  1. I guess the issue is that they hear about the £100-150 per day for working in Arb. So they then choose to go to college To get those numbers. Its a shock when they find out that they also need to be time served & have some real world experience to go with the college courses.
  2. Thats what I was thinking. Everyone seems to split their logs much larger than we do ours. I guess as we have a Rayburn & a small 5kw stove we split to suit them.
  3. I used to use my 250cc 2wd to pull a caravan chassis trailer full of about 1500kg of timber out of my wood through a boggy field & the mile back to base (off road). If you have enough weight on the drive wheels it will keep going. On the exit point of the woods it would be on its back wheel only as I put the power in. Other times I just used to load the front & rear racks with about 300kg (but no side slopes or you will tip). Again as long as the weight was mainly over the back wheels with just enough on the front to keep it down it would pull fine even in & out of our drainage ditches & boggy bits. At this point it would be best to tell you that I used to own a quad hire centre & used to live on them so could make a 2wd do what most would get a 4wd stuck in. As in most things the most important bit is the nut holding the controls. With a 400cc plus 4wd & a proper off road articulated axle trailer you could pull far more than the makers recommend. The limiting factor is the terrain (and driver), fit a winch & they are un stoppable.
  4. Yes it does have a right up but as both say One is fast cutting & one high performance (is that not the same thing?) One has a wider cc range than the other. Both have the same bar size range But it does not really say which to use when. Which is why I asked.
  5. They are now virtually the same & by 2012 will be the same.
  6. Should have requoted on teh spot. As a % how much extra is the £100 you want & his offer of £20? How many extra man hours did it take? Explain to him that the number of extra hours even at min wage would be more than the £20 he is offering.
  7. It means a person & not an entity or group.
  8. Some one left their shovel leaning on a spindly sapling a few years ago & forgot all about it. Fast forward to today & you have a shovel 60 foot up a tree.
  9. And heaping them up wont make them an m3 either.
  10. Will you be doing a deal with say 2 or more chains inc del? The del tend to kill online chains unless you buy a few at once. Whats the dif between micro chisel & super 20 chisel?
  11. http://www.discountchainsawschains.co.uk Dont work for me Ah I see it the thread title is spelt wrong. http://www.discountchainsawchains.co.uk does work
  12. Could also be due the the type of work the car is doing?
  13. Ah I get it now.
  14. These links might help ONE TWO
  15. I dont get that. Why use a pto driven hydraulic pump when the tractor has powerful (high pressure & flow) hydraulics already? I can only guess its if you have a set up that uses LOTS of hydraulic power for diff parts all at once.
  16. Charge him (lots) for the milling. He wont want the wood then.

    Todays Job

Prob less than 30% burnt in sections spaced out. Those pics are a small section of the 56 acres. Its not been done for about 10 years (previous owners for the most part & weather conditions for the last few years) so is well over due. Its an accepted standard management method.
  18. Your a bit out of date. So yes its still slightly worse than red (before it was much worse) but very soon will be the same.

    Todays Job

Todays job was not arb but it was outside all day in the fresh air (cough cough). I was helping a farmer friend to burn the heather & gorse on a 56 acre plot next to a Tillhill plot. The other edges were "safe" but we had to watch for it getting out of hand on the forest side. In the end it burnt slowly on that edge & then move away up the hill. It got quite cold & windy around lunch time but picked up after.
  22. The names Richard. We used to be the big white place on the main road but sold it year & a half ago. We are on the back road that runs from Mynedd Nefyn to Pentre Uchaf & the junction to Pistyll near Bo's yard. Like I said we will only be selling from the gate & what we dont sell we will use ourselves. I understand you would not want to give out your prices, It was silly of me to ask. I will also understand if you dont want to do this as its so close to home & on your patch. Your welcome to pop in if your in the area.
  23. I am a little nobody lol. (if you know Bo I am very close to his yard) Will speak to Ralph tomorrow. Wont be approaching any customers. Will all be sold via a sign on the gate. Plus dont want to do it cheap any way. What do you charge for wood round here retail (dont want to under cut you either) for 1/2m3 & 1m3 loads Wont need labourer as both me & my son would be here & I work my arse off. Level area is no probs just laid a track. As you know Ralphs lorry how long would it take to do a full load? Does it run on red? If so we have a bulk tank here so you could bring it full & leave with it full (or empty / empty lol).
  24. I just dont get that. They seem to have managed to get a few tractors in there with no problems & I bet they could have pulled a trailer each.
  25. Wyn I am just up the road from you near Mynedd Nefyn. Now I know it will take up to 12" (is the 8 foot the max length? I have a digger with a grab if weights the issue) I can speak to the local guy to see what he has got available for a sensible cost. I will call once I have spoke to Ralph about the logs.
