you get to see the finished product!
  7. Don't you wear an harness in the MEWP?
  8. Can you explain what you mean by "shake" being one of the reasons this tree failed please? It is not something I have heard of before.
  9. Interesting thread! I have never really practiced footlocking enough and have been thinking about getting some more practice in. But maybe I should avoid it if it is going to mess up my joints. I am no spring chicken!
  10. Nice brickwork! A tidy job all round in fact! Looking forward to the fence pictures.
  11. Can you recommend any suppliers Hodge? Links?
  12. Irn bru and lots of chocolate bars and crisps.
  13. Thanks for posting this. Do you have the attached pictures?
  14. Move the office?
  15. Great photos. Takes me back to the time I spent in Vancouver - seeing huge Douglas-fir only feet from peoples front doors. Its amazing the difference in attitude with regards to the proximity of trees to buildings (compared to over here). Perhaps they are more concerned about earthquakes? Got any pictures of the view from the top?
  16. Sorry it wasn't a criticism of your work, I just wondered if there was a good reason as I have seen you doing it in a few of your videos. I assumed you would be lowering the stump anyway so was just curious. I have watched several of your videos and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Keep them coming. By the way, may I ask what camera you use? (sorry if I am the umpteenth person to ask you this)
  17. Less waste? Younger than me then!
  18. But why cut them so high? Do you guys have bad backs?
  19. Wow! Thanks for posting I really enjoyed that! Hmmm...... If only I was a bit younger and had a larger pair of do da's.
  20. Nicely edited video (not too long!). Technique doesn't look too bad. Apart from those items mentioned above, I would recommend not leaving long stubs. Not a great problem when you are letting it all fall to the ground, but can become a right pain when lowering stuff. Trust in your spikes and safety strops...they do work....honest!
  21. It used to be Adnams Broadside or Theakston's Old Peculier but I haven't touched a drop for about 10 years now!
  22. I don't have any names for my kit. That is until something breaks and then quite a few names arise..... but none that can be repeated here!
