  1. Thanks, Ive spoken to Big J a little too, i rent in my mate with his alstor 3 days a month on average, sometimes a Kranman bison, and have changed my approach to jobs because of these machines, now he's selling id ideally like a 2nd hand logbullet, but they're not exactly easy to come by, got a quote from Pekka, just need to make a decision! Whats the trailer in your first picture on this thread? looks ideal
  2. Jensen Schliesing JBM Probably a load more too
  3. Great to hear! Has any of the breakages been "warranty" issues? if so, how have they been resolved? do you foot the labour cost yourself? I can imagine you are pretty slick on it by now, a mate has an Alstor (that he's selling hence my interest in Logbullets now) when he first got it it was painfull to see him drive! What size trailer do you have?
  4. Hows things going Mike? Any problems with the machine? Shortcomings? Any extras you could do without or wish you had?
  5. Most likely due to Först! the Först company - as i understood was created after Redwood, who were the sole importers of Jensen, got the hump when Jensen opened up their UK market to other dealers. Redwoods son(?) set up his own chipper make, Först. Hence their stark resembelance to Jensen machines Its a real shame you've had so many problems, i was looking forward to an off the shelf, decent hp, 8" machine.
  6. The electrical issues are 100% not ok. the cracked paint/weld is worrying the loose bolts are annoying niggles. Shouldn’t need to be regularly be retightening them though. Was going to say the paint isn’t worth worrying about but looking again, it’s not ok I’d have been at my wits end if I was you, downtime can really hurt small businesses out of interest, how much was it?
  7. How long’d that take you Stevie? How much arisings were there and did you need to import any soil in to fill the hole in or could you spread out what was there?
  8. Ive always had Petzl Vertex and always clipped the chinstrap up in the internal webbing in the helmet, out of the way. The new ones, with the detachable chinstrap are great! One earmuff down is enough to Keep the lid on. I always find the strap (on other helmets too) prevents the earmuff sealing adequately, and i would quite like to preserve my hearing!
  9. We got snow! hope everyone’s had a great day!
  10. Thanks . . . . i think Anyone wanting to start a serious business should have a clear buisness plan (even if its just in their head) The work they want to do, the customers they want to attract, the niche they want to take advantage of You're not going to be competetive, or efficient against 99.9% of tree jobs with the 13/75, but perhaps thats your niche? Then again, that niche of yours, as youve stated, doesnt have a continuious flow of work, perhaps not the best niche after all? The wee chipper could be perfect for someone unable to get loans/pay for bigger kit, to get their foot on the first rung of a very long ladder. But i struggle to understand why yourself with your buisness acumen is persistent with starting at the very bottom? (im not trying to have a dig, although its difficult to convey via text without sounding so, i see you as new to the industry, yet apparantly a superb buisnessman, persistently raving about stuff that isnt all that great, perhaps im just trying to educate you?! )
  11. Ok, Hypothetically, A wee chipper, might earn you an extra £50 a day, you don’t really do much, more garden tidy upper work. chip stays onsite, on the floor I’m guessing the wee chipper pays for itself in 80 days (Your current price of the 13/75, as ill use the new price of the GM, assuming the 4k is inc VAT?) The “proper” chipper, you can charge £100 a day for (not including what you could charge for removal of arisings, or plowing through jobs doing more in a day) The proper chipper pays for itself in 170 days, takes more than twice as long to pay for itself (oh no!) you keep both machines for 5 years 220 working days a year Wee chipper earns you 51k over 5 years after its paid for itself Proper chipper earns you 93K over 5 years after its paid for itself. I very much doubt the wee chipper would last 5 years hard use, the GM i would hope it does. The proper chipper should allow your buisness to grow, for most arbs, the chipper is the bottle neck in the day "its a no brainer really FWIW"
  12. 3,6k for a machine with the features of a 13/75 is bloody expensive IMO. Give the industry a few years and you’ll look back and understand 17k inc vat for that new greenmech is pretty good value. Over here that’d easily be be 22-24k plus 25% vat. hope it serves you well
  13. Good luck Jonathan! Whats the value of the Logbullet nearly 2-3 years on?
  14. May not cause the engine any issues, but as i understand, the pulley ratios have been changed, and rest of the chipper redesigned to compensate for the lower power. Upping the power, and the revs, the rest of the machine will take more of a battering? Be like dumping a 50hp motor in a 35hp machine, im sure it'd work great . . . for a while!
  15. Someone’s got to set the standard
  16. Don’t they just drop the chip on the floor though?
  17. 6 hours if you include the “few hours getting the van ready” plus time to look at the job? plus admin time? plus email dialogue time? don’t forget the unpaid hours. Include those in the 180quid and suddenly the hourly rate isn’t that great. listen to the pros giving you advice in this derailed thread, i.e Mick, John and Rich anyway, what did the OP think about the 165?
  18. Apparently the woodland is predominantly Ash, most of which is infected. The foresters are just concentrating on the stuff near the paths from a safety aspect. The guys an idiot. Unfortunately Idiots with stupid views are not afraid to have the loudest opinion. If they had'nt done anything, he'd just be moaning about the trees falling over/dangerous unmanaged woodland. Cant win!
  19. Have you read the first post? lifts 2 wedges high. Theres no magic involved, so its not miraculously going to tip over something that requires more. What it does do, is tip trees over that need 2 wedges (maybe 3-4 if theres space in the backcut for a reposition) and it does that very well, much more civilised, easier and safer than whacking wedges in
  20. Anyone else got opinions on the Echo 501? Im looking for a 261 replacement, been impressed with the little echo 2511 so wondering if the Echo would cut it against the stihl, or would i be dissapointed? The Echo promo video is one of the worst i've seen!
  21. Yep still going strong! Well the casting inside did crack, the factory wanted it for inspection rather than send parts out and fixed it free of charge which I wasn’t expecting, great service! it’s a valued tool in the truck, by the time @Kriss has lugged his tirfor and wire out the truck never mind the anchor, rope, throw line, or untangling the throw line or the hundred push n pulls of the tirfor lever, the tree’d be on the deck with the wedge
  22. Looks Good! Should definitely be sellable imo
  23. Yep! Ask and they will build! Well, they did for me Local dealer praises them highly for special builds. Certain dealers will do a "computer says no" auto answer, but Jensen themselves seem to pride themselves on custom builds. The new range does look under powered on paper, especially compared to the competition
