    Death Row

A rise in the water table sounds like the most likely cause. I sometimes walk the dogs past them and since being a member here have taken a particular interest in them. If no one minds I was thinking of posting any other fungi I find on them into this thread.

    Death Row

Row of beech + sycamore and ash along a field margin with a ditch behind them. The first beech to the far left (not in view) is just a fractured hollow stump with possibly a Ganoderma bracket inside. It fell about 7 years ago. Unsure when the second (first in view to the left) died, ive not seen any fungi on this. The third seems to be dysfunctional up the right side, with significant thinning to the outermost parts of the remaining branches. So far ive seen three different fruiting bodies (see pics). The forth fell in Jan 07, which was alive and apparently healthy. Looked like something had weakened the roots. The fifth has this year started to show signs of crown dieback / thinning. Not seen any fruiting bodies on this yet. Ash + Sycamore seem unaffected so far. Before some one says those are high tension power lines behind them. Taken May 2nd Tree 3 May 2nd, 15' up main trunk. Taken on Jan 18th tree 3.
  9. Tatton Park August Bank Holiday 29th / 30th and 31st 2009 I think these are the dates. Good chance to meet/talk and watch the pro's, I think Tommy will be there, so will Tim Burgess, nice guy gave me advice on saw's, caving bars and chains.

  14. I was always told i was stupid in primary school (by the teachers:sad:) not a good school, was'nt until secondary school that i was told i was dyslexic. I know what i want to write, but getting it on to paper is imposable, backward letters, words the wrong way round very annoying also im not good at getting what i want to say across, its like my brain runs to fast. Posting stuff isnt easy. Like the drivelink blog David, a great resourse for all who want to learn.

    Aeroplane

Cool, have to go and have a look at that, nice find.
  20. Depends on if its a hard or soft wood cutting, probably the wrong time of year for hard wood, but the soft should strike if its kept warm and humid, like Dionysus says use a rooting powder. Lots of apple trees are grafted onto a different root stock, so a cutting may not have the vigour of the parent tree.
  21. How silly, wouldnt the money for the proposed fence be better spent on education. Just dont get it:confused1::confused1:
  22. Fair enough, sthil annoying tho:mad1:
