  1. Anywhere where there is thick grass and whins or where heather/whin burning gets out of control!
  2. We usually get this type of thing after prolonged dry spells and it usually involves large areas of grassland and whins.
  3. Sorry, no I didn't last anywhere near that long. Does it show lots of decay fungi and huge basal cavities?
  4. What disease did it have? Sawitus?
  5. I must admit I resent paying what feels like a lot of money for NPTC training and having to take time off work to do it. But when on the courses I find I invariably learn something new and also unlearn some bad habits I may have slipped into. I now have all the tickets necessary to cover me for felling/dismantling in any situation including MEWP and Chipper. I am glad I did them and do not have to do them again. NPTC tickets do not mean that you are qualified they just show that you have been able to demonstrate the desired level of competence/safety.
  6. Does it have a wrap around boiler?
  7. Thanks for reminding me! I must stop at the service station on the way home tonight and pick out a present for the wife.
  8. Not sure what you are saying here. Do you mean that if you progress through the CS units over time each course will act as 'refresher' training for those taken previously?
  9. My dog has one!
  10. Natanoko here. But then that's what I have always used from the silky range. I fancy the Yamabico though.
  11. No problem with using a rock climbing harness up a tree. In fact recreational tree climbers use them all the time. You will not get the full range of motion that a working harness with a sliding 'D' and side attachments gives you. Neither will you be able to pole climb with a flip line. But for just getting tree climbing practice in its perfectly OK.
  12. That's interesting. I it any good for plotting positions?
  13. Interesting App that Phil. What is the accuracy like? I have heard of problems (on this forum) with the accuracy of the compass in the iPhone.
  14. One a month! That's astonishing! I have done a couple of rescues (FOC) for the RSPCA but never get called out as frequently as you. You should add it to your business cards.
  15. Mine is signed off. But thanks for your concern. I have no issue with anyone tackling their own tree work. It happens every day. In fact, it is the people who have tried it and then realise how much work is involved that usually end up being my best clients!
  16. I have the same stove in my office. It's a great little stove with plenty of oompf! I too fitted a fexi-flue myself. Just borrowed a long ladder and dropped it down the lum from outside. The flue is suspended from a cowl that sits atop the original chimney. I also had a cone fitted to the end of the flue to stop it snagging on the way down. It took less than two hours to fit and get it running! Lang may yer lum reek Rupe.
  17. Did you know the guys making the cordage?
  18. It made for an interesting program. Its a shame they didn't mention where the produce was going.
  19. I think I saw a post on here saying that Steve was going to adopt his own home grown version specifically for Arbtalk. Not sure how far along with that process he has got yet, so it might be worth sending him a PM. Then again, what would I know, I still do not know what Tapatalk is!
  20. I seem to recall its a fuel/oil related issue to do with insurance and operator safety.
  21. and why use traditional methods for part of the works but finish the rest with chainsaws? I think this was probably titivation for television!
  22. Me neither. The right foot gubbins looks really uncomfortable, what with that karabiner choked against the top of your foot. What's the idea of the croll? Do you really need adjustment here? Wouldn't a fixed length foot loop or daisy chain be better here?
