  1. I bet! “big” chippers make the job so much easier
  2. I do hope you shifted that log out with a machine and not hand balled it out!
  3. How much did you want for that chipper again?! 😆
  4. New builds arent that cheap, location plays the biggest part in prices. Within an hour of a major city/financial bubble prices are "high" (but not UK high!) Renovation costs, the tax agency pays 30-50% of the labour costs up to roughly 8k/person/year. Green energy, 50% of labour and material upto 5k per person/year Jonathan being a newcommer might needs to live here and pay tax before taxing advantages of the above though, not sure but might need a years tax paying before he's eligible?
  5. To sell now, if you don't need the van or something similar is a good move i reckon. Manufactures must soon be able to fix their Covid supply issues
  6. Yep! Luckily that’s where my partners summer house is, and where she’s from. Shame it’s all under snow 6months a year, still beautiful but work possibilities aren’t that great
  7. Where’s that @Matthew Storrs? here’s some of the places I’ve been swimming at recently, a fair bit north of you Jonathan
  8. Hi @lux, Did everything go as planned with Först? How are you liking the 55hp TR8?
  9. A mate brought one of these, 10k Euro. he’s happy with it, fits on the back of his double cab pickup, he then tows a 6m3 tipping trailer i’ve used it once but nothing to compare it too
  10. How much would you earn with a manager in charge per month/year How long would it take to earn, under the manager’s management of the company, what your kit is worth 2nd hand? do you plan on returning to the uk? unfortunately IMO the goodwill gesture on top of the kits value is canceled out by the self employed staff. If they want, they can leave without notice, their replacements perhaps not as effective or knowledgeable of your pricing/work methods could lead the work booked in as a loss maker. plus the little issue that they should really be on the books could be a very expensive journey for the new owner…
  11. Its overpriced and shite, look for something else. Tbh, unless you've already got a chipper and only do small pruning id look for a more efficient setup/vehicle.
  12. Yep die backs here too, advice is to pollard. Shame as Ash is red listed too yep, value for money pruning joe!
  13. Pruned an ash today 2 up, 2 rigging systems, myself and the logbullet on the ground
  14. Fitted a new grinding wheel to the bandit, the old one had elongated a few of its pocket thread holes making tightening the pockets an arse -the rocks here give the grinder a hard life. took the opportunity whilst the backing plate was off to fit the updated belt tensioner and beef up the backing plate mount too. Just a full service to do now
  15. Agreed Day rate would mean paying for the 4 days Mark, asking for day price, multiplying it by the estimated time - 3 days, and locking the price is now a fixed price.
  16. Why’s the whole day written off? surely getting it stuck and realizing it was stuck wasn’t more than an hour, could they not have done something on rope and harness? should still be 6-7 invoiceable hours. Machine recovery is unfortunately your problem
  17. What about from another EU country? Should just be a case of new plates should it not?
  18. Agree with you there, Pricing from pictures is when Estimates are given rather than Quotes, make it clear that you can’t be 100% accurate from pictures. sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised, other times the customer is quite understanding if you inform them before cutting that the price was off. ive been very lucky so far for major cock ups, my skin has been saved by alternative ways of working or getting big kit in which worked out surprisingly cheap- an oak to monolith over new sewage system, garage, fence and lamp I’d priced for a day for 2, 1 load, would have been 2 days for 3 and 3 loads, canceled, rebooked and got a grip saw in, done in 3 hours, the lorrys 30m3 bin filled (I was mincing everything down with a saw!) and made a profit. felled 40 odd aspens, don’t know what I was thinking waste wise, priced for 60m3, well over 150m3. Managed to get a biomas chipper in and tipp at a mates farm, broke even.
  19. The little one with a new engine probably getting on for 3,5-4k, the 2150 10k? +vat A 2150 4x4 with 38hp petrol was for sale for 9k +vat recently in denmark, not sure of hours but looked clean What have you been offered trade in?
  20. Not mine, far from it, but I know there’s some RB fans here
  21. Are you needing help on what vehicle to get? or what tipper manufacture? or just the chipbox layout/style? Easiest and cheapest is to buy a vehicle with a tipper fitted, high sides are easy enough for most fabricators to knock up as too the toolbox.
  22. More logbullet work, felled about 25 dead spruce, 5 pines, stems out front, branches in a bonfire heap. amazingly little damage to the ground considering it was wet yesterday
