  1. yeah freds still one of my groundies, he never changes! think bens packed tree work in??? dont quote me on that though, heard he sold his chipper, and i know he's been at crc teaching welding and metalwork fulltime for getting on a year now. i'll probabally see his uncle tommorrow, so can ask if you like. hows you anyway mate?
  2. me about to sound dumb, but is the spider jack simmilar to deans thing? when my ropes eventually dry im gonna try the Armour pruss that marky bolam gave me and tie the VT shorter may help with the pantin
  3. well finally got a shot at using the pantin today to access a tree of heaven from the ground (survey in town, parked in multistory, too far to carry ladders!) prob a good 30-35ft assent. got a few Q's, how can i stop spinning round?! also, is it easier (diddnt have time to experiment) if i were to put a sling between the bridge, and HC, as i found the HC in the perfectly wrong place cool little gizmo though, can see it being used quite alot ropeguides ace!
  4. Ladders are great, they get you high enough off the ground, that youre spike marks arent visible:thumbup:

  6. looks mint from my limited milling experience, i wouldnt use anything smaller than an 880 for milling over 26"

  9. ??? what style/year ranger? about 5 years ago i used to drive an older style one, rear had a LSD as standard (beam axle) which is as good as diff lock imo, if not better as less chance to break anything. and when you engaged 4wd, drive went to the front wheels which were independant suspension, can you diff lock ind suspension? anyway so in effect you had 3wd minimum. . . i think. twas a looong time ago diff locks and winches??? buy a landy and be done with it!
  10. just back from our 1st xmas tree recycling day of the year, raised £255 for the little school where we were based estimate around 70 trees chipped, also had a local wheelie bin cleaner washing bins for free too for some reason, and a show in the school with private energy efficency firms, and the local councils energy group people dishing out free lightbulbs, energy moniters ect only got one pic of the day

  17. first bigish job of the year, kicks off with a bacon and egg bagguette to die for and cuppa tea from a roadside van get to job in grounds of ely cathedral by half 8ish, crisp winters morning, 2 nice big chestnuts i surveyed a while back, old pollards, big regrowth stems, clear underneath, spikety spike, crash bash, repeat . . a helmet cam would have been ace for felling the tops out farmer/pub owner comes along, wants all the big wood comes back with teleporter and big grain trailer, pays us a bit of £££ another bloke turns up, pays us more £££ for smaller bits nock the first ones brush off and down the tree at 10 am break time precisley, go get a huge breakfast bap and cuppa tea from cafe, finish docky, up the next one whilst lads are chipping the first still, spikety spike crash bash repeat done in half hour, cuppa tea, back up the first to get lump wood down, the cathedrals 6th form school dinner ladys take pity on us outside, ask if we want some hot food... silly woman OF COURSE!!! 3 course posh school meal and more tea back to work and local paper turns up takes loads of pics, story of high profile trees in next weeks paper. load the first ones cord straight into farmers trailer, fell the stem, more pics taken, pose a bit load hiab up, go to farmers tip wood, new tip site always good home check emails, won a tenner on lotto some pics starting from initial inspection to felled first stem 3rd to last pic, stem still standing, the saw propped up against stem is a 660 with 30" bar for refrence bact tommorow to fell remaining stem, shift wood and grind roots out. . . with another 3 course dinner with the 6th form girls, ho hum

MS660 is a brilliant saw. i run a 30"bar most of the time no probs, never had a problem with it, tbh wouldnt consider a different saw, light enough to use in the tree for long stints, plenty of power faultless. only thing i would like is new style fuel/oil caps but thats only for looks! King of saws!
