  1. For those working as part of a gang then they are all at risk from each other and they are (possibly) making profit for an absent boss so nothing changes their really, but yes Dave maybe no need for LOLER and rescue if your working on your own, but there isnt any need for nay of that now anyway. No one gets loler done for any other reason than to gain contracts or as part of insurance requirements, and if your ( a person) working on their own then you not going to worry about insurance and theres no law about that already so no change there.
  2. Dean, thats the first bit I noted too. Also, many self employed arbs are actually under guidance from an employer of sorts so employment law still governs. If it allows more people (SE) to work on their own in back gardens away from the public then fair enough, but no ones actively stopping anyone doing that at the moment so no real change.
  3. Yes, but with your Certs you won't actually get a job. Unless you have a job offer in writing (i.e an employment contract) then the Certs won't actually guarantee you a job. If you mean self employed tree work then need to know how to do tree work and they won't teach you that on an NPTC course.
  4. None of those Certs will automatically bring you any work. You need someone offering you work first really, and clearing up debris will pay the same (if not more) than you'll earn as a climber. So if there's lots of work opportunities for a groundworker in your area then the extra Certs might be a good investment for the future but on their own, in the short term, they won't earn you anything. Remember they are safety Certs, not tree surgery training. Same as with irata stuff, they don't teach you how to do the actuall job once got up (or down) whatever it is your working on.
  5. Good luck, didnt mean to be negative, its just everyone wants a climbing job and its really not going to happen, knowing how to run a jobsite first is far more important and climbing is a minor part of that IMO. Dragging brash yes, but also setting up a maintaining a safe worksite while the climber does his thing, its all about team work. Try and look beyond climbing for now.
  6. Well some adverts for it on FB etc say Friday 24th but I hear that the climbing is on the Sunday and Monday. So the prelim rounds will be Sunday and masters on Monday. Lots to see on Sunday but all a bit dull except the work climb Then the Monday will be slower but the best climbers in the masters is always worth a watch, bring a deck chair and drinks! I hope to be climbing on the Sunday but might have to leave straight after so won't be there on the Monday. If it had started on Saturday then I would have been there for both.
  7. Good ad, well written, but you wont get climbing work yet. Your HGV skills/license is proabably your best asset, and many people need extra workers so your certs help you fill a role where you might need to pick up a saw once or twice a day and maybe be the (on paper only) on site rescuer. But climbing as a job is a way off yet. Good luck though.
  8. Paul, its being held at a game fair!! You'll not know what to look at first!!!
  9. we’re the only female guests amongst a large party of British tree surgeons poor girls!

    A new hybrid

Friction rope will self tend!! Not as well as the zz did maybe. And I dont think this will pass loler, depends on the inpsector but I would guess anyone using this (or the original zz) is not going to worry about loler. A none modified ZZ cannot pass loler now as its been re-called, so I would think the same applies here, even though the bit being used was not the part that caused the re-call.

    Chiropractor?

Ive used loads over the years for the odd ache and pain here and there, including a locked up back due to lifting something silly (like mentioned earlier here) but when I had slipped disc I kind of realised how usuless they all are really. When doctors say, take some ibruprofen and go away thats because its acutally all thats needed in many cases. Chiros/osteos offer sypmathy/empathy and a half hour of their time to listen to our woes. Thats what we pay for really, a bit of a massage is always going to be nice. I have not been to one for a few years now and have had no back problems at all. As mentioned earlier all you will get is another appointment. In fact I gaurantee you that no one will say your fine after one appointment. But you make your choice and it does feel nice to have some understand your discomfort in a way that doctors dont have time to do. Ibuprofen is a very harmless and cheap (59p a packet) product that can be very helpful, it should not be thought of as "drugs". Avoid Neurofen products unless you like buying things with a 600% profit mark up!! And if things get bad then theres always Tramadol, now that is Drugs!
  12. TBF its not really a "brilliant" idea!! Wardrobes have been around for a while. Its well made though! And you dont need to get some air vents and fit them, just cut/drill some holes?
  13. My sister and family came to stay saturday night. Her husband brought his bike and came with me on my sunday bike session with the traithlon club. He was the second fastest there over the 25 mile route (not long by any standards) and then after lunch he cycled back to Bristol!!
  14. Do you have a smartphone thingy? Endomondo pro os £2.99 well worth it!! There is a free version but like all free apps it will contain adverts and kill your battery. Endomondo is the easiest to use IMO, but strava is also very good, but again strava kills phone batteries.
  15. Thanks guys! Did some biking, some bbq ing and some beer drinking. Glad its a bank holiday today!
  16. I posted before I read this. If that's true about the 1 1/2 centres then they might fit. Bolts are not an issue as I have all the bolts.
  17. I really don't know. The pockets bolt on through two hole in the cutter wheel. What are the chances that your holes are the correct distance apart and the correct distance from the edge of the wheel? Slim I would say!! I'll measure it of you want? Super teeth Definatly better than finger teeth.
  18. I Have a bag of used vermeer super teeth sitting around getting in the way. I think there is at least two sets of teeth plus a few extras and all the pockets and bolts etc. Would cost a bit to post due to the weight but it can be done. Happy to split them. So if anyone needs a few teeth, or one set, or set of pockets and bolts (rather not split them, the whole set is probably more useful) then please let me know. The teeth are all well used and have been sharpened a few times but could be sharpened again. If not I'll weigh them all in one day, if I get round to it.
  19. Hummous is good. I eat tons so not enough hours in the day to make enough of the homemade stuff but its great when I do make it. Rye bread and ryvita are much longer lasting carbs than bread etc. so they are good. I have four eggs and rye bread for breakfast, tuna salad and humous and ryvita during the day and bananas etc. Avoid sugary things as they give you sugar lows. Your meusli might have more sugar in it than you think!
  20. Although you shouldnt really be attached by just one ascender, they are an item that should be backed up.
  21. Oh, ok, my mistake. I was sure I read somewhere that claims needed to be supported by paye evidence or some such.
  22. Im doing a 40mile BHF ride in may from cheltenham racecourse. Not getting sponsered though as its like only a 40 mile bike ride!
  23. Yes, no legal requirement to have it but if the council give you hoops you choose if you want to jump through them or not.
  24. Rubbish!!! Thats not a back up sling, its ( as the doc says) to stop him losing the ascender. The ascender is only there to hold the pulley in order to give the 4;1 advantage, no other purpose and definatly not a back up. and if it were theres no reason that a knotted sling will fail (depending on the rating of the sling of course) . The ID is actually one of the safest devices out there, more so than a gri gri, so it doesnt need a back up.
  25. Yellow jackets are just vermeers name for green teeth. Green teeth are multi tipped teeth that bolt in to their holders. They can be rotated easily and are very easy to replace. The old style ones were a fairly big task to replace, 3/4 inch socket with extension lever and scaffold bar on the end to loosen the holders and then a minster torque wrench to get them tight again. (different models vary of course) I'm all good thanks mark. Lots of decent work coming in after what's been quite a hard winter. Hole you've made a full recovery.
