  1. The saw dust soon mounts up. Will have a dumpy bag full by the end of the job. Would have been loads more with a chainsaw cutting the wood.
  2. Been busy today. Had a good solid day with great outdoor working weather (not to hot or cold). Made an early start at 8 ish & the mist was still around & slight frost on the ground. Nice clean work site, dint stay like that for long lol Using a pallet & some 4x2 to hold the bags wide open with bungee cords. If you make one make it plenty bigger than the bags as mine is. Learnt that from previous jobs when the full bag was stuck fast in the frame. The small dumpy bags are full of stones not wood
  3. Ah I see do a scan every time you do a milling cut.
  4. How deep will they scan a tree?
  5. Ah it looks like a button. Should have used a wav file then every one will have a player built in.
  6. You might have it already on your pc.
  7. Nice. Do you really need the user to have or down load a quicktime plug in for a simple buy it now button? Could understand if it was also needed for on line video's ect. I like the "what page am I on now" thing.
  8. Mostly softwoods, but a tinny bit of hard wood. Not had a good look to try to identify it yet. Plus most of my wood recognition is with hard woods so it would be a guess as to what the softwood is. This is prob the best pic to see what they are.
  9. Just did some calcs using the picture & items in it & the real items & marks on the ground & the total volume of the load bay is 39.2m3 (2m high x 2.8m wide & 7m long). Less a bit for the gaps between each stack on the lorry & 30m3 seems a fair guestimate.
  10. Ok I dint mean 30m3 of "solid" wood. But that pile does measure 30m3 in the round on the floor. Which also matches up to the size of the lorry's load area which it filled to the brim. The wood is quite dry already & has been cut quite a while. Will be interesting to see just how many 1m3 vented bags (thats a real m3 bag not a builders bag) its fills when cut & split.
  11. Not sure if I should post this here as the timber was milled on a proper band saw mill (Jacko Forestor) but here goes any way. This friday I spent the day making a "bog" chair (no not that sort of Bog you lot at the back settle down). Its been made with some Oak from a tree I felled last summer & has been air drying since under cover & was then brought inside to dry some more on a rack in the warm air flow from the wood fired stove to speed it up as the chair was a rush job that I thought I had months to make & was actually needed for next week. The finish is an olive oil based one as its going to be inside. The chair was made for the school my youngest goes to. They have been having a school competition where they have split into groups (but not the same groups as the "houses" they are in). The Head asked me to make this chair to have a plaque put on for the winning group. It might be small (10" high ish) but took more time to make than a full sized chair as all my kit is set up for larger jobs so it was all done by hand & the mortice was to small to use the chain morticer so was cut with chisels.
  12. The 18 ton lorry "load" (not a weighed load just a full load) roughly measures 30m3 before cutting & splitting.
  13. I will tell you on Tuesday night LOL.
  14. What ever I have in the pile thats nice & dry. Not fussy me.
  15. I would say any wood is worth milling IF either you can sell it at a profit or you can use it yourself so you dont have to buy in some wood. There is a big range in between.
  16. So what will a new bar, a pair of chains & this device cost?
  17. Dont look good then if every one is out of it.
  18. Any chance of Stihl seeing this thread & offering its thoughts?
  19. Lets say I am willing to pay £110 but ask you what you want & you want £90. I am on a winner. Lets say I want to pay £90 but you want £110. You might still take the job but leave soon after for the extra £20 so I will have extra costs re advertising the job & the lost time. So employers ask what you want so they can win both ways. Plus for the right person they might up the wage to secure you, but they are not going to offer that wage in the advert so you might not apply.
  20. My last one was with Ottery as part of a "farm" insurance policy.
  21. I am looking for another load of WRC. Must be suitable for milling up. Min 10" tops (pref 12" or more on shorter bits) Max 6m Min 3m (but not all of it in 3m lengths as it puts the cost of milling up) Pref delivered but poss can get it collected if the price is right. Must be local ish to Pwllheli (if you dont know where that is you are to far away) Needed soon. Cheers
  22. Ha Ha try that at my local dealer & you get told I dont need to sell them any cheaper, as I am the only dealer for miles. I drove out of area & saved £70. Even if I lost the income for the travel time I would still have been better off. As it was I did it whilst taking the OH to the next town. Double bonus. Cheaper saw & brownie points.
  23. How much do that sell for?
  24. Cut what off exactly? LOL
  25. Thanks Rupe. That explains it.
