  2. Im going on sunday, went last year and had a great day. The speed caving is great for picking up tips on first cuts, and the noise is awesome Will post some pics from last year, in photo section

    Im just outside Maccelsfield, so not far at all. Carve off competition sounds good, im pritty busy till the end of sept, but after that should be good.

    Coat of oil and it’s done.
  8. How I carved a shell I’ve still got a lot of Larch lying about so used that. Did long diagonal cuts against the grain to get the rough top shape. Then did a series of gob cuts to form the lower portion. Refined cuts back to round off. Picked my point and cut the shell opening. I marked with pencil where the spiral should go, then did a shallow cut following the line. Then refined that back to round off the initial cut. After that I bored out the opening. High potential for kickback. Then I wedged it removed the base, finished the opening and gave it a quick blast with the grinder

  16. Liking the owl, could'nt say if it will re-shoot again, may look quite cool if regrowth was managed, a living carving.
