  1. If your having problems with the balance or weight you can remove the drum first. Most are only held on by a retaining clip.
  2. There is a new way to cut firewood check it out HERE (disclamer graphic images of injury) Do you think it will catch on?
  3. The last time I needed to buy strimmer cable the choices were very limited. Standard round or some square with ali powdered in it. Now there seems to be a plethora of plastic types, more profiles than you can shake a stick at (star, square, round, lumpy, twisty ect) & some made with an outer & inner core both made of different plastics with differing properties. So what do you all use? Cheap & cheerful & lots of it or better quality & it lasts longer? If it makes any difference it will be for mixed use, grass, weeds, brambles on rough ground & neat grass around mown lawn edges & trees / plants.
  4. Ah yes I forgot the O licence. There are prob other regs to follow too.
  5. You can you just have to use white diesel & make sure the tax / insurance is valid for that usage.
  6. Actually its already in force for professional drivers.
  7. Typical
  8. I have found a possible supply about 30 miles away but its roadside only as they only have a tractor based 7 tonne ish trailer. Any suggestions on local self drive logging lorry owners that could move a couple of loads? Also any idea what it should cost per tonne for the haulage?
  9. Hi All, I'm looking for some softwood cord (about 2 x 18 ton loads) delivered to near LL53 8EZ. Most must be under 10". Would also consider hardwood (or more than 2 loads) at the right price. Any offers or suggestions most welcome. Cheers
  10. You could get close to 25 on one of the largest IW flat bed trailers.
  11. If anyone is planning on doing something like this under the forestry PD rights then remember that you are only allowed a maximum of 10' internal height so loft bedrooms & high vaulted ceilings are out.
  12. You could add electro activated brakes.
  13. I doubt 25 tonnes would be enough to create the heat & pressure needed to release the lignins.
  14. I would check the pumps consumption Dean. We looked at them & you have to remember that its not just the consumption of the pump but the fact that it will keep the inverter on 24 7 rather than being able to use a low power mode when nothing else is on. The idle consumption of the inverter soon adds up. Our inverter cuts its output when the load is low enough yet restarts for the fridge or freezer (or a light turned on in the night) as needed. Our total electrical needs average at just under 3kWh per day (sub 2.5kWh in summer & just under 4kWh in winter). Using a pumped system was a non starter as it would add far to much to that. We dry compost the toilet waste & then the grey water is much easier to deal with.
  15. I use a G18 to do about 2 acres of camp site. As long as its not to long (IE been left far to long between cuts) and wet it works fine. It has the high tip & has had no problems with it.
  16. The actual permitted development regulations state that the operation does not have to be of a commercial nature so "hobby" forestry still gets the same rights as professional forestry.
  17. I am waiting to see the consultant to get the conduction tests done. I started with a trapped c6 / c7 nerve root that gave pain from finger tips all the way up to my neck. Was on so many pain killers I rattled, was also taking nerve meds. After nearly 3 months I am now off all the pain meds for about 4 weeks but still on the nerve meds. Just starting to wean off them now. I still have tingling in my thumb & index finger, no strength in the last section of the thumb & I cant bend the last joint on my index finger at all. Finger next to it is only partially functional. Grip in that hand is very weak & I have no dexterity or feed back when trying to pick things up like nails & screws. I too am planning on delaying the op if needed till late winter so I am quiet as I work for my self doing small contracts on camp sites mainly.
  18. Boiler juice is quoting 70.99p + VAT for 500L of Red
  19. Inside the fuel shut off is a spring that keeps the valve closed unless the current is flowing holding it open. So as long as the spring has enough spring left in it to close the valve even when upside down then the stop button & ignition off will work.
  20. At our last house we used to get the occasional flue fire (lined & insulated). Found out in the end that is was mainly a small air leak in the vitreous to flue closing plate that was causing an after burner effect. Any way the reason for the post is that I used to use the gas cylinder from my MIG welder to put it out a its an inert gas (Argon & co2 mix). Worked just like a co2 extinguisher.
  21. We had a bore hole drilled about 4 years ago. The drilling cost about £3.5k & then we did all the pump, plumbing, wiring, storage & filters for less than another £500. They wanted nearer £7k for a turn key install. They drilled to 50m but actually hit water at 27m but it was pressurised & lifted to 15m. Our pump is at 30m depth so we have plenty of reserve left. As part of the flushing we were pumping out constantly for 2 days at about 2.5m3 per hour. The level never dropped below 15m at any point so is a good strong supply that should not dry up. We now use about 1m3 per week for ourselves & during the summer another 1m3 per day for the cows in the next field when they are in it.
  22. I have that one on a 3750kg digger. Worth its weight in gold.
  23. ????? I am sure that is not allowed now.
  24. Yes its called Ibuprofen & costs less than a 1/3rd of the branded stuff.
  25. That is so so wrong. The hotter the water & the longer it is at that temp the more heat (so energy) can be lost. Look at it this way. Get a bucket (the water cylinder), put a hole in it (the heat loss). 1, Fill the bucket, take a cup full out in the morning (your morning usage), let the water drain out till its all gone, Then hours later when you need more water at night fill it up & take your cup full again. or 2, Fill the bucket, take a cup full out in the morning (your morning usage), open the tap so it runs at the same speed as the leak so the bucket stays full. Then when you need more water at night use your cup full again. How much water (energy) have you used? 1, 2 buckets full 2, 20 (ish) buckets full Your heater wont just turn on when water is used, it will keep turning on as heat is lost from the cylinder.
