  1. saw a 6x6 tipper landrover with a meaty looking hiab between cab and buck yesterday, looks ace, prob isnt tho! under or over 3.5t?
  2. to be honest i dont know either mate, are you looking at making money milling? if so you could mill peoples wood onsite, costing to the hour+an hour? or are you looking at pre milling a load of species and sizes, storing/seasoning them ready to sell? if so i reckon you really need to know your market And have a reputation like tommer9 and rob d or milling stuff to make garden furniture out of? if so, any would do i reckon! just price accordingly-oak, yew, holly=many£ other more common woods-maple (sycamore!), pines, ash ect=less£ for same items thatd be my opinions based on nothing!
  3. have you thought of asking local bespoke furnature makers what they require? sold some yew to a cabinet maker, he wanted it 2" thick, he will season it, then cut down/plane to size he needs
  4. i have a rule to give them the boot early febuary, mid december, or a week before their bday my cash is MINE
  5. that 14 foot gap fell is spot on!
  6. stevie, lets not forget who told me i wouldnt eat the mega brekkie, and who ate the mega brekkie
  7. dunno pete, was down in letchworth:001_tt2: there was a hinge a whopping short but thick hinge to the right, and a long and thin one to the left. . . it worked
  8. haha, that may be a good idea! cheers Liam
  9. Lets see youre Stunt fell pics:thumbup: basically a stunt fell is where you prob should have climbed and dismantled, but felled anyway for the hell of it-in the words of mr hill, saving time isnt a crime heres todays/this mornings job, can prob qualify as a stunt fell. poplar, back leaner leaning over road, car park-dont dent, bt line running inline with fell on left, and sign to miss on right. i aimed to get close to the sign, as would rather wipe the sign out that the wire! gob perfect! stump ground out loaded brekkie now lets see yours!
  10. no, you need a stump grinder
  11. i agree with huck, IMO on big diameters, a deeper set hinge assists felling as center of gravity, although in the same place, the COG is nearer the hinge, therefore requires less wedging to move the COG past the hinge, into the gob, and down she goes
  12. its so simple mate, just have a think, then play!

    crash

i gave my groundie a right "telling off" a couple of years ago when driving in our lorry, with 3 strong blokes in, 2 first aid kits, fire exingushers, ropes, mobile phones ect, he point blank refused to stop when we saw a car in a ditch, people inside, upside down, and just 1 person helping he was and still is an idiot to put it mildly well done for stopping dave, sounds like a start to a joke-'a policeman, paramedic and fire fighter are in volved in a crash . . . '
  14. Rob D is a member on here who is one of the, if not the only uk supplier of alaskan mills and pieces, really nice chap, if you look on the alaskan mill sub forum i posted earlier on in this thread, you'll see his posts with a link to his alaskan mill website. go on, buy buy buy
  15. i say go for a 36 inch as most people have a 36inch bar/have use for a 36'er other than milling, and you can use a small bar on a big mill, but not a big bar on a small mill! you also dont get the 'bar drop' when using a big bar on an alaskan, unlike the logosol. and the alaskans much cheaper! so much so that you could also get the mini mill-to square up the edges of a plank if youre realy fussy, and still have change! if you get a really big bar, you just need to buy longer rails. you wont regret it, theyre great fun
  16. heres youre answer Hi All, I am Martin Lucas and run the sales and marketing at GreenMech. I have been with the company for just over 2 years and tend to visit Arbtalk to see your comments. Re: The Yellow machines- To put your mind at rest, we make all our machines on site at our factory in Alcester and colour is not a problem. We are a Cat Allied Vendor Supplier and the Yellow and Black units go out to Cat Rental dealers in Europe. You can have any colour you want if you let us know. PS. The Powder Coating and Primer we use has just passed the 1000 hour salt spay test as used in the motor industry. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members-only/2229-welcome-forum-you-86.html#post248735

  18. Nah, 50% hinge, bore through leaving a 10% ear eitherside, back cut leaving sub 5% hinge, down she goes
  19. Hi ed, hubert said you started on youre own, going well? 341 with small 16/18" bar will be fine
  20. good job john, how long in the end? is that the one which is being felled in a year? (or was that someone else!)
  21. spikes??? dont know what you mean, strapped to my feet were the new 'ecoligical niche habitat creation systems' dont worry, i left atleast a dozen buds up there for regrowth (its important to leave growth points on mature beech)
  22. only a little reduction, diddnt want to take too much off the upper crown incase it harmed the tree
