  1. Not a great plan! Klemhiest on a single line is not good. Footlocking on a single line is not good either unless you are very strong in the hands and can grip a single rope. The tying off at the base of the tree is fine though, thats how SRT works, so there are lots of SRT methods you could use up that single line, but if your hooked on footlocking (and only have gear for that) then simply pull a doubled line up with the first non isolated line that you are tying off at the base. That way you have a double line hanging in isolation in the tree without having to isolate the throwline which can be tricky in Limes as you know very well! Needs 2 ropes though. Also, if your footlock line is long enough, just pull one end about 10-12 feet through the top anchor point (enough rope to tie off at the base) then get the other end of youy line and tie to the bottom end of the bit thats hanging in the tree, then continue to pull the line through down to the base and tie it off. You now have double rope hanging in the tree with a single section of same rope coming down to the base and tied off.
  2. Thats quite poor!! But tacks have even been known of in the tour de france and other races where you would expect the bikes to be very welcome. The wiggle events are rarely fund raisers though. They are sportive style events that attract many different kinds of riders. I have only done wiggle mayhem (24hr team relay race) but they also do road rides etc and attract so many riders that they are probaby victims of their own success. Its not very subtle have 1000's of bikes in one place, and if they are mountian bikes then they are usually quite a load bunch of people. But its all sport and this country is slowly getting there and appreciating sport more, so its sad when you here things like this. I did a 50km ride with 1200 others weekend before last and had no problems, but the polic had to close the roads at the start to let all 1200 of us set off at once and I'm sure there were some angry drivers who were delayed on their sunday trip to B&Q.
  3. Probably the best of all cypress trees. Give it 2-3 yrs though.
  4. Oh, I doubt they want much for it, they just want it gone really but I know they had agreed a price twice before and then not got it. I'll ask.
  5. Well its near cheltenham. Will find out more later in the week, probably wednesday.
  6. I have a customer with a large trunk of walnut for sale. DO you want me to make enquiries as to how much etc? I know they had two people who wanted it but neither of them actually paid up so its still sitting there. Easy access for a large vehicle, but it is large, probably 4000kgs ish. I'll be over that way later in the week so I can get photos. It blew down early last year by the way.
  7. I think that would suffice. Then it really would be the users problem.
  8. No. No one actually completed the deal. So it went on eBay.
  9. Never a better time to buy a spiderjack !!! If only someone was selling one on e bay! ART Spiderjack 2. | eBay
  10. Damn straight! I think maybe a whole department!! This could be Petzl worst hour, we'll see!!
  11. No, otherwise they would have to come and do up our karabiners etc. for us. As long as they supply something it will be ok. I agree, it probably will just be rubbers. I have been using rubbers on the harness attachment krab cos that was always sliding sideways, will be happy to use them on the top one too if thats what they come up with, but its a bit lame IMO. Not using it at all for now. Re: Hitchclimber. Same could go for all other petzl products aswell. Handled ascenders for a start? In all literature though it does so no cross loading krabs, (usually because the strength of the krab is reduced) so we kind of all know that we mustnt cross load stuff, although the poor guy being taught has found out the hardway, so this could be called operator error, but 4kn is woefull!!!!!! A cross loaded biner with the gate open is stronger than that! But even then, you still have to create 4kn. So there are a lot of things that have to go wrong all at once to break the ZZ. Just amazing that it happened so soon.
  12. I can see a new karabiner being designed especially for the ZZ ! Thats the only way I can see them getting out of this unscathed, a new captive eye type karabiner, free to everyone who bought a ZZ, and included in the sale of ZZ's from now on.
  13. Have you any experience of climbing or just the NPTC course? Where in Gloucs are you?
  14. I'm sure you know someone who has plenty! At this time of year especially!!
  15. or get some sheeps testicle removing bands paul. they do the same job.
  16. I cant see if it has lower D's? Which D's are you talking about? I meant like on a treemotion you can have you lanyard in the lower D's and sit in it same as if your on a mainline. The use side D's for spiking.
  17. Sure, you might consider reitiring the kit after the rescue because you had used it beyond its SWL but it would still be far enough away from MBS to carry out the rescue. This goes for all kit. And same for rigging too, if you push the limits and go over SWL you will surely get away with it but the kit might have to be retired early. Its called cycles to failure, where going over the SWL can recuce the MBS over time causing eventual failure below MBS. As a one off though, just get on rescue the person!
  18. The 2.1 version (with velcro wrap) is abotu £150. Second hand stuff is worth whatever someone will pay for it really. I think its a bargain at 70, I nearly sold it for 80 but two interested parties didnt get back to me, so its on ebay, with 13 watchers so far!
  19. Even more of a bargain at the current bid price of only £70.00
  20. Can you attach to any lower D's like a treemotion? Cant see in the pics.
  21. If its true Petzl will act very fast I'm sure. By the same logic if its false they will act very fast aswell!
  22. Sounds expensive, but if its good to go for work as you want it then its ok ish. Just check if its 70 or 90hp. Should say on the front of the engine block. 70's are slow, 90's not so bad, resonable quick in fact when empty. Mine was a 52 plate with 33K miles 4 years ago £2600, but it was a flat bed and I had to put rollershutter box and tipper onto it. But its still going strong.
  23. I run 18" on an old 044, it loves it!
